Her Rapture CD is a complete masterpiece... not a bad song on it...production and musicians are all first class....still play that album a few times a year since it came out.
Way back in the 80's I bought my folks a CD player for Xmas, I got my mum Rapture and when she opened it she not only had no idea who Anita Baker was but had no idea what a CD was (she thought it was something that you put on a wall😊) She certainly knew who she was once played and a couple of years later I took her and my partner to see her live. She loved it and Rapture is still being played by her.
Toni Braxton was a huge fan of Anita's singing. Anita was successful a decade before Toni. Anita Baker's heyday was the 1980s/1990s. She is ranked as having one of the most unique voices in R&B - she is up there with Sade and Whitney Houston.Every song Anita has ever made is classic . Check out Caught up in the rapture.
NOBODY sounds like Anita or even comes close. She sings so effortlessly... Sounds like chocolate covered velvet. Check out her Rapture CD, especially Caught up in the Rapture and Been So Long( my favorite).
I saw Toni Braxton live years ago and she told the story of how it was Anita Baker that convinced Babyface to use Toni Braxton for a song that was meant for her. Everything changed after that for Toni. Toni sang some of You Bring me Joy and I will tell you that yes there is no one like Anita but Toni’s voice does sound similar. But yeah, there is no one like Anita!!!
in fact that she is the one who gave Toni her first song to ever recorded by her. That's just the one of so many her merits in R&B. Truly The Queen of Quiet Storm.

She is amazing…so many great songs and performances by her. Check out “You Bring Me Joy”, “Sweet Love”, “Been So Long”, “Soul Inspiration”, “Fairytale”, “Lonely”.
Hometown Detroit Girl!!!❤ She's a sweetheart. I met her right before her album Rapture came out & she's the Best, truly humble. Back in 1992, Babyface wrote “Love Shoulda Brought You Home” for the Boomerang soundtrack. He sent it to Anita who was pregnant at the time and had to turn it down saying “Let the girl on the demo do it. She sounds good.” That girl was Toni Braxton. It’s a shame Toni never got to give Anita a proper tribute at big awards shows (her lupus was flaring up at the time). But there are some clips on UA-cam where Toni does “You Bring Me Joy,” thanking Anita for giving her her first single.
