Death has to be the greatest non-regular character on the series. Every episode is a treat he's in is a treat. Brilliant ACTOR. If you've ever seen the horror movie Wrong Turn, he played the inbred freak 3 Fingers.
I *HATED* Wrong Turn … freaked me the fuck out for some reason. However, I love the actor of Death too. He had a small role in she show Orphan Black (don’t remember which season though), and I was so pleased to see him there.

That should give you the idea of just how powerful and scary Death is. Dean has talked so much smack to Demons, Angels, Archangels, and even talked down to God himself (even though he hasn't met him) but with Death, Dean was TERRIFIED and was trying so hard to not upset him
Oh yeah, he has no fear or respect for Archangels, the most powerful beings in the Universe (beside God). He is that powerful.

Death's conversation with Dean is honestly one of the best scenes in all of supernatural. CHILLS, fucking CHILLS EVERY TIME
I was gobsmacked seeing Dean being legitimately scared for the first time. He doesn't run his mouth, makes no rude, disrespectful or snarky comments and basically just sits there like a little kid who got sent to the principal.

My 2nd to that is when they figure out Gabriel is an archangel and trap him in that warehouse and they argue about how it’s just a family squabble. They are both such heavy short scenes that I can’t forget.

I'd put Death's entrance on the 'in all of TV' category. Music, camera, actor, vibe, everything just fits together for a perfect bone chilling scene.
I'd also add Raphael to that list
Thank you Davion for acknowledging the fact that it was Dean that made Cas change. Dean being Dean is pretty much the entire reason why Cas does anything for the entire series. (And yes, most of us would use the term love to describe what changed in Cas for him to remain loyal to Dean. Falling in love would be/is the best description of the past, current, and future events for Cas.)

Death is such an awesome character that carries a heavy presence around him. The fact that even Dean is scared of him is telling enough.
Casting really nailed it getting the perfect actors to play the heavy hitting supernatural characters like Castiel, Death, Anna, Crowley, Lucifer, and Azazel.
death entrance scene is so good maybe even the best ever, and the actor omg so good everything he says you feel the weight of every word its chilling and exciting every time. one of the best charaters for sure
Yeah Julian is great + Crowley knew that Death was at the pizza place all along he just wanted to throw Dean off track.
He really brought his A game to a CW show & we all gotta thank him for it
And there we have it, _irrefutable_ evidence that Ben is *not* Dean's son.
If Ben were Dean's son he'd be a viable vessel (like Claire was for Castiel) the angels could easily use Ben to get Dean to say 'yes'
But they don't, why?
Because Ben is not of Dean's/John's/etc bloodline. He is not Dean's son & thus not a viable vessel for Michael. Which is why they're forced to resort to bringing Adam back to life.
Oh man, it must be so terrifying for Cas. To go from a cosmic entity to so incredibly breakable.

Here it is. Only two episodes left. Gotta say, these past few episodes of S5, even the whole season, have been fabulous.
Damn, Cas really forcefully took the ring from Pestilence's finger, with his awesome self.
That whole Crowley and Bobby kiss exchange situation was definitely the funniest part of this episode. He really got exposed lol.
At least Sam is finally agreeing with Dean that he can't handle fighting Lucifer, even if he is their only fighting chance.
Death's entrance is still one of the most badass parts of this show, to this day. Perfect actor, perfect song, perfect performance. Excellent.
Nice of Crowley to give Bobby his legs back, for a demon. You don't see acts like that every day.
It only makes sense that Michael and the angels would choose to use Adam instead of Dean. Not like they have much of a choice if they want to win this battle.
I swear, every time Sam needs to put himself up to bat in any situation, it's always got something to do with demon blood. In this case, gallons of it. Unbelievable. Poor moose.
That Dean and Death scene was fantastic. Really intimidating and chilling, but fantastic.
Of course Lucifer has Death bound to himself. As if he isn't powerful enough.
I guess Death is the only rational Horseman out of all his brothers, since he willingly gave Dean his ring, without any violence involved.
When it comes to Dean, and letting anything happen as long as Lucifer gets trapped, even if it comes to Sam, you know there's a lie in there somewhere. He never just lets him die.
Pretty cool to see the rings merge into the key to Lucifer's cage.
Bobby spoke the truth in the end there. "What exactly are you afraid of? Losing, or losing your brother?" I felt that.
Well, this is it. The penultimate episode of S5, which is undoubtedly my favorite season of the show. And next we got the finale, which I absolutely love, in every which way.

Death has the coolest intro of the show, hands down. He is the definition of Neutrality. He only gets involved when someone's time is up. The only reason he was killing people now was because Lucifer was making him.
Funny thing is that’s mark Shepherds actual phone (Crowley) and he still has that picture today
Death’s entrance is probably my favorite character entrance of any show I’ve watched.
Even tho Eric Kripke left as showrunner after Season 5, he stayed on as an executive consultant for the remaining seasons through season 15. So he didn't completely leave them high and dry
About your question whether they switch writers - they sure do, and they all have different agendas 😂 They've been switching writers in S1-5 too, Kripke was the lead writer of the arc, guiding the overall storyline, but there'd be other lead writers episode to episode. Some better than others ;)
Death's appearance and composure is top tier badass acting! Talk about being scolded by The Entity of finality.

The reason Season 5 was suppose to be the end is supposedly Eric Kripke wrote season one as the brothers trying to find their dad as well as the 'monster of the week' style episodes. It went well and the network wanted more so Kripke wrote seasons 2-5 all together and wanted to end it there because he had other shows he wanted to write and work on. Once Supernatural got renewed again for season 6 he handed it over and moved on, while some seasons you can definitely tell were different writers the show remained good. But yes, arguably season 5 was the best and most consistent season of the series. (To be fair, it would be hard to keep topping this season though for 10 more years)

just the fact that Death can give someone the absolute chills while talking in a calm, normal tone of voice and enjoying the very same food that mortal humans eat is what makes him a top fan favorite. not to mention that epic introduction.
YES!!! Death’s intro and Cas’s intro ARE THE BEST!!! Love this episode and CANNOT WAIT for finale. Season 5 finale is MY FAVORITE Supernatural episode of all time. I know I’m not alone in that either lol

God, that line is just so damn cold. One of the things I love about Supernatural is how we get such fascinating takes on such established figures. I think out of all media, Supernatural has my favorite portrayals of both Lucifer and Death. They're just...amazing.

And Death, what a brilliant fucking character. He is so badass. The actor, Julian Richings, is so amazing every scene with him is so engaging. We really feel the power of the character from his portrayal. He is also one of the few characters even Dean just don't fuck with and shows the deserved respect. Death is hands down one of the best non-recurring characters from the show.

I swear Sam and STD has become synonymous since he ends up getting his third STD of the season lol. Poor baby.
Name a better quintet than Sam, Dean, Bobby, Castiel, and Crowley? You can't because one doesn't exist. Seeing all of them in one room together, which I don't believe happens again, with different personalities intermingling was comedy gold. But Crowley showing he has a bit of a soft spot for Team Free Will, since Bobby can walk again because of him.
I know Castiel's introduction has been said to be the best character introduction on the show, and from a theatrical standpoint it is, but I think Death's introduction takes that title. It's simplistic, but him dropping that guy by simply brushing his shoulder off...chills. Plus, he pulled up to a song about him. Goated. And his conversation with Dean? Intense. You can tell that Dean was trying not to be a smartass, but then again, who would sass Death?
I always thought Bobby's question to Dean about whether he was afraid of losing or afraid of losing his brother was stupid. And on the surface, it is because obviously Dean would be afraid of losing his brother. However, digging a little deeper, it's not so stupid and it's not so black and white. In both scenarios, Dean loses Sam. If they win, Sam is gone forever, but the world is saved and I'm sure as painful as it would be for Dean to lose Sam, I'm sure it would be a relief to him to know that billions of people would still be alive. On the other hand, if they lose, Sam once again is gone forever, but that means Lucifer would burn the world down and once again, painful for Dean to lose Sam, but equally as painful knowing that billions of people would die. So, Bobby's question was good to ask knowing how Dean is, but I'm sure difficult for Dean to answer.
There was also a supernatural Anime that was only one season. I never watched it cause I always forget about it. And I love how like you are have the CW watching going “huh we can make a video game and get even more money”

Idk if I was hearing it right that you guys were calling the horsemen demons but just wanted to clear it up just in case. They are not demons. Especially not Death. Their origins are not specified but for Death, he said so himself that he is as old, maybe even older, than God. So this makes him older than Lucifer, who was the one who created demons (first one being Lilith). We don’t know how old the other three are but they’re not demons either. The horsemen are the personification of destruction of the Apocalypse.

honestly through the finales u can kinda see how they only had 5 seasons originally cuz they all are very cohesive to the story. s1 finale they find yellow eyes and they essentially beat him, s2 sam dies and they open the gates of hell, s3 dean dies, goes to hell and consequently starts the breaking of the seals, s4 Lucifer rises and s5 is the apocalypse
The story wasn't all planned out though. At first the "special children" plot was supposed to last at least until s3, but Kripke (and I _quote_ ) got "tired" of them & decided to kill them off.
Then s3 Sam was supposed to _accept_ Ruby's help & build up his demon powers, saving Dean in the finale (but the writers strike happened)
Kripke was *firmly* against angels, he wanted SPN to be a grounded show of simple men alone in a fight against evil, no confirmation of the existence God/angels/Heaven. But they needed to get Dean out of hell somehow & so he relented & said "fine, angels. _But,_ they're dicks"
S1-5 _seem_ to be a single storyline planned out from the beginning but its not, the writing team/Kripke were just _that good_ at rolling with the punches

Matt Frewer is the guy who played Pestilence & he was nominated for an award for this role....guest appearance in a drama series. LOL! Death's entrance was better than Cass'. And the conversation between him & Dean was fantastic! such great writing!! Dean was shitting in his pants. Julian Richings, Death, was amazing!!!! Detroit style pizza is better. I love watching you young guys having so much fun! You put a smile on this old lady's face. 👵❤☮
