I have a Question. Could you put a layer of a soft gel over the natural nail before you use hard gel to build an extension? I ask b/c I’ve heard people talk about doing this so that during removal you can file down to the soft gel layer & then soak off the rest...to protect the natural nail from over filing. I hope I’m making sense. 😆 I don’t know if the soft gel layer would be strong enough though to support an extension though...so I’d love your thought. Thanks so much!
I have taken Tracey’s advise from a biz talk from a while back, and that was to learn to do it all. I have realized that each client has a preference, and I want to be able to do it all. Thank you YN for great products, for awesome educational videos, and for great business advice!
I love this topic so much! When I went to school they taught us both acrylic and gel. Unfortunately I still struggle with acrylic but I am a gel master. I use both hard gel and soft gel for my clients. I am one of two nail techs in town that works with gel. I am constantly having to explain to clients the difference between soft gel, hard gel and acrylic.
I use YN Builder gel on short and active length nails all the time. I love the strength and also love that they never have to get soaked off. I also do a lot of gel polish manicures using two coats of base so that I can e-file it off, but every once in a while they still need to get soaked off, and for whatever reason, some clients like knowing that soaking off is an option. I am grateful for gels because I work in a salon that doesn't allow acrylic because of the odor. Love my Young Nails products!
Tracey taught me to do it ALL and it has served me so well in my business! 💯🙌💕 Sometimes the nail bed screams for acrylic and others are so nice all they need is hard gel. ☺️ I love being able to do both... I truly love working with both mediums!!
I was wondering about this too... I might not have checked enough online , but whenever I see Japanese nail enhancements, they seem fairly moderate in length? I know they definitely can do a certain amount though.
Just a note for anyone not familiar w/ Japanese or Korean products: The japanese soft gels (kokoist, leafgel, vetro, etc) used to sculpt extensions are actually known as “semi-hard” & still require that you use an efile or @ least hand file off the top layer before soaking.
Incredibly helpful! I’m a DIYer, and during lockdown, have been doing my sister’s nails. She keeps them short, but her nail tech was doing acrylic overlays. I did a gel overlay, and had trouble with it chipping. Small chips, only in the outer corners at the free edge, but it was getting frustrating. Now I realize I should be doing a soft gel overlay to accommodate her extremely thin, soft nails. She needs more flexibility in the gel rather than a “harder” overlay. I need to get your ManiQ in a pot and I’ll bet it’ll solve the problem. I always remind her that I’m not licensed and am only You Tube self-taught, and she should go back to her pro nail tech as soon as they are safely open for business. But I believe this video has helped me to understand what’s going on. I always do really careful nail prep, so I know the prep is correct. But her natural nails are really soft so I think I’ve been using the wrong product for her overlay. Thanks so much!
Hmm try acrylic. Thin soft nails don’t hold up with soft gel. In my opinion. My daughter has this problem. I’m currently testing Slick pour using caption base on her. I’m waiting for the “MUM!!!” One word tells me she has a problem 😂 but hopefully not. I’m still sure acrylic is the best for her though. Good luck. I hope it works for you though. Anything is worth a try 🤗
The key, I've found is to use a base layer of a flexible strong gel ie. Light elegance Jimmy gel, kokoist mega stick, luminary clarity and then use a less flexible it stronger medium on top. I've used gel and acrylic on top of the base gel layer.
I've actually used builder soft gel to build extensions and with proper structure they didnt break. I have also built the tip extension with hard gel and the body of the nail with builder soft gel. I think with soft gels it also depends on the brand and quality of the products. I did enjoy this video because many dont know the difference between hard and soft gels. Can you also do a video just on hard gels and the different products within it? For example some use light elegance and it's a "hard gel" but not one you would really use to build extensions. I find that there is also some confusion in the world of hard gels between builder, sculptor, and colored hard gels.
Thanks for your comment! When we were talking about soft gel in the video we meant more like gel polish but that’s awesome information for other people watching to know!❤️ we will let the team know about your suggestion as well😊🙌🏽
Not sure where you got your info but I have 3XL sculpted extensions using Light Elegance and I pinch them too. LE is perfect for extensions. I’ve used 1 Step, Fibre and builder with no issues. I would not however use a soft gel for the body of the nail. That’s just asking for trouble if any length is involved. I’ve been doing nails full time for 30 years and gel is way.....better now than in 1991 when I first used it in my course. I just laughed when Tracey described the way gel used to be. I cringed at the thought 😂
@@rachnailedit I clearly did not mention any of their builder or sculptor gels. I mentioned specifically their color hard gel, which is a completely different product they offer to illustrate the confusion some have with distinguishing the different types of hard gel and how they should be used. If you have been able to use their colored hard gel to build a nail extension, which again was the only product of theirs I mentioned, then that is great but not my experience. In addition they were provided as an example to help YN understand my request. This was not meant to become a discussion about another brand on their video because their products should be the focus.
@@youngnailsinc I’d LOVE a hard gel “difference” video as well…even as someone decently knowledgeable in the various types of sculpting products I find this area confusing
Young Nails is so helpful to educate us! I have been doing my own gel nail extensions for 9 months. I didn't know polygel had soak-able and file only versions, until I couldn't soak it away! And then I also realized I needed tradicional hard gel to build extensions, not the softer polygels I've been using. And now I've been in love with YN and all the content they share. 💚
@@kusumweb the jar, or tube of polygel should have written on the label somewhere "soak off ". You need to search for the brands, and then read reviews from others to know if it will truly soak off. I have not been able to soak off any of the brands I've purchased, though the tubes do not have soak off on their labels. You will need to file the polygel, probably will be faster than soaking. Because you will have to file the bulk of the nail Anyways, just to soak off the thin layer on nail.
I used your hard gel and made stilettos the full length of the form, they’re very strong and holding up awesome. My sidewalls are nice and tucked, no dip or ridge between cuticle, awesome c curve, near perfect apex placement, and shaaarp! Even my dentist was in love with them 😀
I was actually wondering the other day if it was possible to sculpt and build with ManiQ in a jar. You answered my question! Thank you for all of the info and advice you deliver on your channel. It’s always so helpful.
The only time I every use soft gel for an extension is with a gal that has I horrible chewing problem. She gets very short nails just for special occasions. I use soft gel because she has severe denting and the soft gel helps her to not be in pain if it grows out a little before she can get them removed.
I offer sculpted hard gel extensions and soft gel! Different clients have different needs and preferences. I have never learned acrylic because the odour gives me migraines and I find it hard to file. In my town (Montreal) most salons are doing cheap dips, MMA acrylic, "shellac" it's almost never actually CND shellac) and "bio gel" (which I just assume means hard gel overlay using Bio Sculpture gel or whatever knockoff version of that). It's always a nightmare trying to figure out what a client has on their nails because of all the different types and the wrong terms being used. I don't blame the clients of course, but at the same time I wish they would pay attention to what they are paying for.
I love both soft and hard gels but I def prefer soft. BUT when I do use hard gels, I use Young Nails synergy. I love build pink & gloss omggggg so shiny itś like glass! I used to be so afraid of flex because it moves so fast but now I love it! Also, you can totally use soft gel to extend. Lots of Japanese soft gels can be used for extending just like hard gels. I use Kokoist Excel Build over Mega Stick Base. If not that, Presto Sculpting Gel over Presto clear gel. Itś great, you can get the length you want and its so easy to soak off if need be. No matter what, my prep is ALWAYS the same. I use Young Nails Protein Bond after prep/before any enhancement!
In school we didn’t work with gel but I have recently been looking to learn to hard gels as an alternative to acrylic due to the smell mostly. Getting back into working after so many years off is definitely hard but I will learn hard gels so I can get “all the money” like Tracey said 🤣
Great video. You are so funny. I love you two. Great topic. You all help so many. You lift people up everyday. I don’t think you all know how much you have done for so many people. I love you all. Keep it up. I would love to work with people like you all. So much fun and love. Thank you again.
Ok so I'm new with everything except for regular polish lol so back in November I started dipping my nails and it's nice and all but the removal is a pain so I got some builder in bottle and I'm hoping to have better luck with removal
Great video. The down side to hard gel it must be filed off no amount of soaking is going to remove it but I love it because it don’t have that chemical monomer smell acrylics have. You can also use the hard gel to lay the foundation of the nail ( create the free edge) then build the apex with soft gel like Builder in a bottle or another soak off gel like light elegance
I’m a DIYer and belong to a lot of nail groups on facebook. Tracy discussed that soft gel is really not intended for extensions, but I have done and have seen a lot of other people build out their nails (not super long) with builder gel. Are you saying we shouldn’t use builder gel this way?
The more I watch the more I learn. Thank you!!!! I think I'll use the acrylic with gel overlay. I like to pinch my nails and it will be easier that way.
Recent testing proved I cannot have acrylic product. Hard gel is my only option at this point. I can’t even use gel polish now. Slick pour and regular polish is my only option.
@@rachnailedit I meant I can’t use acrylic nails due to monomer allergy. It’s the chemical in the liquid to apply the acrylic powder that I’m allergic to. I can dip with acrylic powder
Very nice conversation, thank you as always But one thing, YES, YOU CAN Build Long Strong nails on paper forms. Nails are strong, you can soak off them. It's all about technic and some, they are just couple rules. And yes you will do nails fast same like with hard gels od acrylic. I prefer Hard Gels more, because I my first contact with gels was with hard gels and I learned in School to work with them But I am also working with soft gels in pot. And work pretty well 😊
I like shoes too & handbags 😁 been a while since I have purchased either of those.....I have been buying nail products 🥳 Speaking of nail products- my order arrived yesterday, THANKS SO MUCH!
As someone who used to go to the nail salon monthly for years, to doing my own (mostly press ons and simple designs) at home, I can say the nail world is very confusing and overwhelming. There is acrylic, shellac, gel etc. Then now hard and soft gel.
I’m in Delaware and most of the salons are pushing for gel only.because of the smell of acrylic.I’m having a hard time as a beginner getting into a salon that does both.
@YoungNailsInc I currently have items in my cart and I can’t decide if I should go with hard gel or soft gel polish. I have long natural strong nails and I won’t be adding any extensions. Which one would you recommend?
Well ok Habib❗❗❗ ..u need to be in Trace's seat answering the questions. U definately know more than the average beginner nail person. Sighs... The luxury of being around nail pros 🤗🙃😍😍 must be nice
@@Jennifer-hj5ot some people like to encapsulate with hard gel over acrylic because they like the clarity of it more than clear acrylic. Both are beautiful!
Thankyou all for you this channel. Have watched even before i took up nails and the help and information is clear. I would like to see some more of how much they cost. As that was a shock as i was giving away free art not anymore thankyou again guys and girls
You mentioned builder gel briefly but would that be more of a soft gel or hard gel in terms of whether you can build extensions with it? I've seen lots of products that say both builder and hard gel on the label and others that only say builder but don't explain what it should be used for. To make things even more complex there are a lot of "builder in a bottle" products that idk if they can be used to "build" an extension or are just meant for overlays. Can anyone help a sista out?
Usually builder or sculpting gel is a hard gel so they do same thins. There are the new builders in the bottle that is kinda a mix.. it has the properties of both hard and soft gel. It’s always best to look at the description from the company itself.
I started doing my and my mom's nails because of the pandemic. I started with acrylic but I switched to gel since its odorless. My mom has very soft thin nails and she is prone to lifting but she likes extensions (short) I bought maniq in a pot to try for her but would it work to give her stability as a base under polygel nails? Would it make her stop lifting as much? I learned that it isn't my prep because when I started using the yn primer she lifts less too :) its a product thing with her.
I asked for extensions at my local salon. The technician glued tops and applied gel on top, like 3 layers, and cured with UV light. It actually hot slightly hot under the lamp. What did I get?
Extension refers to extending the length of your nails. Without knowing what they used it sounds like they did give you extensions. If there is a certain kind you want you may need to be more specific in saying what that is or ask the salon if they do that service prior to making an appointment. Are you wanting the extensions with hard gel or acrylic? With tips or using forms? Are you okay with full cover tips instead? Questions like that. When I make appointments I think of it as a starbucks order. You need to give them all the information to get exactly what you want. If they don't offer the service you want, you may need to keep looking for a place or tech that does.
Ok...maniQ is a soft gel, is the jar of maniQ base the same as the bottle of maniQ base? Is it the same product? In different containers? I prefer gel pots, the synergy gel is the gel I want to use to build the tip and for structure, right? So far I prefer acrylic, but I haven't done anything with my gel products....
ManiQ in a jar is the same as our maniQ base bottle only it’s a little thicker. If you watch our Common Gel Mistakes video, Tracey talks about the 2 and when she would use them😊 Yes, synergy gel is great for sculpting extensions and building the nail🙌🏽
Bahaha - I'm not a nail tech but I started doing little things for myself like Gel-X and I'm here to learn about soft gel and hard gel and how they differ and putting tips and what would last for a 4 week trip and etc LOL --- here to learn for self applications :P
Hi Habib and Tracey 👋 I’ve watched you and Habib’s brother on and off over the years as I’m self taught and you explain things so well. I was looking to find out the difference between different gels and came across this. It has been so helpful and also insightful too. Hearing Habib talk passionately about gel when I thought you guys only ever worked with acrylic! I can work with acrylic and love the end result but only use to build the extension then work with gel. I still struggle with the technique using acrylic. I hear technicians talk of encapsulating a design. I assume you can use either a hard or soft gel for that. I use hard gel and file off. I just love nail art and learning new things. Habib, can I ask how did you and your brother (sorry I don’t know his name) get into nail art? I love the fact your both doing it. Tracey, I love watching your work and you all make a great team. Thank you so much for sharing your all amazing 👏🏻🌟🥰💅🏻🇬🇧
Soft gel. Now some people use xxl in length and will as hard gel for structure or support. It if you’re just doing a medium length then just gel polish for color. Also soft gel is just a fancy term for gel polish. Hope this helps!
If you are feeling those heat spikes, it may be that you are using thicker layers of product, which can produce more heat. Try applying less product or using the “low heat” mode on our lamp. In this mode, it will begin curing slower & then the power of the lamp will increase to fully cure. You can also start by curing the nails just outside the light for 20-30 seconds & then place them fully under the light to complete the cure without the heat spikes. www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8Frfkn7/
This video came just in time! I was just about to buy hard gel and decided soft gel is a better product for me! Question: is it possible to mix acrylic powder with a soft gel? (Anyone can answer if you know!)
HELPPPPP I’m late but praying YN sees this… ok so nail tech of acrylic 10years learnt gel 2 years ago. Have a client hairdresser and we swapped her from acrylic to hard gel bam perfect no pop off anymore. So I know gels but my question is I have a client who digs in the garden she’s had 2 sets first one just gel polish 4 days cracked chipped yuk 2nd set I tried builder no better but got 10 days. Should I go hard gel ? She doesn’t have extensions only short nails, so all I want is a colour that lasts but with some strength like a gel. And if yes how can I colour hard gel iv got clear and nude. I know you can mix glitter in so can I mix gel polish in so we get a colour but strength against her being so rough on them. Thank you 😊
You can mix gel polish with your hard gel a well to get colors or even apply the gel polish on top. If you finish file with a 150 file, cleanse with swipe and add a coat of protein bond before the gel polish color that will help prevent chipping and peeling.
I have had two people reach out to me and they ask for hard gel because they use to use dip. I want to know if they should use hard gel or soft gel going forward?
It would really depend on the client, how they want to wear their nails as well as what their lifestyle is. If they just want their natural nails with an overlay or very short extensions, the Fiber Gel will work well since it is flexible but durable. If they want longer extensions or are harder on their nails or have their hands in water or other chemicals on a regular basis (ex. hairdressers, bartenders, house cleaners, etc), hard gel may be a better option for them.
If you apply a hard gel or soft gel over natural nail first, is it best to apply gel color on the sticky layer directly out of light or is it better to wipe sticky layer, buff it up and then apply gel color?
I use both hard and soft gels. I typically wipe off the sticky layer because some gel polish brands don’t like the gel used to build the overlay. I also lightly rough up the surface with a medium grit sanding band. It promotes extra adhesion and prevents chipping of the gel polish.
Generally speaking, if a gel product can be soaked off, it would be considered a soft gel. Since polygel is combination of acrylic and hard gel, it really is in a category of its own. However, if you are wanting to categorize it, it would be in the category of building or sculpting products rather than gel polishes.
It really is going to depend on what brand you are using. Different product lines refer to their products in a different way, but if you are using YN products, our soft gels include our gel polishes (ManiQ Color and Go Time), ManiQ in the pot, ManiQ Fiber Gel. Our hard gels are any of our Synergy line (Base, Flex, Build, Build Pink, White Sculpture, Precision Tubes). Soft gels are designed to be more flexible, so they are not recommended to build length, but you can use them to create a little more structure over a natural nail. They can be removed by filing or soaking off with acetone. Hard gels are designed to build structure or sculpt extensions. They become non porous when cured, so they must be filed off to remove as solvents cannot break them down.
I've never used any of the products soft or hard gel so I'd like to find out if can one file the soft gel builder to get the fine finish look so I can apply gel polish over? I'm confused really or you can only file the hard gel builder since it's almost like acrylic?
Soft gel is referring to gel polish mainly. You wouldn't need to file it to be smooth. You would file the natural nail or enhancement before applying the gel polish. Hard gel you would hand file/ electric file in to shape and remove bulk and then apply a gel top coat or gel polish on top.
It depends on the company or technician as to how they are using the terms. A "builder gel" can be describing a hard or soft gel but it is for creating structure. For example, a "build in a bottle" is generally a soft gel whereas our YN Build is a hard gel but they can both be used to build the arch of a nail. A soft gel generally works best just over a natural nail, can be soaked off with acetone or filed off. A hard gel is designed to build an extension over a tip or with a form. Once cured, it becomes non-porous and cannot be dissolved or soaked off, so it would need to be filed off.
No, our hard gel has its own base gel and then you build the entire structure of the nail with hard gel like you build the nail with acrylic. Here are some great videos for you: ua-cam.com/video/LFykeb6GC2Q/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/McvVnrFm6vI/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Ik5KRSFG9eU/v-deo.html
Gel-less filing, less bulk, No smell, beautiful dimensional art Acrylic-strong smell, allergic reactions I love gel it just takes practice like everything else Now polygel I absolutely hated
A building gel is basically a gel that is use to build structure and depending on the product line, may be a hard or soft gel. In our Synergy Gel system, we have gels that are called Build and Build Pink. These are both hard gels used to build and sculpt the nails. In our line, we also have Sculptor and Concealer gels that are also hard gels and can be used for building structure to the nails.
There are the new builders in the bottle that is kinda a mix.. it has the properties of both hard and soft gel. It’s always best to look at the description from the company itself.
Hi YN have loved your product and only used your product for the past 5 years. I wasn't acrylic girl until 2 weeks ago. I absolutely love your gel beginner kit. It should include a brush. Besides that it's so durable I've had no lifting and it's extremely easy to fill. My question though..... I used the "fill a whole well tip" method for my own hands and have a ledge underneath and I'm scared to file it out because I'm afraid that's my structure.... How do I avoid that. My nails are amazing. I'll send you a pic via insta
I had to get my first e-file because I wasn't educated enough yet and I bought the wrong gel, and I ended up putting hard gel on myself when I thought it was soft gel, couldn't figure out why I wouldn't soak off 🤣🤣
I'm one of those people with the weak bendy nails that can't keep gel polish. That's actually what started this entire journey, trying to figure out why it was always chipping.
I feel like this was kinda condescending. I'm a huge fan of you guys, Greg, Young Nails, and your protein bond. I feel like this was mostly a dig at the ABS Plastic tips vs the Soft Gel tips. Can you e-file on plastic full cover tips? I'm talking about cuticle work, sidewalls, the whole 9 yds? No. The quote unquote soft gel nails? Absolutely! And you DO have to cure them on, they have a porous surface that allows other gels to adhere PERMANENTLY without having to file scratches because, like you said, gel sticks to gel AND it soaks off, plastic does too, but I don't get how you guys are bashing methods you've never used. We all know that you are better at nails than us; that's why we are watching you and not vice versa. I don't see why that means we have to walk around with busted up sets until we can begin to be comparable to yalls talent. I mean, we found methods that work for us and give us GORGEOUS nails THAT DON'T LIFT (thanks to very thorough prep and of course, protein bond: nothing can beat it!) But I'm pretty sure y'all have gone over this several times, especially since releasing your new tips. With abs plastic tips, the gel separates from the tips and it's just a mess. You can etch the inside with the e-file and add primer inside, for MAYBE a LITTLE MORE longevity. And I'm pretty sure that no one is ever going into a salon saying that they got gel nails if they only got gel top coat, ya know? The reason I and likely everyone else is subscribed to your channel is because we LOVE NAILS AND HAVE A THIRST FOR KNOWLEDGE, ya know, and , again, that protein bond 🤘; another difference is that you can bend soft gel tips and they maintain their shape, plastic does not. Please just do me, well us, a favor, on Suzie's Career Nail Academy channel, I'm sure you know who I'm talking about, search in her videos just type "next level press on nails" and I'm sure you'll see where the great debate is coming from. 💚
Which brands Polygels are Non soakable and which are Soakable? Thank you for help.
Btw you guys are so entertaining and yet provide educational material so well
Learned a lot. I’m a hard gel user. That’s what I started out with. Now I’m starting to get into acrylic.
I used your hard gel and made stilettos the full length of the form, they’re very strong and holding up awesome. My sidewalls are nice and tucked, no dip or ridge between cuticle, awesome c curve, near perfect apex placement, and shaaarp! Even my dentist was in love with them 😀
Omg I really needed this video!! I like gel so much better than acrylic. I was a little confused about soft and hard gel. Gel is so pretty and clear.
I offer hard and soft gel and dip nails . I love acrylic but not the smell
How do you explain the difference options to the client what’s the benefit from both and what price difference would be
I was actually wondering the other day if it was possible to sculpt and build with ManiQ in a jar. You answered my question! Thank you for all of the info and advice you deliver on your channel. It’s always so helpful.
The only time I every use soft gel for an extension is with a gal that has I horrible chewing problem. She gets very short nails just for special occasions. I use soft gel because she has severe denting and the soft gel helps her to not be in pain if it grows out a little before she can get them removed.
thank you guys !I Appreciate you to the fullest
Getting back into working after so many years off is definitely hard but I will learn hard gels so I can get “all the money” like Tracey said 🤣
I am so grateful for these videos
love the look of acrylic an hard gel flawless and last as long with shine an design always loks good after 3-4 weeks

I was mad at yall for the Black Friday deal, but I can't stay mad for long 😬😢 I love yall products too much. 💜 Yall have my favorite products overall.
I’m a DIYer and belong to a lot of nail groups on facebook. Tracy discussed that soft gel is really not intended for extensions, but I have done and have seen a lot of other people build out their nails (not super long) with builder gel. Are you saying we shouldn’t use builder gel this way?
Builder gel is different than soft gel. It can be soaked off, but is a little stronger.
Slick pour is acrylic powder 🙄
@@rachnailedit I meant I can’t use acrylic nails due to monomer allergy. It’s the chemical in the liquid to apply the acrylic powder that I’m allergic to. I can dip with acrylic powder

I have all three ;) soft gel, hard gel and acrylic its useful to have options;)
Very nice conversation, thank you as always
But one thing, YES, YOU CAN Build Long Strong nails on paper forms. Nails are strong, you can soak off them. It's all about technic and some, they are just couple rules. And yes you will do nails fast same like with hard gels od acrylic. I prefer Hard Gels more, because I my first contact with gels was with hard gels and I learned in School to work with them
But I am also working with soft gels in pot.
Thank you! Young Nails have helped me so much!
I’m in Delaware and most of the salons are pushing for gel only.because of the smell of acrylic.I’m having a hard time as a beginner getting into a salon that does both.
always enjoy listen ing an learning new stuff from u guys
Can you put a hard gel over a soft gel to help it last longer?
My school just handed me a lap top and told me to watch OPI videos. I’m basically self taught and have learned a lot from YN and Suzi
@YoungNailsInc I currently have items in my cart and I can’t decide if I should go with hard gel or soft gel polish. I have long natural strong nails and I won’t be adding any extensions. Which one would you recommend?
NYS hasn’t updated their state curriculum in EIGHTEEN YEARS. No gel, no efile. We have to take outside classes
Well ok Habib❗❗❗ ..u need to be in Trace's seat answering the questions. U definately know more than the average beginner nail person. Sighs... The luxury of being around nail pros 🤗🙃😍😍 must be nice
My school would not teach me acrylic because of the smell. They only taught hard gel - OPI. I wanted to learn both.
I do acrylic angel don't like to do tips but if my client it wants tips I will do it. Although I explained they won't last as long.
Thanks soo much. I've been wondering this exact thing.
Also can you combine hard gel over acrylic? Or the other way around? Dont laugh. I'm embarrassed enough. ☺️
@@Jennifer-hj5ot sure you can, but what would the purpose be? Not ideal, but you can fill hard gel with acrylic, and visa versa.

Great video guys! SOOOOO helpful! Tyfs💜
It might work over her natural nails but I don’t think it would work as a base for polygel
@@youngnailsinc oh... that sucks but thank you! :)
Hard gel pink and white/ p&w marble/baby boomer question would clear or build pink be better to encapsulate them in. Thank you
I would encapsulate in clear
@@youngnailsinc Thank you
I asked for extensions at my local salon.
Love the video! Quick question is builder gel the same as hard gel? Thank you so much for the Info!
Yes, it is. They should tell people that as it's very confusing.
Especially for beginners
Thank you for the clarification!
If you watch our Common Gel Mistakes video, Tracey talks about the 2 and when she would use them😊
Yes, synergy gel is great for sculpting extensions and building the nail🙌🏽
@@youngnailsinc thanks so much! That's one video I don't think I have watched. I will definitely check that out! 😁

Can u do an episode on hybrid/polygel?
we aren't familiar with poly gel since we don't work with it.
Why does the internet says that hard gel is only for short extension and builder for longwr extensions?? Is that true
Our builder is a hard gel and it can be used for short nail or long extensions.
On a press on nail would it be better to use a hard gel or soft gel?
Soft gel. Now some people use xxl in length and will as hard gel for structure or support. It if you’re just doing a medium length then just gel polish for color. Also soft gel is just a fancy term for gel polish. Hope this helps!
Soft gel is just polish/gel polish
How do you minimize the heat spike when curing gel, builder gel? I felt so bad for my client it looked very unpleasant.

This video came just in time! I was just about to buy hard gel and decided soft gel is a better product for me!
Question: is it possible to mix acrylic powder with a soft gel? (Anyone can answer if you know!)
Yes you can! You can also use soft gel & dip your nails into acrylic then cure! 🌸
Thank you so much ! It's been a question on my mind and you couldn't have explained it better!
Can you use the maniQ pot to encapsulate acrylic? …. Hope that makes sense…
No, you can use it to cap on the natural nails but if you are making extensions you want to use clear acrylic or hard gel.
This was another great informative video thank y'all❤❤
So is builder gel in a bottle and hard gel the same thing?
I actually made extensions with soft gel. It wasn't good. 😂 they kept bending and breaking and I had no idea why.
@@alinacornejo6950 thank you ❤️
I know polygel is a hybrid, but would that be considered in the category of soft gel as well? Or just another category on its own..?
Generally speaking, if a gel product can be soaked off, it would be considered a soft gel. Since polygel is combination of acrylic and hard gel, it really is in a category of its own. However, if you are wanting to categorize it, it would be in the category of building or sculpting products rather than gel polishes.
My school 20 years ago wouldn’t teach us acrylic. We read about it , but that’s it. Lol
I’m a nail tech and builder gel and gel is so confusing. Is BIAB hard or soft? Is builder gel hard or soft
Thank you very much
What about polygel or acryl gel. Are they hard or soft?
My school says they teach hard gel. It was a 1 day lesson. I graduated last year. I need to find a class to take.
What is the difference between builder gel and hard gel?
It depends on the company or technician as to how they are using the terms. A "builder gel" can be describing a hard or soft gel but it is for creating structure. For example, a "build in a bottle" is generally a soft gel whereas our YN Build is a hard gel but they can both be used to build the arch of a nail. A soft gel generally works best just over a natural nail, can be soaked off with acetone or filed off. A hard gel is designed to build an extension over a tip or with a form. Once cured, it becomes non-porous and cannot be dissolved or soaked off, so it would need to be filed off.
So basically your gonna want to use a soft gel or acrylic base and then build up with hard gel?
No, our hard gel has its own base gel and then you build the entire structure of the nail with hard gel like you build the nail with acrylic.

Is builder get the same as hard gel?
A building gel is basically a gel that is use to build structure and depending on the product line, may be a hard or soft gel. In our Synergy Gel system, we have gels that are called Build and Build Pink. These are both hard gels used to build and sculpt the nails. In our line, we also have Sculptor and Concealer gels that are also hard gels and can be used for building structure to the nails.
Is builder in bottle hard or soft gel.
There are the new builders in the bottle that is kinda a mix.. it has the properties of both hard and soft gel. It’s always best to look at the description from the company itself.

Hi YN
have loved your product and only used your product for the past 5 years.
Is base gel soft gel?
Our synergy base gel is a hard gel base. Our soft gel base coats would be ManiQ base, Conversion base, Maniq in a tub.

I’ve asked a few times on different platforms you guys have but NOONE will answer! Is Steph no longer with YN?
Wow I didn’t realise base gel is soft gel! So base gel can be soaked off!
Ha, see im my country, when thay say gel, it means hard gel, for overlay to🤷🏼♀️
I feel like this was kinda condescending.
