I had forgotten about them doing this together. I remember seeing this live when this first aired. I'm proud of you Don for not gushing over Suzy this time
Great choice, Don! Excellent! Thank you for all the work you put into making these videos for us. Much appreciated! Love one another~stay safe~stay kind~stay humble.
These two long time friends will be touring together in 2022 as "Kathy Mattea & Suzy Bogguss Together at Last" We're expectingg to see shows appear on their schedules later this year. If they play near you, don't miss them.... they are so much fun together.
Great cover by these ladies who were HUGE in the 90s! Some of the best parts of the award shows in that decade were the times when the female artists would sing on each others' songs. I would check out Mary Chapin Carpenter doing "He Thinks He'll Keep Her" with Kathy, Suzy, Patty Loveless, and Trisha Yearwood then Pam Tillis doing "Cleopatra, Queen of Denial" with Suzy and Mary Chapin. Talk about a "who's who" group of backup singers.
Don, that was an excellent choice. Their voices blended so well. Suzy used to do "cowboy" songs. It's too bad we don't hear much from her now, as she would fit in with Colter Wall and other artists bringing western music back. Kathy's song, 14 Wheels and a Dozen Roses is also great. We used to see her on Ralph Emery's "Nashville Now" quite often. His show introduced a lot of famous stars, Randy Travis and Alan Jackson, for instance.
Love this song and both these women! Hey Don, posted your review of Older Ladies to my mailing list today. Fun! I subscribed to your channel, don’t always comment but always enjoy!
@donnalou Stevens Well that explains the influx of DonnaLou aficionados!! Thank you for posting it to your peeps, and it's an honor for me that you did that. And thank you for the kind words--you humble me, especially since I think you say what you're thinking and don't say what you're not. Ha! Stop by any time for any reason, and feel free to let the folks here know what you're up to whenever you're up to it. Cheers!
@@RockN2Country OMG, the review video is absolutely charming and fresh; how could I NOT share it. I was thrilled to send it out. Yes, I try not to mince words, yet at the same time I do my best to communicate with kindness. (Not anywhere perfect, but it's something I strive towards.) One of my core values is authenticity. Now that's a bit tricky, because I don't advocate saying what is on one's mind if it is coming from conditioned, mental activity and not the heart. Opinions, based on anything but personal experience, bore me to death. Personal experience I find fascinating. Words spoken from the heart are not even really opinions anymore, but personal truths. I find personal truth (at no on else's expense) enlivening. I will again refer to what I have seen you do thus far in your videos. They happen in real time. I don't see you thinking about what you will say. Your words are coming from your heart and what moves you about the song. That's why I think you have so many followers AND the fact that so far, when I've watched them, you always find what you like about the song. Thanks for making it fun. Here's a copy of the newsletter it was in. Later tater tot. mailchi.mp/donnaloustevens/requesting-your-creative-input
@donnalou stevens It's gonna take me some time to allow that to penetrate my soul and accept it, because what you just wrote is among the most complete (brain and heart) things ever written to me. I've had beautiful words said to and about me, and I've learned to take them to heart, but yours is on a different level. I'm in awe of your penetrating insight and no-nonsense ability and awareness. Wow. Just wow, And thank you. To be continued...
There are less talented ladies singing music today who have much more acclaim than what these two ladies deserve. Another country lady that I place in this category is Terri Clark. What a trio that would make!
This was pretty good actually. Maybe they were singing it because they liked it and weren't interested in changing it to make it their own or put their own stamp on it.
Somethings sound like such a great idea when you first hear about them. Like let's name a ship the Titanic! How about we put pickles on top of our pizza? And then you hear Kathy Mattea and Suzy Bogguss they're singing together one of the most beautiful songs you've ever heard in the world ever. Then they completely ruin it . Perhaps it was just bad audio but I thought it was awful.
@DaveG Really? I thought it sounded good, but perhaps the difference was I listen with headphones when reacting so the sound is always better than when I play it on my laptop. I thought they harmonized well together and captured the sense of the original, which can be tough to do with such an iconic song as this.
From my speakers it was missing the high harmonies. To me some of the low notes sounded flat and dull. Just hard to beat the original. I love Suzy and Kathy so it really pained me to say this but that's how I heard it.
@Mark Macdonald yeah Mark, I'll get right on that. In the mean time way to go showing the world how smart you are by taking a personal shot. Woo big man.

@Warren Burlingame A real gentleman only drools once, gushes once, blushes once, then does it again only a few hundred more times. Ha!
@@RockN2Country I'll have to borrow that

I remember reading that they were good friends. Sound great together
If Suzy is in your area I recommend going to see her perform live. She is a diamond in country music.
Thanks for sharing. These two ladies did a great cover. I agree, a stunningly good song.
Two lovely, talented ladies! Suzy is one of the most underrated singers ever! I can listen to her for hours!
Great cover! A message song that should always be handed down from generation to generation.
