Not to feel bad my friend, we all get blind sided on occasion. I have been dinged on another channel already. There are those that have nothing to do other than perpetrate.
I personally toy with them. Bonus points if I waste their time. One less person they can scam. Also report them. When hovering over a comment, 3 vertical dots show up. Click on that.
They sent me a link as well but this has been an ongoing issue for a while now and recognized it was a scammer. Thank you for sending out a note to everyone!!!

Hi, that's rough, I never dreamed that something like this would happen. Here in the Czech Republic we have a saying "For goodness on the beggar" and the fact that it works, I experienced firsthand, I repaired the electronics on the car of a guy from our house, he probably mentioned it at home, and his brother, who was a drug addict, and his friends completely robbed my workshop. I wish that such things did not happen, but unfortunately we live in such a world and we have no other. In conclusion, I just wish the new owner of the radio that it serves him well to his maximum satisfaction and we thank you for your quick response and warning about scammers. Thanks and nice day 🙂 Tom
Two best ways a channel can be proactive: 1 - the viewers who spot the scammy comments should click the 3-vertical-dots thingy and choose "Report" on the offending comment. Then choose an appropriate category for the violation. Usually "unwanted commercial content". 2 - the channel owner can assign other people to be moderators with (only) the power to review and delete comments. That second one is up to the channel owner and may be more trouble/risk that it's worth, but I just mentioned it because it's an available tool. The main thing is for ALL youtube viewers to be very wary of spammy, scammy comments. Even the ones where an attractive feminine name and profile pic who make generic, positive comments without asking for anything are often just advertising their own channel (hoping you'll click on their profile pic) for either views or something they're trying to sell in their own videos.
I hate scammers too. Remember Retevis ? When they emailed me I didn't take them serious at first... because a week before they emailed me I had another email asking for a review on a Retevis... but they were asking me to go to a store and order one ))) Then that they told me that the radio is free but I must pay first postal taxes and whatever. I just wrote back a "nice" email so they will remember me and they stop sending me emails after that ))). I hate scammers too... 73
Its worth calling them out. Even in PG mode. Either you have several comments that derail their story or they respond and you waste their time from a real scam. As always report and thumbs down. Likes/dislikes may not help with an active bot net but never hurts to try. Keyword - active. Sometimes I just comeback later and thumbs down if still up.
So the Nigerian Prince doesn't have a free radio for me? Awwww 😉 I know what you mean, i get multiple calls a day fit everything from auto warranties to threats of arrest for some random thing no one is arrested for
The thing is that even though everyone and their grandmothers are using technology, they can be relatively new and naïve. I personally know 3 people that would have fallen for that.
With the resources Alphabet and Meta have, I have no doubt that they could eliminate this problem on their various platforms if they wanted to. Question is, why don't they? Thoughts?
They are trying to do everything with AI instead NI - software instead of meatware. Yet they still manage to employ 10s of thousands of people doing what I'm not sure... probably working on AI software and selling ads. Trying to get human understandable problems solved by communicating with a human at either of those companies is damn near impossible.
The radio has been delivered to the new owner!!!
I have contacted the winner via his email listing on QRZ.
Drat. It must not be me because I didn't post my callsign ;)
This is why physical mail is still relevant. Anything asking for anything financial strictly comes in postal format.

Bummer. It's a cat-and-mouse game that can be exhausting.
Report and thumbs down. Don't let up.
Thanks for warning everyone about this scam.

And now you see why I no longer do any giveaways.
you too?
This is why we can’t give away nice things.

Yep so sad having to put up with the scammers. I am sick of it as well
Jerks. Thanx for your efforts, nonetheless.
Good initiative to alert your followers about scammers.
Scammers are on every UA-cam channel now. You will need to organize things to outsmart them.

Thanks! Don't let the scammers get you down. I want to say more but its like responding to troll bait. Scammers stink (keeping it family friendly).

good luck McGillicuddy!
Why did they have to send me photos of Kermit the Frog!
I contact the scammer. Quite interesting
