A recommendation for the super poor, and those starting off in life. It is acceptable to buy the cheapest set of tools available, and then replace the tools that break (the ones you actually use) with better quality tools over time.

Words to live by. It’s easy to get sucked into thinking you need what this guy has because he likes it and he’s great at what he does. Your tool collection will grow as you work and realize what you need to be more efficient. And sometimes you get to look back and see that pair of pliers (or whatever) you bought first week on the job and look back and see how far you’ve come
Yep. Bought most of mine 2nd hand. Learned to fix em up, then put them to work, then made them pay for their replacements.
High quality second hand tools can be a much better deal than new tools.

When I started college in the 70s I purchase a Black and Decker circular saw - new - for $20. All I could afford and used it for years before I had an income that allowed me to upgrade. Made flower boxes for my college apartment and those memories stick with me more than the multiple homes and projects i have built since then. Those were the days - cherish them!

I'm the new guy at work and happen to be able to cut a descent straight line so I'm naturally the cut guy/measure everything/string line and eyeball it guy on a framing crew. Your recommendation of the spencer loggers tape and mag77 skilsaw are my babies now. Thank you for the less stressful and more efficient work days.
I have quite a robust collection of tools. Many them are modern and up to date tools. I have a collection of antique carpentry tools from my grandfather. Many of those tools originated from the 1920’s. My father left me his 1972 craftsman 10” table saw. It still cuts true to this very day. It is a very heavy piece of equipment. Not like today’s table saws made of aluminum and plastic and nylon. Because of your channel, I’ve gotten a renewed interest in building again. Thanks for the motivation!

In my youth; my small central Wisconsin town was loaded with folks like you. Plain folks that could be called upon to assist in any sort of situation. If one guy didn't have a tool, that other guy would. I always thought that adulthood was going to be so cool; because I would/could be like all those "men"

Never used instagram or Amazon and intend to keep it that way. Buy local or never have the option in the future. Its your dollar you vote with, the choice is yours.
They can't affiliate with all local shops everywhere, Amazon offers a one-point solution. You're free not to use Amazon just as others are free to use it if it fits their convenience.
I only go to Amazon if I can’t find what I’m looking for locally. Even if it costs a bit more money to buy locally, I love doing it. Sadly, not everything we need can be found just down the road. At least where I live, anyway.

I have a titanium hammer. It’s a game changer
For me it was because I had an injury in my dominant hand. It just didn’t heal while I was using a heavier hammer. It cleared up after I started using a 14oz titanium framer.
I can understand why it might not be on the list for others. 🙂

I would never dismiss the belief in something so strongly that it can create a psychological advantage.
I would also NOT rule out the potential helpfulness @badlandskid alluded to.
I would simply say that titanium hammers are a very expensive luxury that MOST people will never realize any mechanical advantage from using.
"Who DOESN'T love tools?" I just rented a soil pipe cutter. Wow, it costs alot to own, but renting was affordable. And it did the job FAST, instead of messy and noisey using a sawzall. Then I found Knipex pliers and wrenches...that work far better than other pliers. But I want to know: are you going to use that cordless Skilsaw instead of the corded one? BTW- I don't do Instagram as its owned by facebook; I know some do, and welcome you adding this for others. But I prefer forums and youtube reviews of tools, by tools, for tools! LOL...

Makita tools are always the right answer, just my opinion.. they can take a beating and can hang in there with the best of tools.
If you’re just starting in a trade, there should be no shame in buying some budget tools to start your journey. There’s nothing wrong with getting to know your tools first. What you like about a particular tool or what you don’t like. Observing how your co-workers use the tools, etc. Who knows, you may even find that you don’t care for the work and move on to something else you like better.
The operator always makes the most profound difference in the ability of a tool.
I find a ton of great tools at garage sales

i have a 3/8 socket set from kmart that are 40 years old and they still get the job done.

I just received a 24oz estwing ball and pean hammer and I was a bit disappointed with the craftsmanship and quality of materials on top of that it was made in Taiwan, I was under the impression they were made in America. My dad carried an eswing framing hammer as a carpenter and I thought I would pick one up as a new machinist. I wish I went to Sears to pick out the nicest tool in person because the handle is junk.

I like bagpipes in the background! I suggest doing your research and try your best to source tools that are American made. It's not always possible but it's vital

I too love tools. In particular well made older tools. But every now in then I look around my workshop and think wow I wish I had all the money back that I have sitting here 😂 but then I reassure myself that I need that tool and one day soon I will pick it up use it again.
Brilliant idea. I had a leaked shower faucet but I could not remove the handles. Then I found out there was a tool to remove stuck on handles. Then a tool to remove the valve. Finally another tool to remove the seat. If I didn’t find these tools I would of needed to call a plumber.
Speaking of antique tools. I picked up a drill press for $20 today runs like a top. Weighs like 110 lbs. Weiler Machine Co. Made in Canada in the 50s or 60s. Can't wait to put it to use.

One thing about being local is supporting local... love this channel and love being an Oregonian my whole life... my only issue with stating this is, why not promote everyone’s local shops... my shingle supplier has multiple tools I buy for everyday work and so many other shops that I can get guns and saws from as well as have them rebuilt. Glad to see your channel grow.
There is comfort in owning quality tools, knowing when you need them, they will do the job. I worked with many carpenters that would buy cheap( or, what I call disposable) boots, bags, and tools.

Don’t stop! What you’re bringing here in these videos can’t be gotten from a book and is likely your greatest contribution to society. Father teaches Son (or Daughter)... I learn something with every new video, including lessons in Grace.
had 13 holes to drill into concrete. a reantal company wanted 55 dollars a hour for a impact drill. I'm 70 I figure it would take me at least 2 days. I went put and purchased me a 20 volt dewalt impact drill. I figure it costed me more, but Now I have a nice drill for the future.
I think it's cool when I dig a trench with the same trenching shovel my great grandfather and my grandfather used and all the stories behind it

Maybe you could do a video on making decisions on how much to buy, what to buy, what to let go of, etc. It’s hard to know what I may need in the future and what to do with all the extra hammers, screwdrivers, and wrenches that I have been given over the years.
Having the right tool and know how to use it will make every job easier....

we boys and our toys lol and these days a lot of young women are now tool/toy collectors i find that refreshing as a young woodworker we had a couple of women in the shop very unusual at the time another great video

Im always buying tools that i need to do some job or task and the latest task is refurbishing kitchen knives and small side cutters that are in poor shape. So will see if any of the affiliate links have the tools for the job.
