This got to be one of the best tutorials ive ever seen on any topic. No fluff, no stupid youtube bs, no point is left out, everything concise and actionable with helpful tips along the way. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Good video from a top man on electrics, i am an old man and have been using power tools for over 50 years and i have learned more in half an hour than in all them years . Brilliant .
A real teacher...explained patiently, step by step...even a traffic policeman can understand, even if he retires at 45 and with a pension higher than the salary from the activity...thanks for the lesson and my respect for you
I don't normally comment or watch tutorial video this long, and fixing this company grinder isn't that important. But your video captivates me due to your explicit teaching and step by step tutorial. I felt joy learning from you and that's rare from me. Thanks a lot mr diy
Excellent ! Best video for checking a motor without special equipment. I just want to say that i believe that the difference in the resistance of the cord is not a problem fot the motor itself because everything is in series so the curent is everywhere the same.
I guess you deserve a PhD in teaching bro! You are amazing... I really enjoyed your simple and straight forward explanations. God Bless you & keep it up please.
Brilliant video. Nice clear explanation and demonstration. I've just bought an almost new 'Spares or Repair' angle grinder for a tiny price and tested it as per your video and identified a damages armature ( failed the side by side resistance test ). New one ordered today for a very reasonable cost. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with us. 😊😊😊😊
Well done! We'll done my friend! Thank you for being precise and meticulous in your explanation. I would've never figured out what the issue is with my rotary tool without your help. Sadly, in my case, the commutator has 3 segments that displayed infinite resistance. In other words broken or burned wires. I'm not sure where I might find a replacement armature where I live that might be a perfect fit for my tool. I guess it's time for a new rotary tool!
Thank you for an excellent explanation of the working of an angle grinder in simple terms so that even I, a complete novice, can understand the testing of the various components and parts.
So I have a orbital polisher, which in short is very similar to an angle grinder. When I try to start it, it takes a loooong time to do it and seems to do it in impulses. I have checked everything that you mentioned here and all seems to be fine, resistances check out, there are no shorts. The switch sits on a small board with a speed control knob. Since everything else checks out, I suspect this to be the issue but I am not sure. The board contains the folowing: Speed control knob, power switch, 2 resistors (one smaller 100k ohm one a little bigger 300k ohm), one small capacitor(unsure of rating), a BTB12-600B triac, and a 0.22uF rectangular capacitor. What to do next? I suspect that 0.22uF capacitor to be the culprit, but I am not sure...
Thank you as it was very helpful as I go through grinders as work with concrete cutting and they brake down on me, I been try to find info to do my own repairs as taking the grinder back for repairs these day cost gone through the roof. Thank you kindly
great video checked all my components and they passed all tests however my grinder just makes noises and heats up without starting to spin even when loadless. a real shame since ive been trying to fix it for 3 days already
Excellent information and very well done! I am working with a Kirby G4 vacuum motor that’s sparking and smoking. I did every test you demonstrated on the armature which is new from Kirby and it passed three test and new brushes also. The bearings are good as the rear bearing is new with the armature. The wiring and contacts all check out and the field winding passed both test. Everything went back together as was from pictures and notes. When I turned it on it was as if I had done nothing! Still sparks like a bright burst on the commutator at the brushes?? Do you have any suggestions? It is a very well made machine worth fixing. I’m planning to get a new motor for now unless I can fix it. I’m determined to find what is causing the problem and may end up with a spare motor or one to sell. Thanks for your work you’re the best.
If it sparks then try cleaning the commutator with some contact cleaner and see if that has any effect. There might be carbon buildup between the copper segments preventing correct contact with the brushes.
Hey, I have a newer version of this with a controller put in before one of the stator windings for speed control. Armature and Stator passed all the tests you showed, however, Grinder won't spin, its just makes a humming noise. Any Ideas what the problem is?
Try turning the speed controller slowly either speed up or slow down, wiggle the knob, my take is it already has some play to it, if the grinder turns, you can lay the blame on the speed controller.
@@MrDIYer It doesn’t turn, I redid everything, the commutators diagonal resistances don’t match up anymore, which is sad It worked before I changed the bearing, now it just hums. Me armature is to expensive though to be worth it
my grinder has 10mm nut on the front of the head.. i couldn't manage to remove the nut due is too tight.. i has blowtouch it for a while to expend.. but still cannot.. any tip?

Very informative sir, may ask sir my angle grinder when it turn on the head overheat but the body is normal, any idea what is the problem. Tnx
Worn out bearing or too much grease.

OUTSTANDING.
Very informative. Thank you.
