Elders in all countries need to be given a platform to record & share their stories and wisdom with the younger generations before it is lost. After I lost my mum and dad I realised just how much of their lives was a mystery to me. I had questions that would never be answered about family, their experiences and general knowledge they could have taught me. I love listening to elders tell me about their lives as things were so very different in their day. It makes you appreciative of what you have and of how much previous generations did for us.

Korea became a successful country partly because unlike in the west, it cut social welfare and social support (such as retirements and pensions), cost-cutting measures that ultimately hurt the elderly, rather than have the government fund those, they privatized that sector and let the companies you work at provide for it. for veterans many were unlucky after the war to not find full-time jobs in a company, they had to fend for themselves in a self-help society which is unfortunate especially for cases like Grandpa Lee who didnt have any family in the South being a Northerner and who simultaneously had a disability that prevented him from work, such a sad case that the government has little to no support for the elderly and the disabled.

As with America, I feel the freedom and prosperity that the younger generations enjoys is taken for granted. My father was 20-yrs retired Air Force. Half the time we did not know where in the world he was while deployed. We just waiting and prayed. I hope the future generations will never have to know the horror these soldiers faced. This why Asian Boss is my favorite channel on UA-cam just great stories. This Grandpa deserves so much love. His caretaker is also a grat lady to take of a Grandpa that isn't her Grandpa. I lived in Seoul when I was kid I'll never forget the Grandpa that let me sit on his lap on a bus properly my fondest memory of living in Korea I'll never forget him even though it was a short bus ride.

I can't stomach the fact that they let him down by allowing him to live his life in the slums.
Kpop, k dramas, k beauty products.. they'll have none of those things if it weren't for the men who fought in the war.

What a heartwarming surprise for him, what a special person both he and his caregiver is. I teared up when I heard what food would be served because nothing can make you feel like childhood food can. He has had a difficult life and I think it was meaningful to not feel forgotten.

this video is so perfect, i hope grandpa can eat his favorite foods whenever he wants now! something that touched me is also you took care of his caretaker. My grandma had a caretaker like her, who treated her like her own mother. she became part of our family and was always beside my grandma whenever she needed any kind of help. She was also there when my grandma took her last breath. She was there to support my grandma and also the rest of us during those difficult times. I truly can not give enough thanks to my grandma's caretaker, and even though she has great skill in elder care, she decided to stay with our family to be part of our hospitality business as well even after my grandma's passing. I guess she also sees us as family too.

I like him, he didn't blame the government even though the government probably have a piece in his situation but he just brush it off and said "well they're poor back in the days" like he expect nothing from them since they can't even organize themselves back then. He's basically saying like "Well what can i say, there's a lot of people to feed. Not just me"

What an incredible man. In spite of all he’s been through, he appears to think he simply did his duty rather than shaking his fist in anger at how he’s been unappreciated and neglected. Remarkably, he doesn’t resent the younger generations’ for their vastly better quality of life, which was built on his generation’s sacrifice. I have so much respect for him.
Thank you, Asian Boss, for giving this exemplary man some part of what he’s deserved for decades.
