@@MarinaAndTheDevil i thinks its often too dark so when someone has a scene in a dark room on some screen you cant even see them - like youtube videos of emily in colonies - too dark
For the most part, homes and some other places in Gilead are constructed/renovated in the way they were in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries before electricity. It’s part of the “return to traditional values” the radical country is trying to achieve. One of the first things I noticed when I first began watching the series was how mostly everything seemed to be like something out of times long gone by. I was and continue to be in awe at how a developed modern society like the former United States was could be reverted physically (forget about ideologically, socially, and politically for a second) back to its colonial era-like state.
@@rominn2184 except the hospitals of course. They do home births but still rely on advanced medical technology just in case…since fertile women is Gilead’s main economic resource.
@@colonelgeorgiospapadopoulos ^ Yes and no. In keeping with Gilead’s corruption and oppression, they very much cherry pick what modern amenities and things they decide to keep. Yes, they want the Handmaids at least, resembling something out of Puritan New England. But the trucks they get taken away in when they’re deemed to have committed a crime are very modern indeed.
The story behind the song is what makes it so perfect. It’s about a girl who snaps and shoots up a school across the street from her house. When they asked why she did it, she said “I don’t like Mondays”
A tragic end to a beautiful house that was probably built to house a happy family, 150+ years ago. Fitting Serena would burn it. What she desires, she destroys.
Completely incorrect interpretation based on the character’s depiction in the series. Screw the building...it was the scene of so much physical, mental and sexual violence. Sometimes, certain land can’t be redeemed.
@@MiniM69 welp, episode 6 showed her true colors. Although tbh Serena's development is really unstable, she does one thing right and then two things very wrong.
You hit me once I hit you back you gave a kick I gave I a slapped you smashed a plate over my head and I set fire to our bed and that what I did- Serena Joy
Lynne Musso I love her too! I feel like she is the most interesting character in the series! And she is the most complicated character to understand but that is why I love her.
SHE DID THAT. SERENA JOY WENT OFF. I fucking love the symbolism of this scene too. It shows Serena setting ablaze the very object of Fred's patriarchal domination over them (and that of Gilead's); June and Serena's unity; and the rebirth of Serena Joy.
anyone know what the music in the beginning was? it's probably in the handmaid's tale playlist but idk what the song is called. it's such an emotional song
Commander Waterford would have known she was heading there first, its implied by that point nick and serena had figured she was gone with nicole..but fred knew she wasnt going to leave without Hannah.
so basically the other two thought it was safe to report the kidnapping by that point not realizing that June was still in town just now getting over to hannahs location
The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire We don't need no water let the motherfucker burn Burn motherfucker burn
The house groaning and shaking was such a beautiful shot.
Handmaids tale has some of the most beautiful visuals I’ve ever seen
The cinematography and color scheme is so memorable compared to other shows

I think it says a lot that the fire started on the bed
Retrosteampunker You mean it was started on the bed. This was intentional!
@@MiniM69 yeah that was their point, kid
Serena snapped and I’m living for it
I love how the fire started on the bed, the biggest source of evil and problems in that house.
Ways to make a raging fire look magnificent. Even down right poetic.
This scene is beautifully shot. The music, the cinematography, the acting
No way they could stand in that burning room without choking on smoke! Lol...looked awsome tho
gilead, where tf in the bible did god say no smoke alarms??
This comment is sooo underrated. :D
God is their smoke alarm.

I love how June said”burn mo...f..burn” also the music was somehow perfect for this scene
The story behind the song is what makes it so perfect. It’s about a girl who snaps and shoots up a school across the street from her house. When they asked why she did it, she said “I don’t like Mondays”
This scene was breathtaking, and was cool. it looked like the house was dying and talking. God I love this show.
OK but this pointed out a big flaw in Gilead's "all natural, all organic" model. Wood and organic fibers like canvas are the perfect fuel for a fire.
A tragic end to a beautiful house that was probably built to house a happy family, 150+ years ago.

Mesmer ASMR If she can’t have it, nobody can have it.
Wow I saw the scene differently.... Serena no longer believes in Gilead, burning the bed was the first step...

I think she is very interesting also..... Yvonne plays her very well.... I am hoping she somehow can redeem herself.... maybe she can kill fred....
@@LaineyM no matter how much she will do to redeem herself, it's never going to be enough
Sonia Khansa Darth Vader redeemed himself and he was certainly far worse than Serena.
