I’ve lived on a boat, and my daughter bought a narrow boat, did it up, sold it and did that twice - and that’s how she got the deposit for a house. It’s an amazing thing to do if you’re up for the downsides ( easier when you’re young) but there are downsides to most houses
So, my mate has one. I lived on it for a year and even with a fire full blast id wake up at 3am in Greenford or Brent FREEZING!! Yeah.. it could be cold. Painfully
I think massive insulation between you and the river is essential - and of course it’s bound to depend massively on the boat and the heating and insulation. I think the main issue for mine was that if you went away you clearly can’t leave a stove going so it’d take ages to heat up - though seemed fine once in there. They gave up when they had a baby ( though not for nearly a year) but some people raise kids on boats for sure. Decades ago I lived in a very cosy, comfy boat but that was a Thames barge with central heating so rather a different level! Would now cost as much as a v posh house, no doubt about it!
