I know it’s been seven years but I just wanted to say thank you for this recipe. My mother’s side of the family are Cuban first generation immigrants and my grandfather used to make the best black beans. I never did get his recipe before he passed away a few years ago, and have been wanting to make them for some time now. The only thing I changed was to add a splash of red wine vinegar, but this recipe tastes so much like his did! It really brought me back to fine memories…Thank you again.
I like to Use a fatty pork belly instead of Chorizo. A trick that Abuelítas here in Miami use is to take out about 1-2 cups of the cooked black beans and ingredients and puree them, then add the paste back into the mix. It thickens it up. I personally like olives and fresh squeezed lime juice in my Frijoles as well.
I have never tasted cuban food before but hands down, this is the best beans I have tasted in a long time. Thanks chef Zee for this video. I am gonna make this all the time. The recipes are so simple and easy to follow.
I love Cuban food and music. My mom cooked black beans and fried plantains a lot when I was growing up. I haven’t done this recipe in years. Thank you so much for the old school recipe and playing the music, it brought back such great memories!
I lived in Atlanta and had black bean soup from the Georgia and it was delicious, now I finally found a recipe that is like theirs. I am smiling big time. My beans are soaking right now. I don't have chorizo so I am using pan sausage(breakfast sausage). Thanks for sharing.
I absolutely love this recipe. I loved that you used a wide variety of fresh vegetables and seasonings. I use double pork all the time ( chorizo plus sausage) and as soon as I saw that you sautéed the bacon and sausage together : 🤤. Then when you advised serving the beans the next day I was like “ ohhhhh, yes”.
Eso! Hola! I've saved recetas before but I have never felt like the magic I felt seeing your presentation. Just what I'd been looking for! Just what I needed. I can't wait' to prepare lo! Thank you, amiga!
Thank you Chef Zee for this awesome recipe. I made the black beans from scratch using your recipe, and it was the best rice and beans I have made. I’m going to try the turkey recipe next.
Waiting on my dutch oven to arrive and IT'S ON!!!! Can't wait to try this recipe. My wife's Brazilian friend uses fatty meats like pig feet. She also uses the sauce to make some sort of appetizer shot drink. I'm going with your recipe step by step. Thanks!
Made this tonight with white rice and your Dominican style fried chicken and oh my. Damnnn Chef Zee who taught you how to cook this good? Your abuela? Or someone else? #props to them
Hi Chef Zee! I love this recipe, but I could not find the full cooking instructions on your blog page. I only saw the "easy" Cuban black beans. Could you post the full instructions if possible? Thanks. I love this recipe, but I know I am doing something wrong. Appreciate it!
Hello I’m from Ecuador but living in Hungary. This is just the recipe I was looking for, without a pressure cooker. I made it yesterday and really loved it with white jasmine rice. Thanks for sharing! By the way, I love all kinds of soups would you mind sharing more soup recipes? 😃
Hi Chef Zee, I went to your website, but I couldn't find this recipe, just the quick one. I was wondering the water measurement to the bean ratio, yours looked a lot thicker than mine came out. I also live in a place that I cannot get my hands on the recao. Only cilantro, as I know the flavors are similar I put that in, I used that. It was delicious.
Chef Zee I love your bean recipe. Question how do you soften the beans in the pressure cooker if you dont have time to soak the beans over night? How long in the pressure cooker and how many cups of water? Thanks!
Hello. I don't seen the Cuban black beans from scratch on your blog. After soaking the black beans overnight do you drain them? I couldn't tell if you added new water, before pouring the clean beans into the pot.
Hola-hola! I see you have a lot of onions in the ingredients list, but I don't see them used in the recipe. How many onions do I need? Also, how did you prep the black beans? Were they dry or canned? Gracias! Quiero encontrar la receta de Havana Central. Me encantaron las habichuelas que me sirvieron en ese restaurante. Gracias por su receta!
This really depends on how much beans I'm making. When soaking the beans, I typically place them into a large bowl and add enough water to cover them completely so that it's totally submerged in water. I eyeball it until there's about 2-3 inches of water above the beans. I hope this helps!
She says "vino seco" when she puts all the seasonings. Can you help me, too? At 3.20, after she mentions Oregano, I don't understand the ingredient after oregano. Thanks :)
in the subtitle is written cacao but it sounds more like a spanisch word 🤔 and cacao is not mentioned as ingredient. I am not an english or spanish native speaker, I am not an expert 😂
I have a question. What kind of chorizo? I love Colombian chorizo lol. But is there a particular one u used for this recipe ??? I’m can’t wait to make it. Thank you chef Zee. ❤️
I am trying to understand where you used all those onions...I know you said 1/2 whole onion in the beginning with the beans to simmer...then you had another 1/2 chopped or diced for the saute but then in the ingredients you ask for another 3 or4 onions which I didnt see you add....can you clarify please and thanks appreciate it....happy new year!!!!
Hello and thanks for sharing. This looks delish and I can't wait to try it. I do have a question though. What kind of bouillon do you use? Beef? Chicken? Vegetable?
Thanks! Just found your channel and subscribed. I am going to try this. it look so delicious! Do you use the water that you soak the bean in? if so, how much water?
This looks so delicious! I'm Dominican but I respect the Cuban black beans and Moro congris. Do you recommend doing this recipe and then making it into a black moro rice arroz congris?
Hi Chef Zee. Looks really good. Question: say i wanted to double the recipe and use a pressure cooker (Ninja Foodi)? Would all of the ingredients double in this case? Also, how much time would u suggest for the pressure cooker and at what temp (High), and how much liquid (water?) Chorizo (sp) is not a hit in this house so is there any substitute pork sausage that might work instead? I know know this is a lot to answer and i really appreciate it!!! Thanks! I recently made your Pernil roast and it was terrific!

Girl is legit, simmered it the way my Cuban abuela did with the large pieces of peppers and onions and then the chorizo and sofrito. Delish.

The background music sounds very traditionally Cuban and is simply fantastic. Thanks for your recipe.

Could you please do an instapot Cuban black beans blog or vlog?!? I made these and soooooo good!
Please add to your website :) I only see the easy version on there 😫
Chef Zee I love your bean recipe. Question how do you soften the beans in the pressure cooker if you dont have time to soak the beans over night? How long in the pressure cooker and how many cups of water?
Thanks!
Umm, that looks excellent
Making this tonight! 🙌🏽
I don’t understand the different quantities of onion in receipee, is that for different quantities of beans? Plz explain
The 1/2 onion is put in at the first cooking, the chopped onion is sautéed with the green pepper and put in later. It’s clear to see in the video
Hello.
I don't seen the Cuban black beans from scratch on your blog. After soaking the black beans overnight do you drain them? I couldn't tell if you added new water, before pouring the clean beans into the pot.
new subscriber. great video and a great meal! thank you for sharing
Thank you!!! And welcome to the family :)
I'm making this now
The beans look PERFECT! I just wanted to clarify that your recipe asked for approximately 4-5 whole onions? Thank you.
The list just keeps adding onions right lol
Love it
Great video! Where did you get the blue bowl that you placed the black beans in?
You keep the soaking water ?
What is the green leafy bit she put in? Bay leaf or chopped cilantro? Looked like a larger leaf. Thx
It's s bay leaf 😊 After you're done cooking, remove the bay leaf and enjoy the beans!
Looks great! I’m going to make them and use as an ingredient for another dish :-)
Nice! 🥰😎
Thank you!
Do you use fresh water or the soaking water?
Nathan Farias She uses the soaking water.
Hola-hola!

how much water do you use? when soaking and when cooking the beans? thx chef zee

Do you cover the beans with a lid or just let them cook uncovered during this process?
Ok cool. Thank you
You're welcome!
I love the comment, "Dance and mingle." Thanks for this wonderul recipe. Now, I can get my Cuban Beans fix.
Nice!!! Im making some myself this weekend :)
Is pino seco you mentioned also celery stick?
Vino seco = dry white wine
This dish is part of my permanent rotation.
cant wait to try
These are 🔥
Zee can you use this recipe with an Instapot ?
I can't find the recipe for this on your site :( only the easy black bean recipe
Awww...that's good. Good Luck! 😊👍
Thanks love!!!
Can I use bacon instead of chorizo
yes, fatty salty meat substitutes work here
What type of chorizo you used ?
I use Spanish or Mexican chorizo. Depending on the store that I go to, they sometimes have a few that are handmade on premise and they're DELICIOUS!
How much olive oil and water do I add? I want to make this tomorrow for dinner.
I’m a bit confused with the whole onions. The recipe calls for 1/2 whole onion and 3-4 whole onion. Am I missing something?
Is it ok to add the
Tomato paste and all that seasoning stuff toward the beginning?
When is the dry white wine used?
She says "vino seco" when she puts all the seasonings. Can you help me, too? At 3.20, after she mentions Oregano, I don't understand the ingredient after oregano. Thanks :)
@@jelllow I had to turn in the caption to get it lol but she's saying cacao

Hello! I love your channel1 Can you make this in a crock pot?
What is that 3rd ingredient you spoke about adding at the end with the hot sauce & queso fresco? Is it cassava?
Question...if I'm not adding the pork do I still add the diced onion and bell pepper?
yes.
How much water do you soak the beans in b/c I see that you then use that water.
it doesn't matter
What is the name of the music that starts at 1:49?
I have a question. What kind of chorizo? I love Colombian chorizo lol. But is there a particular one u used for this recipe ??? I’m can’t wait to make it. Thank you chef Zee. ❤️

shawn HERBERT I’m trying to figure out the same thing!!!! Thanks for asking- hope someone replies b4 my onions go bad! :)
I think it is supposed to be 3-4 cloves of garlic, not onions.
How much water for a cup of beans?
Hello and thanks for sharing. This looks delish and I can't wait to try it. I do have a question though. What kind of bouillon do you use? Beef? Chicken? Vegetable?
Hey thanks for watching!!! I use chicken bouillon :)
Whats the background music please?
Thanks! Just found your channel and subscribed. I am going to try this. it look so delicious! Do you use the water that you soak the bean in? if so, how much water?
Do you use the same water it was soaked in overnight in the cooking? Or do you discard the water? Thanks
Use same water
How much water do you use?
This looks so delicious! I'm Dominican but I respect the Cuban black beans and Moro congris. Do you recommend doing this recipe and then making it into a black moro rice arroz congris?
Me here trying to see if with some cooking skills my partner marries me 😆
no vinegar at the end?
I add diced up grilled brats, and smoked ham hocks instead of chorizo.
