If I only had to choose 5 PLUGINS for MIXING
In this video, I share my top 5 Desert Island Mixing Plugins. If I had to mix a song using only 5 plugins, these would be my go-to choices. From EQs to compressors, I'll explain why these plugins would be my top choice if I was stuck on an island with only 5 plugins to mix with. If you're looking to simplify your plugin collection or just want to know what I would use in a pinch, this video is for you. Tune in to find out which plugins make the cut.

Now your turn, what are your 5 Desert Island Mixing Plugins? Choose wisely, and let me know in the comments :-)
PRO - Q 3
Virtual Mix Rack
Echoboy
Neural DSP
Valhalla Vintage Verb
Fostex 160
Yamaha R1000
Yamaha Rex-50
Boss DS-1
Boss CE-2
;o)
My 5 desert plugins are Acustica Audio Ebony, Fab Filter Pro Q3 and Saturn 2, Valhalla delay and Baby Audio Crystaline
Nice Video Chris!
These are my choices:
1. Slate Virtual Mix Rack
2. FF Pro Q3
3. FF Saturn 2 (its insane)
4. Valhalla Vintage Verb
5. Echoboy
Good stuff! Can you imagine that I never tried FF Saturn
Fun, my choice for reverb is the stock plugin reverence. It would cover the delay for me as well.
That's a good choice! Thanks Andy!
Hi Chris!
It's always a great pleasure to watch your videos.
Very good choices here.
If you accept me on your island, I will also put in my suitcase:
- ReaComp (Cockos): a compressor with which you can do almost anything
- VCS-1 Channel Strip (Fuse Audio Labs): because it's pretty, but above all because this channel strip sounds great
- Vintage Verb (Vahlalla): all the reverbs in a single plugin, with a retro touch
- Replika (Native Instrument): classic delay, but with saturation and modulation effects
- Satin (U-he): the best tape on the market, nothing more, nothing less
And since you chose the Omni Channel and the Pro Q3, which I also use all the time, well... I'll ask you to lend them to me on your island, ok ? 😂
Thanks again Chris. Tshuss!
Echo Boy as a saturator only.... I've had it for a few years now and NEVER thought of using it like that. Brilliant!
Can't give you my top five yet, but it's a great challenge... and encourages discipline!
Thanks, bro!
Hey Chris, my first comment here on your channel, although I keep watching you on a regular basis. I've only been really into mixing for the last few years, but here would be my choice:
Fabfilter Pro-Q 3
Fabfilter Saturn 2
Slate Virtual Mix Rack
Soundtoys Effect Rack
LiquidSonics VerbSuite Classics with the Bricasti M7 library
Thanks for all your content! :)
1. Acustica Audio Gold
2. Acustica Audio Magenta
3. IK Multimedia Sunset Sound Reverb
4. Soundtoys Echoboy
5. Acustica Audio Taupe or Waves Kramer Master Tape
sorry I love the Tape specifically the Ampex. Really wanting that new Warm Audio 351 MPX unit🤘
Amazing. I've always loved the saturation module in echoboy but never though to use it on 0.0 ms - brilliant! Thank you Chris!
It's a very nice feature... You're very welcome!
Oxford Limiter, UAD Neve 1073, ProQ 3, lexicon 480L, Span Plus
My five:
Brainworx SSL 4000G
Waves R-Bass
Fab Filter Pro-L2
Celemony Melodyne
Waves MV2
I would use stock reverbs, delays, and amp sims if I had to. But all of these do something I can't get with stock plugins. Melodyne and L2 are especially important to me because I find Logic's built-in limiters and pitch correction software to be pretty bad.
Never realized Echoboy could be used as a saturator. Can’t wait to try it.
🦧
1. Waves CLA SSL Channel Strip (has saturated "bite" when using the mic line to drive the eq + compression - good noise gate too);
2. Waves Puigtech Eq (great top end that provides saturation);
3. Waves L2 limiter;
4. Overloud VST for guitar and bass;
5. Waves CLA Epic for delays+reverbs.
Other recommended: Just started using TAPEFACE by KIIVE (Plugin Alliance) - very good tape saturation.
1. Sound ID
2. SSL 4KB
3. Kirchhoff EQ
4. Valhalla Vintage Verb
5. Echoboy
Nice video! Here are 5 plugins I’d use :
1. SoundID
2. Metric Halo Channel Strip 3
3. Echoboy as well (sick saturation hack!!)
4. Waves H-Reverb
5. Analog Obsession Comper
Nice choice bro!
You are the BEST 👍👍👍
I think I'd probably use my Pulsar Massive and Mu as EQ and compression, then my Melda multiband delay, reverb, and saturation plug-ins.
I don't yet have Soundtoys, but they're on the wish list, after I get a decent orchestral strings and piano instrument plug-in.
I'm hoping there's some great coffee on the desert island.
Liked that you chose the Scheps. Lots of functionality and tone from that little channel strip. We are "spoiled" for choice these days for our VSTs.
We are definitely spoiled 😅
1: antares autotune pro
2: fabfilter pro q3
3: waves rvox
4: valhalla vintageverb
5: fabfilter pro L2
would be my choice :)
Fabfilter Pro-Q3, Fabfilter Saturn 2, and UAD Distressor. These 3 would cover me pretty well
Я не профессиональный звуко-режиссер просто музыкант но взял бы это на остров))
1-Classic Compressor-Mixcraft
2-FabFilter Pro-Q 3
3-Maag Audio
4-OXFORD INFLATOR
5-Tone2 Warmverb multi-FX - ревербератор
-PRO Q3
-Sheps OmniChannel
-PRO R REVERB
-Echoboy
-Stock eq plugin
Kiive Xtressor - Waves F6 - PA black box saturator - Seventh heaven Bricasti emulat
Hello Dear Chris , very nice video
Many thanks
FabFiler, period.
Scheps Omni - its all in one, you dont need anything else, hahah ;P
My options:
1. eq: Fabfilter ProQ
2. comp: UAD ManleyVari-MU
3. sat: Kush audio Omega Transformer Model TWK
4. delay: Echo boy
5. reverb: Valhalla VintageVerb
All Kush products are brilliant processors
Excellent videos - good communication and good content - win/win
Great choices. Several years ago I read an article where Peter Gabriel's house engineer at the famed Real World Studios said he and Peter like putting an instance of Echoboy on every channel, first in the chain, just for saturation, including PG's vocals. Been using it since then, although many times Kazrog True Iron does some wonderful console saturation.
Scheps Omni... it's not cheating - it's working smarter, not harder
Pro Q3, Pulsar Massive, P42 Climax, U-he Presswerk, Valhalla Vintage Verb + Sound ID :)
Love it! Thanks 👍
If I'm on a desert island, probably a guitar
What do you use that's like Waves Ultramaximizer? Isn't that essential for digital mixing?
Limiting plugins like this are generally considered to be mastering plugins, though they are of course used on individual tracks. Since he is mixing and not mastering that waves plugin wil be on an adjoining island, in a pal tree mastering hut.
@@OmnesiaBand Yes, I see but is the Waves plug in the one most used by pro studios or do they go with something else? I apologize for being so uninformed.

SSL Bus. Eventide Ultrachannel, Eventide h3000, supermassive, profab.
Decisions...
1. FF - Pro-Q3
2. PA - 50 Series Channel Strip
3. Sonible - Smart:Limit
4. Softube - Harmonic Analog Saturation Processor
5. Vallhalla DSP - VintageVerb
The answer is anything but waves 😂
😂 Selecting Omini Chanel strip is a cheat......lol
Why? A Plugin is a plugin, I picked 5 plugins, not only 5 effects
Well, just wondering if you’d consider in this regard waves studio rack as a plugin ........?
I’d say no as you still have to choose what plugins to use as opposed to Echoboy or OmniChannel which are all included in the same plugin.
Waves studio rack uses your plugin list
You missed the point of 5 plugins when you loaded up the channel strip!!! But cool echo boy trick
I didn't miss the point, a plugin is a plugin. I didn't say to choose only 5 effects
@Skrypture I disagree! If anything, it's a smart choice : having many features into one plugin is a smart move, if you ask me! Same logic applies with Echoboy : is it missing the point of 5 plugins if Echoboy can also serve as a saturator? 🤔
@@jesperzacarias91 lol I just live to give Chris a hard time because he’s better than me 😂 😂
