@@randallsimmons391 That's an interesting way to dance around it. In real terms, it absolutely does grant rights.
But by your logic, it doesn't really protect the right to vote for all citizens either. It just says that the states can't discriminate against people for certain reasons. It doesn't require that the states allow us to vote at all.

    • @randallsimmons391

@@lordmeandor2328 Show me a right that the Constitution grants. There is not one. The presumption when drafting the Constitution was that these rights already exist and certain ones need protection from an ever present, authoritarian government.
You are right in that the Constitution does not protect the right to vote per se, but it does protect aspects of the existing right to vote. But these are for citizens, as the founding fathers envisioned. It does, however, dictate that each State mandates how voting is to be conducted.

    • @lordmeandor2328

@@randallsimmons391 you're operating from a basis of text, and not how things operate in reality. While you may like to pretend that the Constitution doesn't grant rights, in real terms it absolutely does.
The Constitution is what makes these rights enforceable and REAL. Without the framework it creates, no such rights would actually exist.

I came to the U.S. legally, pursued my education, earned a PhD, and followed the process to apply for a green card and eventually citizenship. Now, as a proud U.S. citizen, I cannot support policies that aim to undermine our country by keeping the Southern border open. Illegal immigration has become an issue, and yet some Democrats want to eliminate voter ID requirements, potentially allowing non-citizens to vote in our elections. It took me 10 years to become a citizen by following the proper legal steps, and I believe in respecting the law.

    • @michaeltillotson3711
      @michaeltillotson3711 5 днів тому

The issue is that the law on the border is being followed. So not sure what your issue is. Dems and some repubs attempted to change the law, but Trump blocked it so he could campaign on the issue. And some people believe in one of our founding principles of no taxation without representation. So non citizens sous be able to vote in state and local elections

Thing is permanent residents don't just "sit there". They pay taxes and contribute to society. Why shouldn't they get a say in how their taxes are spent? Our country was founded on the very issue of taxation without representation, so I don't really understand why so many are against them voting. They are the modern example of that very issue (along with American citizens who live in American territories, who somehow have less federal rights than Americans living abroad in other countries).

If I decide to vote for people who don't have the USAs best interests then leave, it will be the citizens who have to deal with the repercussions. I believe in citizens only vote as they have a greater vested interest in the country and it's success and prosperity.

@@Truetoself3838 that situation is no different than an American citizen who chooses to go elsewhere after voting. Your scenario is a distinction without a difference.
People who choose to set up residency here are MORE law abiding than native born citizens. I'd wager they have more vested interest than native born citizens by virtue of the fact that they consciously chose to come here and had to jump through many hoops. It means more to them, so your hypothetical scenario really carries very little weight.

The answer is no, because they are not part of your family. Only if you adopt them would they be granted the same rights. Of course, this is not true. It is not common, but there absolutely are countries where non-citizen residents can vote - New Zealand, Chile, and Uruguay are just a few examples.
"Would you give a neighbor's child or a foster child the same rights as your own children? The answer is no, because they are not part of your family."
Poor analogy. But yes, I would. If they were living in my home and behaving, why the hell wouldn't I? Don't ask a question you don't know the answer to mike, you might just prove yourself wrong with the premise of the question. Not everyone thinks the same way you do.
"Let’s be honest: Would you distribute your wealth equally between your children and your neighbor's children just because they mow your lawn or clean your sidewalk? Again, the answer is no."
Again, you are well versed in the art of poor analogies. Someone working on my lawn is paying taxes and earning their living, and deserving of all that entails. A family is not a society - you seem to think it's a pertinent analogy. It isn't.

Thing is permanent residents pay taxes and contribute to society.

Boy is she spot on! Civics is so important, yet most Americans have no idea who represents them in government. They are so un-educated.They have no idea what government is supposed to do (protect and serve up personal security). However when government oversteps their charter the citizens have no concept of protesting and putting government policies back in the jack-in-the-box they horribly sprang from. Worse yet they give up their freedom for the perception of false benefits. FIGHT! Let’s change Election Day to the same day taxes are due April 15. You want to know what a government program costs you; look to your taxes due.

Great video. My story is similar. I was born in West Germany in 1953. My father never married my mother. In 1958, my mother married an officer stationed in an American base in my birth city. He was from Puerto Rico, but still and American citizen. My mother and I received green cards. When I turned 18, I requested citizenship and it was awarded. My mother stayed with her green card until her death. Thirty years later, after my divorce from my first US citizen wife, I met a Colombian lady who had come to the US legally on a work visa. We married some time later and then went trough a grueling three year process with INS in both Philadelphia and Baltimore. The grilling and the amount of evidence and information needed was overwhelming. Finally my wife’s citizenship was approved, but she still had to study and pass an exam. Today we ask ourselves, why did we have to go through this if the US government lets anyone in with no questions asked. Why did my wife spend a year trying to get a visa to enter legally and why the three years of processing her citizenship request. Now we are also talking about giving voting rights to Illegal aliens. Yes ILLEGAL ALIENS. My wife was not an illegal alien. Is this how democrats value citizenship? This obviously shows that it no longer is about the country or any patriotic feelings. It is about a globalist agenda that restricts free speech, censures those who dissent, illegal in migration, budget deficits, endless debt, military spending, wars, out of control crime, persecution of Christian’s, killing millions of babies through abortion, using law fare to prosecute political opponents, supporting terrorists etc. Need any more reasons to throw out the democrats? I left the US nine years ago, when Obama was beginning the destruction of the country. Sorry for those that still have to live with this. The US is no longer the freest country in the world, it is no longer safe, crime in the cities is rampant (I cannot see myself to return to any of the cities where I lived before, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Northern Virginia, Richmond, VA and Miami). The US everyday looks more like authoritarian regimes around the world. By the way, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand are not any better. I support Trump, but I do not believe that he can change the imbedded deep state globalists.

She used the same analogy I've been using, I'm sure I can't take credit for but it makes the most sense, America is our home, we are invested in it, as far as all these people that have recently flooded our country, I'm sure when they were back home they never would let or agree with any of us U.S. citizen to weigh in on any decision making in their country, it's really just common sense. "You wouldn't let your neighbor weigh in on your family budget, but you might invite them over for dinner" 👍🙏

Lack of citizenship means lack of “skin” in the national “game”.
