He's like the most top tier voice actor they can hire for the game so they're probably getting the best out of him. That's likely the reason why they didn't get a fluent English person to voice him.

He just put a lot of effort into it. It is quite impressive really.

To answer your question, the JP voice track was probably recorded months in advance before the eng dub was even recorded. Meaning that all the English speaking NPCs that you hear are probably English speakers living in Japan working for agencies out there. Two completely separate audio tracks that they just can't splice together lol

Honestly, some parts of the Japanese dub kinda make me glad that I chose to use the English dub since it’s my main go to ever since Yakuza: Like a Dragon. At the same time, I just love English dubs since I like how American standards are for acting as a whole. Especially if most of the game takes place in America. **SPOILER WARNING** And personally, Yong Yea did a really god job with Kiryu, especially during the fight with Ebina, genuine screams from Yea sent CHILLS down my spine. He actually nailed the screams that Kuroda did. I can see Yea being a good next gen English Kiryu, as with Kevin Afghani carrying the torch for Mario’s new voice actor
Yeah, I think he needs time to adjust and they need to have him try to go lower more consistently, more or less. His voice to me was perfect for Kiryu during the serious moments where he spoke in lower registers, but I can just imagine that would be hell on his throat... then again, maybe just getting more experience doing it would help.
