    have te same problem on bass. To wide a frequency band especially at high volumes which lacks the punch and I get lost in the mix. Got to be an eq fix to the problem but have yet to find it.

      I'm going to do a follow up video at some point, but I still think to cut through you need to move air in the same range as an old school amp/speaker. The virtual microphone in the middle of the chain seems to reduce the extreme amount of middle, flattens things out a bit and ruins the cut. For recording that sound is perfect, live, not so much.

    Fantastic video, like all others! Very original and practical. Keep it up please 👍
    A question about the amps in your headrush - your list looks different than mine somehow... On 4:26 - what is all those ocean amps? Why don't I have the marshall live return you are using?

    • @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush
      @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Ori, those amps you see are just presets made from the normal amps, when you're double clicked on an amp so its picture is showing on the screen if you hit "save" it gives the option "Save as new preset" you can then reall those settings easily in a new rig "Ocean" is a song in our set, and that preset is just the Vox amp set to suit that song :)

    Tell me more about this stereo to mono plug adapter please!

    • @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush
      @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Edward, it's just a stereo plug wired to a mono socket with the left and right wires joined, you could use the mono output on the TRS outs in the board, but you don't get a 2nd volume control like you do using the headphone output.

    I have an old valvestate amp. I'm wanting to purchase one of these or the Core. Would I plug this in to the effects loop?

    • @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush
      @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush  29 днів тому +1

      Yes, Don't use Cabs or IRs in the Modeller because the Valvestate has a cab and a virtual cab through a real cab sounds like ass. (at volume, it would work at low volume) but it's the way to go to keep the feel real.

      Thank you for your reply, I very much appreciate the advice. I will get an frfr at some point, but I have a nice collection of headphones (Sennheiser, Hifiman, Beyer Dynamic, etc) with which to explore further. It looks like I will have plenty to do for a while as this will be my first modeler.

    How is the hybrid method possible with the mx5 ? I know you mentioned it at the end of another Video, but I dont understand the method you describe their, yet. ❤ hope you can help

    • @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush

      There are 3 Elements that make the sound from a real guitar amp. 1. The Preamp - This is where tone originates 2. The Poweramp this just makes that tone louder 3. The Cabinet/Speaker this imparts a resonance and the characteristic of whatever cab/speaker is being used.
      All Modellers emulate these 3 items in software, in the Headrush the Amp blocks are the PreAmps, the IR is the Cab/Speaker, the Poweramp doesn't add character, just volume so it isn't modelled separately (Massive oversimplification there! Fractal users have control over the preamp too)
      So to use your MX5 with a real guitar amp the only part you're really interested in is the effects and Pre-amp, the amp block in the MX5.. because the real amp has a power amp and a cab/speaker so there's no need to replicate them in the MX5 ..they exist..
      So what you need to do is get the signal out of the MX5 before the IR (which is going to emulate the Speaker,) so insert an FX block after the amp and before the IR, this will take the preamp signal, send it out of an FX send socket .. plug that into the FX return socket of your real amp.. this socket in real a amp intercepts the signal after the Preamp, so what you're doing is using the preamp tone from the headrush and the power amp/speaker of the real amp.. this way you can flip between different amp tones in the headrush while taking advantage of the power amp/speaker in your real amp.
      I would organise my blocks like this:
      Wah - Pitch - Overdrives - Modulation - AMP - Reverbs - Delays - FX-SEND - IR That way your effects are going to the real amp too.. the signal will pass thru the FX block and IR appearing at your main outs with whatever IR you chose intact, the other signal has no IR and is off to yoru real amp via the FX block.

      @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush wow, thanks for the detailed answer. I think you mentioned the info I need. I will read it again later with more focus !
      To sum it up:
      I want an IR signal for the FOH/PA, and a signal for my amp/cab for live monitoring and rehearsals.
      so I got the fx loop block placed like u said in front of the IR and connected the fxsend from mx5 with the fxreturn from amp. As a result, the output goes off.
      I wonder, if I have to go back from fx send(amp) to return from the mx5 to solve this problem. I tried it with a patch cable, just to close the fx loop from the mx5 and it worked.
      Sorry for my cryptic English.

      I would just take a standard mono cable from the mono TRS out and plug it I to the FX return of your amp, set the alternate output to take the signal from the IR or cab input and route it to the TRS out and use the amps in the Headrush as the pre and your real amp as the power.. it still leaves the XLR out's for the PA as in the video, all you lose is the volume control that headphone out gives you..

    How would you compare the Helix vs Headrush?
    I have a HX Stomp and I really love it, but bought the Headrush MX5 as it is has some features I miss on the Stomp.
    I use them live in 4CM. Do you have any experience running it with 4 cable? At practice today in a 100w DSL I missed my stomp, but maybe I just need to tweak something I haven't thought of.

    • @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush
      @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush  3 роки тому +1

      Hiya, I bought a full Helix before I bought the Headrush, I'd done my research and on paper it was superior, but in the real world the band I'm in and myself all noticed that at volume it was very harsh, so we gave up and I went back to my Marshall head, but then I got the Headrush and we didn't have that problem, I don't use it 4 cable though, I prefer to use the amp models in the Headrush so I can swap between Marshall and Fender tones in the same song, I send the Headrush amp to the FX return on a 100 watt valve head into a 2x12 for live monitoring, I send the full Headrush rig to the front of house. The Helix does have better routing and more effects, but I find the Headrush amps more convincing and easier to dial in.. there isn't an effect I miss (apart from a slicer.. give me a slicer!)

      @@MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush Thanks for the reply! I was dissapointed using it with 4CM yesterday, but I think that is more me needing to tweak my presets/rigs better so I will continue testing this weekend.
      I felt the effects were harsh and so I think I must have done something "wrong". Through Headphones it sounds good, but through my 100W DSL it was not very great, but I will invest more time and hopefully figure it out.

      @@MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush Question, are you using a traditional 2x12 guitar cabinet through the 100 watt amp, or is it an FRFR cabinet? Not clear in your video or diagram.

    • @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush
      @MuckingAboutWithMyHeadrush  2 роки тому

      @@Shred_Rocket Traditional 4x12, the whole point is to get away from the full range speakers.. guitar amps and cabs are all middle, once you introduce an IR you have Iintroduced a microphone into the chain and that's why people are using frfr cabs to reproduce the full range of the mic'd up signal.. I like the feel of an amp in the room which is why I split the signal, real cab for me IR to the PA which is just a giant FRFR speaker.

  • @TimeCrisis1990
