      Just pop the cap off the arm, if the nut or axle is moving but not wiper its definitely the problem

    Nice video.... Question on the last repair? My top slider has come loose and doesn't open or close that vent. How would I approach fixing that...can't really see behind or trace it out...
    thanks

      Ok so if you remove your cluster cover and look down behind the defrost/hazard or look through the slider slot you will see the metal bar that the plastic handle attaches to. There is a thick wire attached to that with a simple two opposing 90bends with the arm in between them (kinda like how old carburetor linkages are attached on a lawnmower or something) that wire then goes into a sheath the sheath protects the movement around the back of the box. If you open your glovebox and remove it you should see the other end clipped to the heater box then another weird z connection on the lever for the flap. The most likely failures are the wire bending while trying to push IN. Then the stupid z attachment pops out easy when it goes the other way. Next common failure is the wire/cables sheath is only held securely by a weak clamp thing right at the end of the sliders travel. That clamp can come loose or slide out of place. The original position is usually imprinted pretty deep in the cable sleeve or just slide it up and down the cable sheath till the sliders operating zone in in its correct range. Then clamp that sucker down. Lastly the other end can become loose by either popping out of its super cheesy 1/4” metal tension tab that is ridiculous in design. Or it’s popped ITS stupid Z attachment. I’d bet money it’s done the bendy thing up behind the panel. Just grab a flashlight or something and look in the gap and move the top level and watch the cable. Now move the next one and see how it’s attached. It’s not identical cable directions and stuff but same principles
      Good luck!

    At this point I would replace the wiper arm and avoid adding extra washers.

    • @ecophage
      @ecophage  3 роки тому

      I didn’t have to add washers, you can usually get a few spline cleanings out of one arm so long as it doesn’t spin free and keep eating into the arm metal. But basically if the spline shoulder isn’t above the wiper nut surface then it’s still good.

    The bottom heat lever doesn't control the dash side vents -- each of them has its own knob at the vent. The slider controls unheated air to the side vents in the passenger compartment.

    • @ecophage
      @ecophage  2 роки тому

      It controls the main fresh air flap AHEAD of those side vent individual flaps. It’s connected to the big fresh air flap in the heater box, and interrupts all the vents. That’s why it’s a little window symbol

      @ecophage  2 роки тому

      Though I do think I’ve seen different options for this slider on different year models. There were two different heater box designs that had fresh air doing different things

    • @dbeierl
      @dbeierl 2 роки тому

      @@ecophage Air cooled had a different setup. But water cooled, the only control on the dash side vents (heated late, unheated early) is the thumb knob on the vent itself.

      @@dbeierl then what’s the bottom slider for? Why does the airflow out mine stop when I slide that window slider over?

    • @ecophage

      On page 80.10 of factory manual it refers to it as the “main cut off flap”
