The Battle of the Dragons Storm: “We were off the coast of Krakens Fall when the sea beneath the ship began to turn dark. The sky roared and darkened. The waves beneath the brig roiling in anguish. The planks moaning violently. As if it would buckle any moment collapsing beneath the strength of the waves. We descended into valleys, the waves becoming mountains. The sky roared as if a monster awakened from the sea. Beams of thunder and lighting lighting the black sky. Their roars full of wrath. There was no warning nor offer of any parlay. The enemy galleon descending upon us from our starboard side. The flash of their canons the only glimpse we saw of them. We were peppered with canon fire. The ship was pitchin and yarn violently. The hull pierced and filled with the black accursed water. We battled in that accursed storm, our canons responding in kind. No end in sight. The muzzle flash of the canons sending sparks and the dread of the sea. Before long we were board and bored. Our hulls riddled with holes and scorch marks. The sky above twisting and turning above us. Forming into a dark malevolent beast. The enemy crew descended upon us. Grapples and harpoons piercing our hull, locking us together. Their malevolent laughs and the glint of their steel our only warning. The rain hailed upon us. Blurring our vision and slowing our movements. The clash of steel and gunfire resounding and echoing within the storm. The rising and dipping of the waves sending us stumbling and crashing forwards. Just barely being able to fend off the enemy attacks. It seemed to last for hours, the void of the storm and the song of cannon fire becoming all too familiar. That's when the storm released its final roar. The marrow within our bones melting away. A loud crack resounded through the battle. The storm had chosen to finally release its claws. The forward mast of the enemy ship began toppling sideways. “ Veer off!” A man shouted through the storm. “ Veer off!” The enemy crew paused, looking forwards. Fear showing within their eyes. The storm had finally barred its fangs. Illuminated by lighting, their shadowed outline just barely visible in the distance. The rocks pierced the sky. The enemy crew retreated and their ship began turning. Both of our ships moaned as the harpoons and grapples were being ripped free. Taking our chance we bombarded their ship with cannon fire. Fearing not the spiky maw that lay dead ahead of us. For the wind was in our sails and we would ride directly through its jaws. Only not alone. We were taking the bastards with us. We harpooned their ship, the wood splintering. Cries went out as panic spread. They tried to break free, desperation within every action. Only by that point it was too late. The storms fangs towered overhead. Any attempt at escape impossible. That's when we did it. We released the harpoons, the rocks just grazing us. A loud splintering of wood echoed through the storm. And we saw for just a glimpse, their ship sinking beneath the waves. The cries and screams of its crew swallowed by the storm. We smiled, the bastards receiving their due. When suddenly the bullets of rain lightened, and a beam of light pierced the sky. The battle was over. As we departed, light showering us with hope, I looked out across the stern of our ship. The dark clouds shrinking in the distance. And I swear by all the gods, their shape was that of a dragon. Shortly after I named both our vessel and the battle, the Dragons Storm. The tale of the battle being told in every tavern and hideaway you could think of. Only this night, you’ve heard the true story. One told by Captain Thadeus Thatch himself. Remember this tale, for our ventures would have only just begun….”
