- A salary cap casualty of the Colorado Avalanche, one of the games greatest players finds himself without a team--and looks to his past to find a new home.
Full breakdown of Peter Forsberg's journey to Philadelphia where he would line up with Simon Gagne and Mike Knuble, to form (for a brief time) one of the best lines in the NHL.

He was one of the most entertaining players to watch, and from a pure talent standpoint, in my top 5 ever. It was a privilege to watch him play for my flyers, even if it was only a season and a half.
@@jmarx3943 100%. From pure talent it’s hard to put many over Foppa. Him and gagne was awesome to watch
The best European player in the NHL of all time.
He’s in my top 5 with Jagr Lidstrom mikita and stastny
Lidstrom is the obvious choice…and Ovechkin would have a beef.
@@achildr1hahaha true! Top 5 harder than I thought- Ovie 100% in there
Fedorov was better imo
@@warmpie1316yeah fedorov is interesting. At his peak I could argue he’s top 10 all time. Just had a bit of a decline- I cover some of it in another video when he goes to Anaheim and plays with Sykora/prospal
Underrated career in philly. Only 1 foot and over a ppg
@@phillytheflyerable agreed, shame docs couldn’t figure out his foot issues. Legendary career cut short
What a generation Sweden had with Forsberg Sundin Lidström Näslund Alfredsson and a few others, at that time....amazing hockey players
Golden era for sure!
Can't forget Lindberg
The worlds most complete player of all time
I was never "into" Hockey, but I love the flyers. It's the only sport where my home team is truly my favorite (although oddly enough, the Devil's were right there with Scott Stevens).
I was rooting for Vegas for a bit from afar (just because of being an expansion team that everyone hated), but the Flyers will always be my team.
I remember when the Lindros trade happened. There was a hockey pundit who said that Forsberg may well be the best player in that trade. Time has proven him correct. Lindros was good but I'd take Forsberg over him, any day.
Lindros was a very special prospect, but no way all of that extra stuff was needed with how great forsberg turned out to be.
I'm still pissed that Winnipeg took Aaron Ward with the fifth pick leaving Forsberg to go sixth.
@@dannycarlow8204 yeah that’s a rough one. Isles and sharks didn’t fair too much better either
Lol, with that kind of mismanagement, that explains why they moved to the desert. ;)
Would have loved to see him with leclair and amonte tho
Prime amonte with a forsberg would’ve been awesome! Altho zhamnov was no slouch , with Foppa amonte would’ve been a HOFer
Quebec won the Lindros trade with Forsberg alone
@@daveyboy_ I’m a huge lindros fan, but hard to deny
Gotta disagree, lindros was in his prime before the Steven hit a better all around player. Forsberg had better hands , but go watch highlights of lindros in his prime, he was the best player in the league for several years. Now, what we gave up to get him was way way to much. That I agree with. But If lindros stayed healthy and with the teams they had back in the 90s they win multiple cups if they ever freakin got a goalie! Avs had a great goalie and the flyers couldn't get past martie...nuff said.
@@Betteroffdead1 yeah could definitely argue roles reversed Lindros has two cups as 2C behind Sakic. Also on flip side whats forsbergs numbers when he is the undisputed #1 in Philly and playing a ton. Fun what ifs. Both special talents that unfortunately injuries derailed
Peter Forsberg Comes Home...To Philadelphia - Find the title somewhat funny. Philadelphia Flyers drafted Peter Forsberg 6th overall in 1991 but traded him away to the Quebec Nordiques before he had ever skated in the Flyers jersey (In hockey history's biggest trade with him) +
- Steve Duchesne
- Ron Hextall
- Kerry Huffman
- Mike Ricci
- Chris Simon
- Flyer's 1st round pick in 1993 = Elit goalie Jocelyn Thibault 10th overall.
- Flyer's 1st round pick in 1994 = traded away and became Nolan Baumgartner.
- $15 million cash
For the grand prize Eric Lindros (!). With facit in hand - only Forsberg + 1st pick 1993 alone was worth the trade for Nordiques!
And when Forsberg was signed to the Flyers in 2005. they only kept him around 1,5 season before they traded him away.
@@WarioSaysSo yeah all
Covered in the video, just figured some of our younger fans never realized ‘home’ for Foppa was technically Philly
As a lifelong Flyers fan, I enjoy the fact that we get to watch so many highlight videos without having to watch our stars lug around that stupid Stanley Cup. How boring.
@@brokl26 lol, don’t worry I’ll breakdown some LCB line clips on the future
Funny, I Hated the Flyers. Peter was my favorite player. I was so pissed when the league wouldn’t allow Sakic to cut his pay to keep Pete. I decided to go with the team Pete went to… it was the Flyers and I couldn’t get into them cause my dislike
@@chrisphillips348 yeah, tbh the PA probably doesn’t want the headache/pressure of teams asking players to take less with a signed deal. Hard precedent. If I remember the only move was mayyybe to buyout Blake as well- but with Foote and Bourque gone probably not a realistic option.
