- Using three different pipes, I tried to review the new Captain Black Platinum blend for the first time. I compared it to Captain Black Royal…which I tried about 2 years ago.

Have fun in Italy. I shall expect a postcard…in lieu of sausage (ooer, matron!). I’ve been doing a tour of Italy in my living room, jogging on the spot whilst watching some of the wonderful YT walking videos. It’s not doing much for my carpet, but it’s keeping me fit!
My dear Julie 😄😄 You always make me laugh in your comments…😉 In my tiny library room..I go all over time and the universe…with help of UA-cam and my overactive and hungry imagination and…my Tardis…if course. It doesn’t keep me slim enough…as I like to eat 🥩 and drink 🍷 too much…I thought pipe smoking would be an appetite suppressant…but only after dinner unfortunately 😆 cheers 🥃 😉

A library? How wonderful. My house is full of books, so much so that we have had to implement a strict* ‘one in, one out’ policy for the last few years. Most of my recent fiction has now migrated to kindle, but I’m starting to worry that I’ve reached peak non-fiction capacity. It’s enough to give a minimalist ptsd.
*I say strict, obviously this only applies to Mr Worm’s sci-fi collection 😉

Yes my’ol Mike😊😊..I realize some think Captn Black is chemical junk…but…a lot of people love it and rate it as decent tobacco. Certainly, the Platinum is a step away from heavy topping and maybe will win over some of the Captn Black critics…lets see 😄🤔😉
Another great video I smoke royal as my everyday smoke. I really enjoy it and also love sir Walter Raleigh.

Enjoyed your review. Looking forward to trying the new platinum. The pouch is NOT yet in our drug stores here in Ga. Guess I’ll have to just mail order some. I normally smoke rlp6 which is the bulk of original Capt Black.

You touched on something that I have observed, and others have commented on: the change over time with the tobacco blends by the producer (change of ownership). Always interesting how something that gives the impression of being timeless, is so much in flux over time.
Thats very true Chuck 😊 …Even 50 year old blends have changed more than once...under their new manufacturer…in a way...it makes interesting to note these changes, sometime good…sometimes bad…depending on your individual tastes 😋😉

Evening Lester, quality in depth and inserting review, thank you for that. Glad you mentioned the water drops in the jar I did that today whilst jarring some tobacco up and wondered if I was doing the right thing have a great week 😊
I use boiling water to sterilize may jars, pour it out and add the tobacco…but…some drops of water are in the jars…never had a problem. When I open the jar…I touch the tobacco to feel if it needs a dry…or…not before loading my pipe 😉
My wife is loving that pipe! She loves that color blue! I used to smoke Captain Black white and gold some years ago. Haven’t tried the new one.
I appreciate your wife’s comment😊👍👍…I love this astronomical painted cob…I smoke it when I use my telescope🔭 😄 The new CB Platinum is very enjoyable at a gentle tempo…quite different from the old CBs 😉 💨💨💨

Love the smell of Captain Black and the review. I watched it a few nights ago. May have to purchase Captain Black Royal just for the smell. Again, loved the video as I did Smokeless Measured Breathing with my Country Gentleman cob. It was all very relaxing. Hiyas Lester, I have an ancient history with Captain Black. Back in the mists of time, before the wheel; a former girlfriend did NOT like the aroma coming off my Rattray's Black Mallory tobacco. Well, i assessed the situation and decided to go with Captain Black. She liked the aroma and i disliked the flavor profile. But, one does what one must...... Eventually, she moved on and i sent what i had left of the Captain, to a watery grave 🚽!! I've not had any since.

Gary, …the funny thing…in pipe smoking…is you maybe try an old blend…that you hated…and…you suddenly…you like it 😲😲 the second time around. The taste on your tongue is…so dynamic…and…over time….we learn techniques to enjoy…almost any blend. Girlfriends come and go….but….pipe tobacco…is on your side 😄😊😉💨💨💨

I always keep a jar of CB Royal. It is good and comforting. It is not 1Q, it is better.
I totally agree Robert😊👍👍…the topping is more complex…not just vanilla like 1-Q…Royal has liqueur, vanilla, cocoa and chocolate on top. Its more flavourful than Carter Hall and SWRA too since they moved production to the Dominican Rep. I wonder if CB is made in Denmark rather than the DR 🤔

Thanks for the reviews and comparison, Lester! I love codger blends, SWR is probably my favourite. I regret not buying a pouch of CB Royal in Greecd last year, I was a bit put off by my experience with CB Regular…a nice blend but not really my thing. I do agree about SWR Aromatic, shat a wonderful blend it is, maybe my favourite aro of all. Not sure which version I have tried though.

@Redcoat‘s Return that's just what he was after, i thought of him when you said it! I'm more into stronger, heavier blended stuff, I force myself to aro in the cobs... regret buying em mostly, as you say a bit light but some can bite with the best of em. The last of the smaller particles of Sutliff Revelation match burned with zero bite but it was in a system pipe...! Loved the taste no matter but I did feel the bite next day when the bag was fresh. Worth it!

This was a very interesting comparison about two tobaccos which are unknown for me.
I think both of them are not my taste. I think I will have the same problems with the Platinum like you.
Do you know form Vauen the "Grandpa's Blend"? If you like Caramel I think this will be a very good choice for you my friend.

I like their Gold blend the most, it isn't bitey but still has a pleasant taste and aroma. What's your opinion on it?
I’ll have to try CB Gold…sounds good…I’ll order a pouch 😉 If you love vanilla…try CB Dark…its the most powerful vanilla blend I know 😄😉
@@RedcoatsReturn I've tried it once out of curiosity, it's a really solid blend, but nothing tops gold for me. Guess that's a personal taste of mine. On an unrelated note, it's been getting harder and harder to find any pipe tobacco at brick&mortar retail, over the last four or so years the amount of weak rolling blends and chemical-soaked hookah junk increased and supply of pipe tobacco of all sorts decreased, to the point I'm lucky if I find any for sale at all.
