I'm researching kung fu trying to learn it and how it works. The difference between different styles. I'm wondering if you can explain the difference between Shaolin's five animals and Hung Gar's Five animals? Are they the same style of not?
They are different styles. Some of the basics or core structures are the same, but ultimately the movements are different. Each style gets its name from the animal each style most closely mimicks and they each have unique philosophies guiding each style which is what sets them more apart than the way the styles may be different in practice. Here’s a site that goes into more detail about how the 5 animal styles of kung fu differ for an idea. In general there are two competing styles: Northern style and Southern style.
