As a woman who plays Warhammer, it’s cool you acknowledge we exist. That along with helpful tips that can often times be applied to drukhari and your deep dives are what got me hooked on your channel
Fantastic! I really hope we see a lot more women playing 40k in the coming years. So much of the other nerd stuff has massively corrected for gender disparity since the 90s
@@WBConcilio Hey! I'm the President of Wargames Soc Edinburgh Uni, and just want to say we've got 5-6 female members a session. Admittedly out of 27, but it's definitely growing every recruitment drive we have! Definitely getting popular in different demographics
Seeing how good the Autarch Wayleaper was when 10th edition dropped was such a feel-good moment. There was never a reason to field her in 9th, but now she’s a staple!
Last week I played the Wayleaper a bit more aggressively than just camping the home objective and shooing away deep strikers and it went stellar. He threw grenades, melted bikes and shredded them with his Starglaive and Mandiblasters. In the end he cleared a week flank nearly on his own, allowing the rest of my force to focus on the center. I am partial to Mandiblasters now, as in the game before, he bounced of 5 mandrakes, which just made 13 5++ Saves in a row against his melee attacks (3 melee phases...) and the Banshee mask did nothing. Thanks for sharing your insights Brent, appreciated as always!
Wayleaper is a solid unit. I've ran amok all through the back lines of my opponents between phantasm, fire and fade, etc. Having the grenades keyword on him is also especially nice.
I just ran one of these fancy elves on Saturday, and I was impressed by the Dragon Fusion Gun and the insane mobility. Thanks for all the next-level shenanigans, I look forward to trying to make the overwatch-phantasm combo work!
Food for thought there! Thank's Brett! I currently have four painted Autarch's... and just bought another two because I love the model and want to add some narritive play variations... and really enjoyed painting them!! My finished ones are: A Foot-arch for Boarding Patrols with a Deathspinner and Starglave Warp Generator Wayleaper with Fusion Gun and Star Glave Winged Wayleaper with Reaper Launcher and Star Glave (like the old Codex) Converted Autarch Skyrunner using a spare Laser Lance Narrative wise, with Autarch's having had a past in Aspect Warriors, I think they should be able to lead a wider variety of units. For example the Autarch Skyrunner with a laser lance themes well with Shining Spears. A Mandiblaster equipped would go well with Striking Scorpions, and likewise with Banshee Masked Autarch leading Banshees.
I'm aiming to get the Winged Autarch tomorrow, and mix and match it with the newer Autarch kit. Going to be tough choosing which one to put the Star Glaive/Fusion Gun on
This was super helpful. I don’t think I’ve got the best out of my wayleaper yet so thanks for the pointers. Just a quick one on the battle shock stuff. I played into Chaos Demons tonight and ended up losing multiple units to the mortal wounds caused by failing battle shock in the Shadow of chaos. Cost me a couple of primaries over the course of the game.🤦🏼
Awesome video, thanks Brent. I’ve never regretted bringing my wayleaper to the table. The look of consternation on my opponent’s face when I remind him of lone operative is worth the points in itself. Good to hear that my loadout is optimal too albeit mines modelled with mandiblasters. Thanks again for a great video, already looking forward to the next one.
Way back in 2nd edition I never took the field without my Swooping Hawk Exarch with meltagun, power sword, and stasis grenade. He would murder or pin down anything I wanted. Looking forward to doing something similar with an Autarch Wayleaper!
@@WBConcilio IIRC, the Exarchs were not limited to their aspect's ritual weapons, and the meltagun served me better by vaporizing tanks and the never-ending SM and CSM characters in my local meta.
Big fan of your content and the insight you provide for synergy. Just started buying my Ealdari army and added the Autarch Wayleaper and Death Jester to my first purchase list. Might not be true to lore (I really don’t know much lore) but these two will be a couple Lone Operatives I will fiddle around with and hopefully eventually use somewhat effectively.
Grey Knight Librarians and Typhus from Death Guard have the 18" attack that bypasses Lone Op. They also don't count as shooting so locking them in melee doesn't stop it. 3 GK librarians with good rolls can take out the Avatar in turn 1.
I use a Reaper on my wayleaper. Older converted model. Stay as far as possible and screen out my back field. I do appreciate all these tips. I have a 2nd one I'm yet to build. He'll get a fusion
Great vid, thank you. I’m running two wayleapers in my comp lists these days as I feel you get more bang for your buck with the second one over a solitaire. We shall see what the slate brings and if this is still viable!
Thanks for the great video, lone operatives being so strong would it be in the cards for a video on aledari lone operative units. Death jester, Illic nightspear etc. ?
How good is the Wayleaper in Ynnari lists where he can't generate CP? I know he still has all the other tricks (Lone Operative, Dragon Fusion Gun, etc) but I'm curious if he's still worth the points cost if he doesn't also get extra CP.
He is still a solid include, but it also makes sense to consider cheaper options. The Death Jester with Fate's Messenger is the better choice for Death Elves
It is a less competitive pick than both because it' exponentially easier to kill and has far less damage output. If you are going to do it, you can run one with double Brightlances and a Spiritseer that has "Fate's Messenger," which will enable you to do better work with the Brightlances, especially on overwatch; it also gives the unit the infanty keyword so it can use Phantasm. (Proxyhammer has a video about this if you are interested) This whole package comes in at 230 points, so it's a bit cheaper than those other two, but also no where near as strong. At the end of the day, it just isn't that hard to kill a Wraithlord as it has no invuln and no damage reduction, but as a second bully unit or in a 1000 point game or in more casual play, this could be a solid option. Wraithlords also really suffer from only hitting on 4s in melee and shooting. I don't think a Wraithlord has ever appeared in a list that made it to the podium at a GT since 10th edition started. They either need to come down 25 points in cost, get damage reduction, or get a detachment ability that helps out wraith constructs
Post balance dataslate: I'm wondering how the strats with Fates messenger have changed. Maybe it's more favourable since FM is useless on the spirtseer now?
I bought mine built but unpainted on ebay and it has a male torso, a scorpion chainsword, a banshee mask, a reaper launcher, and a jump pack. Did I get the worst one? :) Still he's my Warlord, and has performed really well generating CP whilst sitting on the home objective firing off harassing infantry with reaper rockets. Might struggle at a GT though
Would you happen to know where to find that GT ruling on using an ability like Fates Messenger or Strands dice on a reroll? I'd love to use Fates Messenger this way but I'd also like to be able to source the ruling incase my opponent questions it.
Maybe this is a really basic question, but what is exactly a Autarch Wayleaper in terms of buying it? I mean, is it the pure "Autarch" or the "Winged Autarch"? Or do I need to do something else to those miniatures to have the Autarch Wayleaper?
You say "don't" give the unit a Reaper Launcher, but don't explain why. Why not? Granted the fusion gun is great for all the reasons you explained, but does that make the Reaper Launcher objectively bad... or just comparatively?
I mean, go ahead. It's not bad as the unit is almost worth it just for CP generation, but choosing the launcher does mean significantly reducing the damage output and the list of units that it can threaten. A Reaper Launcher can kill a single marine at range. A fusion gun can one-shot a demon prince
The jump pack and the wings do the same thing, so from a game play perspective you don't need to buy both kits- but yes, if you want your Wayleaper to have wings instead of a jump pack this is true
@@WBConcilio I got it, if I assemble my autarch on foot with jump drive, ti stops being autarch on foot, and change to wayleaper. But yes, wings are way cooler
