Great job, James, and a happy birthday to you, too.
Everyone knows that welder's sleeves make sense, especially if they're a match in colour 😉
    Take care!

That’s actually a cool thing you taught me. I always thought that the hole in the can was a slag tap, to make sure impurities didn’t stay in the can. Apparently it was for trapped gasses the whole time

This looks pretty cool and I can imagine square this again, twist and make sanmai butcher cleaver or kukri. 🙂

was just thinking about how that would look with a twist.

Nice job! Sorry you didn't have much luck with the white paint. I find that if you're welding towards the upper end of temps the barrier can be defeated. I don't use a forced-air forge, so I haven't had to deal with that for the most part.

Man; it was probably user error. I need a better vice and all if I want to do that again. Maybe burn the inside of the van to build a carbon layer; idk. Cheers man! Thanks for the vids.

Man. Watching guys do forging with a press makes me pretty jealous lol. Doing it all by hand just takes me sooo much longer.

Nice looking Damascus. you never make the exact same pattern twice. looks like your new dies are working pretty good. make some more Damascus and see how your pattern comes out.

I was thinking I was being pedantic, I wouldnt have a vent hole facing my hand while dealing with hot metal and high pressure.... turns out its the ignited steel powder wind from hell that is the problem.
Looks like a nice billett James, looking forward to seeing your creation.

Personally, I think an inheritance is the way to go, financial help to adult children is often actually harmful to their financial independence. Just my personal opinion as someone who hasn’t received financial help other than some college tuition $ in undergrad.

all you needed to do was to dip the "can" in oil. then torch it till red hot.
