Good morning Doug. I totally blew this one. I put this aside last night to watch it right after I came home at seven. I forgot to go back to it. I will truly give it the proper view that it deserves this evening. Looking forward to it. Have a dynamite day~ Rob/Boston
Thanks Rob, look forward to hearing what you think and have a great day...I divided this one into chapters for easier viewing a piece at a time as it did run a bit longer than intended...
Thanks Doug for telling us the story of Trinity.......any friend of Dilinger it's fab by me.......never heard of him before but now i have to check him out.......
Yeah him and Dillinger were lifelong friends...Trinity was pretty busy in the 70's, sooner or later you will run across him, maybe on a various artists comp or something...thanks for checking it out, best wishes...
Well done Doug. Its a shame that another reggae artist has passed on. I was reading a while back how Big Youth influenced a lot of reggae artists. I do believe that they mentioned Trinity as one of them. There it is. I was sure that you owned Three Piece Suit on vinyl. Sounds like Trinity was more into the loyalty and respect that he had with Yabby You over the payout itself. I am digging Chant Down Babylon Kingdom. The bass player is killer. Outstanding presentation to honor Trinity. Have a great rest of the week brother D~ Rob/Boston
Trinity was definitely influenced by the great Big Youth Rob...who is one of my very favourite deejays, I have been procrastinating but I should really do a video on him at some point...yes got to have Three Piece Suit in the collection, it is just a more modern repressing from the 2000's though. Plays reasonably well just the same. Yabby You had a lot of respect from the musicians and artists, many of whom wanted to work with him even though he had limited resources and could not pay much. They held him in high regard as someone with a clear musical vision rather than one of the producers just recording songs strictly for profit. Glad you appreciated it Rob, thanks once again for tuning in and yet another thoughtful comment. Talk soon, cheers!
Peace Doug.... solid tribute. Nice reference/connection of "Three Piece Suit" and "Uptown Top Rankin"... I only knew the latter and was unaware of the original. I actually picked up one of the Yabby You releases on Pressure not too long ago... also have a number of 'dual deejay' pieces that were hyped under the guise of clash style releases. Respect for the presentation. Stay solid.
Thanks Pat...yes Uptown Top Ranking was an answer/response to Three Piece Suit, it actually started out as a one off special done for Mikey Dread I believe...I'll have the Pressure Sounds reissue of Conquering Lion in a future clip, that is my most recent pickup from them...sprang for a silkscreen edition for the first time...expensive but worth it for that album I think. The clash thing was kind of a way to put out a split release and at the same time hype some artists on the rise, Channel One did a series of "Showdown" LP's in the early 80's but also in the dub format you had albums like King Tubby Meets The Upsetter...supposedly just a way to market a side each of tracks from both men on the same LP, no intention of any real "clash" whatsoever. Thanks for tuning in, take care!
As soon as you did the needle-drop of Three Piece Suit I had to immediately pause the video and wrack my brains trying to remember where I'd heard it before.....I managed to dredge Anthea & Donna out of my brain just in the nick of time before resuming! I once played keyboards in a ropey ska band which used to do a version of Up Town Top Ranking so that tune is incredibly familiar to me (also the one which knocked Mull of Kintyre off the number 1 slot on the UK charts as I believe I may have mentioned before, bah!). I love the idea of 'slack lyrical content', great example of a euphemism. Nice spotlight Doug, I had never heard of Trinity though as usual a lot of the surrounding names were familiar.
I remember you mentioning that bad memory of Uptown Top Ranking and later playing it in a band! It was an answer record to Trinity's earlier hit which is not quite so well known though a big hit in the reggae world. He's one of those artists who were quite prolific in the 70's, you are bound to run into him sooner or later. "Slack" or "slackness" is shorthand for sex themed lyrics. Cheers James!
@@FatCityVinyl Sorry, I do tend to repeat the same stories and anecdotes over and over again. The problem is I never quite remember which stories I've told to which people. I should keep a journal.
Cheers! A lot of great tunes by him, it is hard sometimes to sum up these guys' careers in one video - so I approached it here like several videos in one...thanks for watching, appreciated!
I learned a lot from your video. I knew most of the people that you mentioned and I have some music by Alton Ellis and The Mighty Diamonds, but I did not know anything about Trinity (Wade Brammer). Thanks for providing a nice snapshot of his recording career. Cheers.
Appreciate you watching! He's one of those artists who are a bit difficult to encapsulate as he recorded so prolifically and had many different phases or aspects of his career. Only a very small representation of his work here, but hopefully enough to do the job properly. Cheers!
RIP TRINITY...AS ALWAYS DOUG..U MAKE ME DIG INNA ME CRATES DEM..🎶🎼🎼🎤🎵🎵😎🎵🎵🎤🎼🎶
Keep digging my friend! Supposed to be a posthumous Trinity album coming out, I hear…take care, cheers ✌️
Nice presentation of the Big Trinity aka Jr. Brammer with so much extra Infos💥🎶💥 thx a lot 🙏
Much appreciated my friend, cheers for tuning in!
Thanks a lot, great tribute for one of the best 💥
Indeed he was, much appreciated 🙏
I love how they got so many songs out of one riddim.
Part creative ingenuity, part penny pinching to make each track recorded pay off as much as possible for the cash invested!
Tracking down old rocksteady samples is a huge but equally fun rabbit hole to travel down
It's never ending! There's always something new to discover about Jamaican music and so often it is based on something that came before...
Very informative thanks! Loved Trinity guesting on Gregory Issacs' "My Number One" song.
I love that one too! Only have it on CD though...was thinking about playing it in the video. Thanks for watching, cheers 🙏

Another great lesson. You really are great at this. Cheers!

@@jamesgriffithsmusic No worries, I do the same - I’ve probably repeated the same comments a number of times now...
Great history lesson Doug! Very informative! I'm not fimilar with Trinity, but I've heard one of the songs that you played before. Great stuff!👍
