More than anything, this is the journal of his experience with his illness. It is a story of confusion, isolation, gaslighting, misdiagnosis snd the repercussions of that. Its desperation, depression, anxiety and hopelessness. This is meant to be an acknowledgment of the journey all chronic illness sufferers go through. Multiply his story by a Million different souls all missing from the life we know as mostly healthy people. I can think of a lot of uses for these Chapters. Looking forward to the next.
The hard part of constant illness... a lot of times family and friends get "tired of it" which is it's own pain that doesn't help at all. The crazy part for me is that as he goes through these stories I hear his lyrics different. The story of his grandmother reminded me of "Life is Funny" because of the line "or will you die with a smile" ❤ I can't get over how much strength and courage this has to take. Thank you for sharing again!
What a remarkable human he is. I'm glad there's now a definitive version of his story, because people have made up so much about him based upon their marginal understanding of imprecise facts.
This project he's doing is so valuable for so many of us. Those of us who have had similar experiences, those who have been silenced and those who have tried to support someone whilst they navigate this horrific ordeal. I haven't seen anyone else do reaction to this as yet. Thank you for doing this. It helps push the agenda and creates space to raise more awareness. Ren... bless his heart. What a guy to share this stuff so openly.

Just hurt's my heart for him being so open and honest, rather than respecting that ppl gaining from it hurts my heart for him even more 💔
You wonder why we want to watch this with you. Why do we ever watch something together with others? To get another perspective, to feel connection through a mutual interest, to broaden your own view of things. I don't have anyone who wants to watch Ren with me, so I appreciate that there are great reactors like you that are really into his music and care about his artistry. ❤🔥

About his support group: he did mention in chapter one that he likes his solitude, I’m sure his family and friends were there for him, but at the end of the day he is the one dealing with his illness, mental anguish, and pain.so I think that makes you feel completely alone inside no matter how much people try to help. He did go to many doctors many times and they left him hopeless. I really feel for him.
"You can't spell genre without r-e-n". It's a combination of comments like those, and the unshed tear that threatens to fall from the outer corner of the right eye, that answers the question of why I watch these with you
For some of us Ren is our angel for in his use of his music and lyrics to tell his story he tells part of ours in ways that many of us can't do ourselves. Chronic illness, that so many medics and others don't properly acknowledge, with fluctuating and often unexplained symptoms (mine is not Lymes like Ren but is Long Covid and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) takes so much out of us and changes our lives as does the loss of those close to us. I admire his vulnerable honesty and can only hope he finds some relief from symptoms and mental relief and healing, too.
I have to agree that he sings what I feel. I'm no good at explaining in words how I feel with chronic illness. I always thought no one understood, but Ren does
I was diagnosed with M. E Years ago when my kids were tiny but because no one really knows what the illness is no one knows how to help or if they should I managed as far as I could alone most of the time making the most of the up times I had been bitten by a tick a few years before as well like Ren A lot of what Ren shares like about the lamp for SAD I also tried I can totally relate Most doctors told me they didn't think ME was a real illness. This was 20 years before Ren's struggles when people made jokes about people with these conditions

This chapter ends in summer 2011, but the Trick the Fox video at the end is from spring 2012. The drummer in that video, Tommy Frampton, had just joined the band, after Ren and Charlie reformed Trick the Fox in April 2012. Back in 2008-2011, Trick the Fox had been a 5 member band, but the guys drifted apart after graduating from university, except Ren and Charlie were flatmates and continued to work together to record Ren's album in fall 2011 at The Sanctuary studio in London, on which Charlie was the session bass player. Then, as I mentioned, in spring 2012 they switched gears to reform Trick the Fox and make it a band album.
