If you fell 10 stories you’d break both your legs… no way you walk away unscathed
if it was a true free fall sure but it likely just wasn't a true free fall just way faster than an elevator is supposed to go. Especially since the ebrake then stopped it
for reference I think most elevators accelerate at a max of like 1m/s2 and freefall would be 9.8m/s2 there's a lot of wiggle room in there 2m/s2 suddenly would feel like free fall but wouldn't hurt you from that distance.
