    An old body man once told me "spend your time straightening the metal and you won't have to spend your time sanding the filler. The straighter the metal, the better and faster it'll finish up." Don't worry about spending the time straightening the metal out. It'll last longer than the putty will.

    Hope the owner doesn't decide to chop the top after all of that beautiful, time consuming metal work! Watching you reminds me of the metal crafters that taught me over 50 years ago. Wish we had tig welders then! Doing the roof fill with oxy/acetylene would have been a nightmare! You are a true craftsman!

    Really interesting! Using the time lapse function really exposes the movement of the metal after you weld it. From about 13:35 to about 14:20 in the video you really see how the metal shrinks back down while it cools. Very cool to see! Good work man! I’m learning while watching. Eh! 🤘🏼👍🏼

    That Chevelle roof turned out great on there! I have the same english wheel that you do, it was very frustrating to use with how spongy and inconsistent it was. I added a backbone on mine out of roll bar tubing left over from another project and polished the upper and lower anvils. It made a huge difference. Very consistent and a lot easier to make panels with it. You may want to consider something similar if it gives you too much trouble.

    Excellent work Kyle!! As always you amaze me with your metal expertise, when you're done with the metal work you don't need body filler, just prime it and paint and you're good to go! Question though, are you adding any supports to keep it from tin-canning, or does it have enough curve to the roof to support itself?

    • @CarterAutoRestyling
      @CarterAutoRestyling  3 роки тому +13

      Thanks Ken. Yes I did end up bracing the roof using the original supports from the Chevelle donor roof. They are just temporarily tacked in at the moment because the owner of the car still needs to replace all the wood and install sound deadener on the inside of the roof.
