Decorah Eagles-Mom Joins Eaglets As Thunderstorm Approaches

- A thunderstorm rolled into Decorah earlier today and the eaglets D32 & D33 were stretched out and napping. The winds picked up and the sky got darker. The nest rocked a bit and when the winds and thunder become stronger, Mom flew to the nest just before it started to rain. D33 wasn't liking the rain and stayed under Mom while D32 enjoyed it and flapped it's wings in the wind.

Oh wow, so glad Mom showed up to be with the babies to shelter and comfort them. They are still little and need protection from the elements. That wind is nasty! The rain is scary and the thunder storm sounds too. One likes it, one doesn't. Nice she stays close-by to fly in. You never know what presents itself. Anything could happen at any time. Great video! A few days difference in age makes such a big difference in maturation. Mom is always there when her babies need her.

Thanks for the upload! Seems most of the other channels are just showing the north eagles now- which I like too of course! But I want to know how my friends 32 and 33 are doing! That’s so cute how littlest eaglet 33 wanted to be under moms protection while 32 was off wingercizing in the elements 🤣🥰😍. Mom is sooo sweet, I love these eagles and eaglets!

She reminds me of last year when ...was it #30 that was attacked by #29??? and forced into fledging, then wouldn't sleep in the nest again... Instead, perched on the skywalk from then on for the night? Mom knew it was scared and needed reassurance, so she spent the first two nights sleeping on the skywalk, too. She knows what her kids need and is right there for them. #33...this one worries me. No confidence at all thanks to its Birdzilla sibling....
Totally with you on that concern. Wish D32 was born after D33. At least s/he would have a better chance. S/he has been bullied from day one and that's all it knows. Hoping that will change in time when s/he can get out from under its bully older sib.
JayKB i never knew that about (potentially) 29 and 30, was an interesting story thanks for sharing it- and I know ☹️ poor 33! I love 33 he or she is so innocent that it used to make me feel sooo bad when 32 would peck him and 33 would flop over and lie down and not want to get back up 🥺, was the saddest thing to watch, people will probably disagree but at those times when 33 did the flop over he or she probably felt so crappy and sad. I think 33 will be ok though. Just a late bloomer in terms of confidence. I HOPE anyway

The differences of D32 and D 33 may be the wings' growth stages: D32 has enough wings to protect the body from the rain and the strong wind !

Is mom ok? I saw a few minutes ago that dad came to the nest with a medium size fish, the kids were really hungry and looking forward to eating. One of the kids grab the fish and dad and him had a little tug of the fish when dad swallowed the whole fish, did not give any to the eaglets. So where is mom?
