It's still a racing car. It still caught the car ahead of it on the road, and the driver and co-driver both looked pretty pleased with themselves about that. You have an old Fiat? Watch this.... hold my beer.
yeah, seemed rather insulting to put the timing clock on this beautiful machine.. mind you, getting the lady/girl as co-pilot was a good idea, less weight, more aerodynamic.. haha
I believe this was Lautenschlager's Car that won the 1908 French Grand Prix at Dieppe and humiliated the French like nothing before. The runner ups were 2 Benz 150 HP 12.8 litre cars with Victor Hemery and Rene Hanriot. The best french Car a Clement Bayard ranked on 4th place 34 Minutes behind the Mercedes 140 HP 12.5 litre car.
No. The car only had rear brakes, and that is operated by the rightmost lever(the other lever is the gearlever, as you may have noticed). As far as I know these cars Do have a brake pedal, but they operate a band brake at the output shaft? of the gearbox, probably as a backup brake in case the drum brakes start to fail. These cars used to race for HOURS in unmade country roads, remember. We rally need someone who really knows(or drives) Edwardian cars to make everything clear for us, for that's about everything I know, thanks to the Fiat s76:)

EDGEDAZZA The woman in the passenger seat?
Obnoxious Otter

EDGEDAZZA No, I mean are you talking about the woman in the passenger seat? The car isn't a woman.
Obnoxious Otter
you’ve never heard people talk about cars as male or female before?

That is soooo cool seeing that old girl still tearing it up.
The sound of those things is simply the best.
That was awesome. Stuff like this is so cool to see!
Oh great handling of that beast! Respect to the driver! And please allow me to be a bit proud after working 44 years for Mercedes-Benz.
Just as loyal to the brand as Christian Lautenschlager :)
the good old days when the safety equipment required was a pair of goggles and an handlebar moustache
I'd love to try that out, must be a pretty fri....exciting experience! :D
Runs better than some 2018 models.
Probably cheaper to get parts, too.
Was that Jay Leno at the end of the video?...

you are right Andreas.
Still more fun to watch than a NIO EP9 hahaha
1:12 man you don't want to mess up in that corner
I hope they're going to make a proper compilation of these rather than just releasing each separate one as a two minute clip.
Was that Jay Leno at 1:43?
0:20 Ohhh Damn! You can hear the engine absolutely forcing the high gearing to make it move
it is as if you can hear the Torque! 😆
Stunning!
Not bad for an 'old girl'. So good to watch.
That looked thrilling. 👍
0:13 those hands are trained really well ;)
110 years old, wow!
What, they couldn't be bothered to wave the checkered flag?
Sounds like a groundbound Buzz Bomb!
they drove le mans with this thing! crazy
Nope. There was no 24 Hours of Le Mans until 1923. This car won the 1908 French Grand Prix which was at Dieppe.
Whoa that takes some guts
I see Jay Leno in his Italia
Benji Frater Where? Or is this a refference that I dont get?
In the red car in front at the end of vid
The name of the car is Itala
It's a Fiat
Meanwhile some guys won't rev out a BRM V16 but a 111 year old Mercedes is being powerslided and quick shifted
It's safer to rev this cars nuts off than try the same with a v16. This car isn't actively trying to kill you.
@@rosiehawtrey
Haha yeah the drivers of BRM were a different breed :)
@@rosiehawtrey There is ONE modern Video of the BRM ballz out, when i find the title, ill send it to you, its one minute of heaven.
Maybe if my girlfriend had to pump the fuel by hand she wouldn’t get car sick!
By 1908 Man Kind produced a CAR capable of traveling to another city under 6 hours!
But he's sounds so smooth compared with racing car in that era

And red ines at 1400 rpm lol
“HE’S CALLED THE STIG!!!!”
The Stig be like: *Stig Noises*
So the brake is a hand brake?
only that it only acts on the rear wheels, and the response is not to be relied upon when it comes to emergency heavy braking...
JC Gabriel so it has a foot break for all 4? Wasn't the fiat from a few yrs later first with 4 wheel brakes?
