I totally get what you mean! I majored in fashion merchandising and got SO much shit from people talking down on it and acting like it was a joke of a major but it was 100% the right decision. I ended up landing a full time job in NYC within two months of graduation and couldn't be happier!! Always follow your passions and it'll lead you where you're meant to be!

I’m glad that you’ve chosen a major you want to do and genuinely feel passionate about! Everyone always has opinions on something. Whatever major someone chooses, people will say “oh that’s useless” or “that’s easy” or like “how will you get a job”. It makes me mad that people don’t mind their own business. I’d rather study something i’m passionate about and will do well in, instead of being pressured into doing something that will please other people. Anyway thx for coming to my ted talk

i really felt this, i pressured myself to try to get into law school just because it’s a well paid profession, two days before the school applications closed i said “you know what fuck this” and i chose another major which i thinks it’s right for me
i totally agree with you. I had people ask me if i chose my major because it was easy. i had to tell them 1. no i didn't choose the easy route, i chose the route I love and 2. just because you're studying what you love, that doesn't mean it's easy.
kc I agree, like yeah obviously you should have a rough idea with what you can do with your degree but you shouldn’t let people tell you to change your subject because “it doesn’t have a lot of jobs” or whatever. You want to do psychology- do psychology, if you want to do journalism- do journalism, etc. At the end of the day, you don’t want to do a degree in something you don’t like for years as that’s just going to make you miserable. Also, idk if Hannah will even see this (probably not) but marketing is actually a really good degree to get and a lot of places ask for marketing.
I feel that rant DEEP in my soul when people tell me being a psychology major will get me nowhere

I’m a junior in college and my majors business admin with sales management! I took 18 credits the past 4 semesters and can graduate a semester early now! If I were you I’d take 2 summer courses and 5 classes next semester! It saves you a ton of money and time :) it’s saving me $26k 😭 you’re doing great girl keep working hard 💓

I get why people advise us to go here and not there, "oh you'll be unemployed if you go there" but at the end of the day, it's my life and I'm going to choose what I like, what I want, what makes me happy and it might not be the ideal job or area for you but it is for me and that's what matters. My family can be very judgemental but the type of "looking out for me" and they keep saying that I should change my major because it won't do me good but you literally have inspired me to be confident in my decisions and it's okay if I make mistakes. Thank you so much❤️

really needed that rant, i’m a senior in high school trying to decide what to do. i just changed my mind on both school and major after already committing, and i have so many people trying to tell me what to do, that it just stresses me out. you saying that it’s what you want to do for the rest of your life really opened my eyes to make the decision i want to, and not what others want me to.

I’m honestly si proud of you changing majors, I was about to be a law student because that’s what my family wanted for me and that could get me a good job but I wanted to study film and my mom (being the angel that she is) pursue me to study whatever I wanted as long as I’m happy and... I’m 2/3.5 years done

that's so funny bc whenever I tell people I'm a marketing major they tell me how awesome that is, how jobs are everywhere, and that I'm gonna make so much money!! I've never once been told something negative! It's so much fun you'll love it! I HIGHLY recommend taking some sort of graphic design class with all your flexibility now- it compliments marketing extremely well and is genuinely one of my favorite classes I've ever taken!!

As an Accounting major whose goal is to go to law school to study Corporate Law, I 100% relate to people discouraging me about my major choice! Accounting is such a versatile degree and it will help me in law school, so please stop telling me to take poly sci or criminal justice😤
Im an accounting major too and there’s literally so many things you can do with an accounting degree and one of them is to go to law school so I think you’ll be just fine
You can major in just about anything for law school! People should be more well informed lol

I know school stuffs could be really draining but u inspires me to go on and don't stop. So thank you for being so raw and real and i love u!
i SO needed to hear this. im a senior in high school and i went from being interested in law to social work to nursing and i hated that i would question myself and ask and assure myself that this is what i wanted. turns out, IT WASNT! and just like you I talked to people who tried to tell me what field I’d be good in and then i looked into psychology which is something I’ve always been interested in, I found a career that always looked cool to me seeing that I’m around the people who are in that field as they have helped me through my high school career. when I told myself this could be what I want I looked at the classes I would be taking and now I’m actually excited to go to college! people would tell me they could see me being an ultrasound tech or an accountant and being the person I am who listens to people’s feedback I looked into them and it didn’t interest me AT ALL. since I decided on going into psych I haven’t questioned myself one bit, I haven’t had the urge/want to look into any other careers, etc. your rant gave me the reassurance that what I did was the right thing and I’m so glad you finally found your calling! ❤️ sorry not sorry this is long 🤣

I majored in Communications (concentration in Marketing) in college. I just entered my 5th year in a job using my degree and I absolutely love the work that I do. Is the money great? Not really, but money isn't everything. I go home every day feeling fulfilled and that's what's most important. I think you're doing the right thing!
I needed to hear this. I graduate in May and I will have my nursing license. I want to do emergency medicine but I honestly feel stupid telling people that because everyone has their own opinion about starting in a specialty as a new grad... but I think I'm just going to go for it! It will be hard but I want to save lives!

I was actuallt repeated asking advice to Anyone who I knew that a minimum knowledge on university courses and subsequent career options, ask them to advise me. They always said this or that based on what are my current study subjects and what I like but the choices they suggested did seem cool and aligned with my subjects I liked the most....BUT THAT DIDNT FIRE MEEEEEEE. Soooo after some time pondering over things I FINALLY decided to choose courses I WANTED, and many still telling me there are 'better' options out there, including my mom (though she's a love, trying her best not to force me for anything, keeps telling me its all up to me and I should do what I want/like) like....I get it, they only want the best for me BUT I DONT WANNAAAAAAAA 🙂🙃🤦🏻♀️ So now me paving my own way (though the insecure part of me made me check ALL the career options available if the one I wanted didnt work as planned🙃) but whatever. So ya, hearing another say that they're in the same place too, and actually enjoying it so much,plus all the motivating things u said....UR A STAAAAAAAAAAR. Not to sound creepy or anything, I SERIOUSLY LOVE U.....and u got me ranting😁 so her ends my paragraph. Thx though for ur amazing work🌠🌌💙

Girl, I totally relate. This semester i went to one week of my journalism classes, hated all of them and dropped all of them and switched my major to English, something I’m actually passionate about. You really have to do what you love, second semester junior here too. And now I get to graduate a semester early! Best of luck!!

That rant... INSPIRING. I’m an art major, specifically graphic design, and I’ve had tons of people shit on me for going into an art career and yk what, IDC. It’s my dream to have a creative career. You have to make sure you are happy with your career because at the end of the day, you are the one that is going to be doing it, not the people telling you not to do it. As long as you are happy and can support yourself, who cares what anyone else thinks!
Who in the world told you that Marketing wouldn't make you money? It definitely will!! There are so many skills in Marketing that businesses are looking for! You got this girl!
as my mom says do what u think makes u happy cause at the end of the day youre the one thats gonna be spending the rest of your life doing it. that if picturing yourself 10 years from now and youre not happy doing it then dont. marketing is a GREAT degree and it has money in it people just dont see the scope of it. i did business management and tech for 2 years and it was honestly great, now im doing marine engineering and everyone asks me why i jumped from business to science, why didnt i just continue, why am i wasting my time and one set of bs. but its what i wanted i had the support of my parents i didnt care who said what cause in the end its my stress. and itll work perfect together. and i couldnt be more happier doing it.. knowing that i can apply my business studies to my current ones.

I believe you are very fortunate to have parents that support you of changing your major 3 times. Also, you live in a first world country so you have the possibilities.
In my case, I wanted to be a marine biologist but my parents didn't support my decision and since they are the ones paying, they choose me an "easy" major which is Communications. I'm from Mexico and we don't have this opportunities to be changing a major. So I just wanted to say be grateful and I wish you all the best. 💕

I related to your “rant” so much. I’m a sophomore doing a double major with music performance on violin and psychology. When I first got to college I wasn’t sure that I should pick those majors because everybody told me that music degrees are useless. Even my parents tried to convince me that I should go into music education or accounting so that I can have a stable job. But it is not what I want to do. I want to preform and I want to learn about human psychology! I will find a way to make it work for me and this video really made me more hopeful. I don’t think I’ve ever related to something more so thank you.

I think the worst thing about college is going into it and having literally EVERYONE tell you what to major in because major A gets you a more stable career than major B. But it's so much more important to find the one you enjoy, because if you enjoy studying something there's a good chance you'll be pretty good at it and if you're really good at something you'll get a job, too. I also changed my major and changed universities and it's the best thing I could've done. Cause knowing what you don't want to do is almost more important than knowing what you want to do. Idk that was a bit of a rant, but I felt like I needed to say that :'D So yea, I'm with you Hannah, do shit you like. Cause you're a real one and I am too :D

You’re so lucky you can change your degree like that. We don’t really have major/minor here in the uk. You can only study the course you applied for (no other classes ‘for fun’). I wanted to change my degree from joint honours and I missed the dead line by a week (you only get 2 weeks after starting I think). So we were really hoping they’d be a major/minor decision coming in but the uni decided against it
My first quarter at college I thought I wanted to be an anth major and I took a anth class and I hated it. Now I’m a history education major WHICH IS LITERALLY WHAT I WANTED TO BE WHEN I WAS 7. So I feel you on that.

You are so lucky u go to college in the us and u get into college and then decide what major do u want and u can even change ur major. I live in Greece and here we are supposed to know what we want when we are 17 or 18 and once we choose that we cannot change. Like if u want to change major you have to give exams AGAIN and the prep for those exams are like 2 years.
I always watch everyone's videos a few days after they post, but I saw the countdown on Instagram and was like... not today. Once again, you did not disappoint. :)
