Whether what he's saying is true or not, he knows more about crime than any mystery writer, so any stuff he puts together comes from expertise and experience. He's a great storyteller. No worse than watching a fictional TV show.

The business was insured and they would get reimbursed for the loads or they would otherwise write it off.
Maybe I’m wrong but I get the sense that he isn’t a liar. Possibly hyperbolic? I wasn’t there so I’m not sure. But, in my opinion, his body language and his stream of consciousness while recalling memories all point to him telling the truth.
