Thank you for this vidéo, it will help to fix mine. My first camera bought in 1978 when I was at university of Strasbourg it is still vaillant especially with the smc A 100. f2,8 macro and my smc 200 f2,5. It’s One of my favorite camera with my Nikon Df dslr I take everywhere I go. The music is anoying wéd préfère the sounds of the tools and the shutter working. All the best
I have been reading a lot more about camera maintenance and the pentax MX in special. I own 5 of them and have fixed some of them . Now what bothers me about this video is the service that is shown here. Basically the shutter maintenance is just adding tension to the shutter curtains without using a curtain tester. This makes little sense considering there's a specific curtain speed of 12.2 to 12.3 ms that is recommended by the official repair manual. Just adding tension increases the speed. More tension means higher forces and more wear. Secondly lubrication is just flushing the cam with a lot of oil. The proper way to do it would be to clean it of old lubricants first and then applying only a little amount to relubricate the mechanisms. Some even go as far as greasing contacts to minimize wear. And the best of all would be to actually disassemble the whole mechanisms and clean them individually in a supersonic before reassembling and reoiling. My guess would be that this camera, while initially working better might end up having bad shutter times and potentially breaking sooner due to the unnecessary tension in the shutter curtains.
As a sorcerer's apprentice I take note and thank you both for the contribution each of you makes. I take this opportunity to ask something that is probably trivial for many but... what lubricant is recommended to use? Thank you! (translated by Google have ... understanding) ;)
The shutter adjustement he is doing is not without a tester, you can see him take the camera away to test it on a shutter tester, then coming back with it to adjust the tension. For the lubrication... i don't really know what to think... in a sense, yes, for a full CLA you should dissassemble the whole thing, clean it, and lubricate it... but in no way the video mention a CLA, and if his client asked for a quick repair, this is a valid quick and professional repair. As a repairman, i've offered simple renovations for people, cleaning, repairing and lubricate essential point of the camera, you get a working camera, that will last long, for a more modest price.. and in no way the camera will be better before than after lol (even tho i agree, the amount of lubricant he seems huge, but i don't know what he use for lubrication) plus, all the bs about supersonic cleaning... it's good, it increase the quality of your repairs, but that's not necessary at all, you don't need a supersonic cleaner to make those camera work for 10 more years lol, don't worry they are made to last. just don't put oil where you don't know, don't put all in 1 lubricant or wd-40 or some other bs... and don't do anything if you don't know the camera x)
Hey there! nice video. I am starting to get into camera maintenance/repair of my own pentax mx cameras so I appreciate every content there is. Sadly there's not that much out there. Especially on the harder to reach mechanisms. To my surprise those Cameras are not only really fun to use but it's also possible to do simple repairs on. I already managed to fix bent covers, a semiworking ISO dial and resoldered broken connections. Also cleaning the dials and dedusting the optics. It's smaller repairs and maintenance stuff but it's quite rewarding. What kind of oil are you using to get everything running smoothly again?

I own Pentax K1000 / ME SE / ME Super / MX - the MX is my hands-down favourite, awesome camera in every respect.
Good choice!

Glad to hear you’re getting into camera repairs. We normally use NY Oil lubricants.
It wouldn't be so bad if you would explain what you are doing instead of playing that stupid annoying music in the background.
