This device seems to squeeze out as much performance and capability from its hardware as possible. Perhaps that's why they have so many storage options - maybe they had some IO left and couldn't use it for something beefy like another SATA/USB port but could put some extra flash on there (and it also seems handy if you use that storage a lot, so you can switch to another if one burns out). According to the wiki, it uses a 12V 2A DC input, which is lower than any other (managed) router/switch with 2.5GbE that I can find. I'm quite tempted to get me one of these...
Please note this is a devolment board so there is options that would not be included on a production high volume unit . The lots of options is so you can figure out what feature set you want to use in production
I'm curious if the version of OpenWRT you were running had WiFI AP(s) with 802.11b rates turned off. This can definitely affect speeds for multicast traffic, effectively enforcing the lowest common denominator as a "speed limit" of 802.11b legacy WiFi speeds for all multicast traffic on the network. In OpenWRT prior to 19.07, it must be turned off manually in /etc/config/wireless for the radio in question. For example: config wifi-device 'radio1' option legacy_rates '0' I think maybe in newer OpenWRT versions it has been disabled by default, but I can not verify this from first-hand experience. So, I'm not 100% sure it's always assumed to be off.
hi there! can you help me i got this device im booting from microsd trying to flash openwrt to nand then to emmc, so every instructions out there is telling to choose from u-boot menu string that says install to nand or nor but mine u-boot doesn't have this entries so how can i boot this sht properly, even better you might make a video with detailed guide on how to install this sht 🙏 i guess im not the only one with this problem
The default included antennas are not wifi 6 rated, you might want to upgrade your antennas to get better wifi results. Also you are missing heatsinks on the chips.

Hey, may I ask how tf did you fixate those antennas? I've bought the package from AliExpress and the default antennas came with some accessories, but no extra nut for me to press them against the case, how did you do it?
@@junicast_tech oh yeah, I contacted them and the nuts were in fact missing, since it was my first purchase and the content on this router is hard to find I didn't know if I was doing something wrong lol, I ordered some new antennas that are better than this one and hopefully will come with the nuts :D
Dose it has support vor VLAN on the 5 Gigabit NICs or it that just a onboard 5 port switch? And Dose VLAN work on the SFP Ports? Could it run pfSense or OpenSense?
@@junicast_tech too Bad. That would be important for VDSL2 Modems over SFP that need a special VLAN ID to be set by the Provider to Work. VLAN on the Gigabit NiCs works?
I need your help regarding banana pi I bought Banana Pi BPI-R3 Set MediaTek MT7986 2G DDR4 RAM 8G eMMC Flash 5 GbE Network Port SFP 2.5GbE Openwrt Wifi Wireless Router Board and I want to configure sfp as wan and other eth port as bridge and I wand to set up vlan10 for internet and vlan30 for voip can you please help me on that ? I have already DFP-34X-2C2 from ODI works great with Mikrotik rb5009 i want to use it with banana pi
I know there once were Link Aggregation packages for OpenWrt but I've never tried to use that. Generally speaking I suggest against using it, because only in rare cases it will speed up connections.
Shown on the Banana Pi Wiki is supposedly a version that has one 2.5GbE Copper and SFP with support for a PoE module to be soldered. However I have not been able to find it for sale.
i dont see the price for all components below 400~450€ in combination with the clunky software this is a no-go for me for home use its too expensive if u just want 2.5gbs in my opinion. u can get an unmangaed qnap switch with 5 2.5gbs ports for around 100€ or a zyxel with 8 2.5bgs ports for 150€ buy two and its still cheaper than this device but i really like the design and the support for a sim card as a fallback line, would be great for small businesses if the software would work flawlessly

Those are not the default antennas.
Heatsink on the chips, why? How hot do they get? How hot may they become?
Wifi chips reach temperatures of more than 90 degrees celcius, heat sinks are advisable@@junicast_tech

I did not buy the package, but bought everything seperately. If something is missing either contact the seller or buy the missing parts.

No pfSense / OPNsense.
VLAN on the SFP ports I wasn't able to test.

Is it possible to install Linux and create aggregation with those 2 SFP ports and use it as NAS with plugged USB drive?

Hi, what bus for m.2. 2.0 or 3.0?
2.0
Does it have PoE? Can't find that info. Would be a pity if not.

Does it have a good wi-fi range? How far can it go?
It is quite hard to establish a benchmark for that as every environment is pretty different. I will make some tests and come back with feedback.
@@junicast_tech 2.4Ghz will always have a longer range, so be sure to make a disquisition between 2.4Gz & 5Gz.
