Sheesh !!, that definetly, totally just sucks! This spoke to me. Thanks for posting this video, Takes a Real man to put yourself out there with a teachable life lesson at your own expense. I APPLAUD YOUR HONESTY SIR! Thank you.
You have a lifetime more experience with heave equipment than I do. I recently switched the front rims around on my JD 3025E. Now they have about 2-3 more inches of width on each side. It has really helped out the stabilization and I did not have buy wheel spacers. This past week I’ve been working on a steep side hill. While I did not like it, it made the tractor far more stable. Oh and get a quick hitch! You’ll love it. Super easy switching implements. Thanks for putting out great videos.

Thankfully I WASNT buckled as I jumped from the seat (all I could think of was the tractor landing on my legs as I leapt) because when the tractor landed, the seat was smeared down 3’ of the trunk of a big birch tree. Listen to your “spidey senses” when you’re side hilling and back down them vs turning/side hilling at all. Glad you’re ok. Like I said, I can still see it like it was yesterday (when it was 27 years ago) my full load of gravel starting to slide sideways out of my bucket in slow motion wondering what in the hell was happening until my next thought was JUMP!!!! Lol

Id remove the injectors and crank it over and blow fuel and oil out then when you check everything else out and get it running id change the oil too! Glad you are safe!
I've heard of loggers rolling skidders over to pull the bellypan, but this wasn't really needed. Glad you are ok and it looks like an easy fix with just unbolting and remounting the ROPS. Not that it will be cheap, but certainly easy. I have seen Nathan running around in his new tractor with the roll bar not extended up and he needs to see this.
Rops up, seatbelt on, and no injuries. At least you can say that much. I'd let the engine sit for a day or two before trying it. Hope that works out well.
That's not luck, my friend, that's you beeing a good driver! you should always use the seatbelt, and when disaster strike, always STAY ON THE MACHINE! And you did! Respect to you man! Deep Respect! Glad all went well! The JD should be fine after a good rest. ;) Best regards from Norway!
Safety first bro, glad your ok, these mighty machines are worthless if we aren't around to use, and enjoy them. Your a man with great amounts of knowledge, but it happens to the best of us, stay extra safe please bro, keep logging bro!!
That almost happened to me on a Ford 1700. I was shaping a sand trap with a Arps blade and got the tractor pointed straight up . At the last second I jammed on the left brake pedal and the tractor swung around to the left and back down on level ground. Thank God you are ok.
More than lucky! Well done for using the belt and keeping your paws on the wheel, not easy to overcome our instinct to put an arm out but it rarely goes well.
im disabled, got hit by a car... left me with 10 plates, 28 screws and rod in my tibia. ive got a bota l2501 on the way for our land in the n. georgia mts. this freaks me out. what do you recommend to keep this small tractor from roll'n. my bota set up has FEL and 5' box blade. does fill'n the tires help, more weights, wheel spacers, etc. i might not be so lucky next time, my ortho dr told me he's seen his fair share of amputees and broke'n bones due to tractor accidents. glad your safe!
Spacers and filling the tires will both help quite a bit. Other than that, don’t get in a hurry. If your path seems sketchy, try something else. And wear your seatbelt 😬
Be curious what the actual slope was in that spot? I run on the slopes a lot, but never really heard a tipover angle. I only run my seatbelt when I feel tipsy, lol, i think that is SOP in tractor land
i live on a steep property and i never slash sideways to a slope always go straight up and down. my back tires are full of water also for when i turn around sometimes on a slope
and this is why it bugs me when I see guys operating with the ROPS bar folded down on machines where it can fold for transport or storage ( and having a 1050 with a fixed bar, that's a handy option ) "...I was just mowing and..." Your telling this story is all the justification the ROPS should ever need.....it may have seemed slow to you in the seat ( fight or flight reaction etc) but I'll bet it went over pretty fast to anyone watching, once they go over center, they just go. Very glad you are alright. Must have been quite the ride. Staying put and NOT trying to jump clear as it went over must have taken about all the guts you had and maybe some of your kindly neighbor's as well. People get hurt that way. Sure hope that the engine drains and that's all it is. Good Luck and thanks for sharing the teaching moment with us all !!
Get those tires water filled and eliminate this problem. It will lower your center of gravity and also when on a slope get that bucket as low as you can without fear of it hitting the ground. I grew up on a tractor mowing high walls in old strip pits put that bad boy in 2 wheel drive 1st gear and stomp the uphill brake to the floor while counter steering like your drifting a car.You want to run the hill with the tractor 45° to the direction of intended travel.
Glad your ok man. Know a guy that was on a side of a hill and the tractor flipped, he fell off and it rolled over him and he went under the brush hog. Been gone for about 6 and a half years now. Day never goes by that I dont respect the ones that does it for a living. I have two uncles that do it and they go on some steep hills.
@@NorthwestSawyer definitely nothing to play around. If it has a seatbelt best to wear it. Unlike the tractor he was on, it didn't have one. I just checked it didn't flip on him he had jumped off of the tractor as it went to flip and happen to land in the path of where the brush hog went.
@@NorthwestSawyer no doubt about it. I drive a semi and believe I would rather flup on ita side on one of them then on a running tractor with a brush hog or any heavy equipment like that. I know semi's are big but unless you got over a cliff its pretty much going to lay on its side and be done.
Cameras never do steepness justice. They make things look flatter. Wasn't till you had the long shot down the hill could we tell how steep it really is. It is very hilly where I live and even the lightest side hill when going over a gopher mound with the back tire is enough to give her a push over. Side hills are white knucklers for me. Glad you are ok.
Hi Kapper!, Yet to what you said, a low spot or dip unseen from the seat could cause tip over, I had it almost happen cycle bar mowing fence row for my brother in law with a Farmall M , that was just about caused a full blown pucker for me.
That rollover bar paid for itself 10,000 times over today. I had a friend in high school, he was mad because he wrecked his 4 wheeler and split his helmet open. I reminded him that would have been his head had it not been for the $50 helmet.
I have found (through personal experience) that it is much more difficult to get an even mowing when your tractor is in this position relative to earth... I suggest you refrain from repeating this action! (and I'm very glad you are ok...)
My tractor was a slow ride over as well. I was lucky I was able to use the bucket to get it back on its wheels. Be safe my friend. Hoping for a restart after everything settles back down.
Good to see your ok and ya got tractor out. This may help you next time you mow. I may be wrong but from what I could see it looked like it might help if you let your top link out a little. The shredder should ride on the tail wheel before it rides on front skids. If you are on level ground try and adjust your mower and three point so that it sits level or tipped back just a hair and it won't scrape the ground. In turn it helps keep wieght on tractor. May or may not help. Just looked a little funny in video.
That sucks glade you hade role bar only few of my tractors have them and glade your ok you can always fix bent tin safty is best amagin being hurt would caust you every think. God bless you sure
Then engine isn't seized, it rotated a short amount until it hydrolocked. If the engine starts with oil in the cylinders, it could bend or break a connecting rod. Wait 48 hours after uprighting the tractor to allow the oil to drain. Then crank the engine BACKWARDS by hand to check the rotation and feel if there is still any oil in the cylinders. If so, wait another 48 hours. If time is critical, just pull the head and clean the cylinders then re assemble and start.
I'm considering buying a tractor soon (3 series). From the angle of the video the slope did not seem that steep. Is it steeper than it looks or is it easy to turn these tractors over?
I think the grass is hiding the actual slope a bit. That’s pretty much how I ended up this way. I’d had my tractor on three wheels several times in the past and never felt like I was going to roll. This was completely different.
It wasn’t flat ground but it wasn’t very steep either. I think a rear tire rode up on something covered in the grass as I was turning around and it was just barely enough to send me over. It was almost slow motion.
Glad you're ok & didn't get hurt other than maybe your pride. That's proof right there, seat belt & R.O.P.S. doing what they're meant to do. Stay safe.
Glad to see your all in one piece. Things can be fixed , our pride gets over our mistakes. You always have great content but I’m thinking this was a little extreme 😂👍. They always say if it doesn’t kill you it’s makes you stronger so you must be approaching King Kong status by now. Thanks for your videos.
I almost rolled my dads tractor yesterday. Had a loader full of dirt mostly on one side of the bucket. Started reversing on the side of a terrace. I felt the back right tire come off the ground it moved maybe 10 yards on three wheels. I panicked and froze freaking out then bang i felt the back right come down and i was back on 4 wheels. So freaking scary.
@@NorthwestSawyer not gonna lie to you bud. I didnt and i have learned my lesson. First time we have had a tractor with a seat belt. I will make sure i wear it every time from now on.
Over the weekend we were in the valley and stopped in the Pape` store with Andrew. He was looking at chainsaws and the wife and I were looking at John Deer tractors.....am not gonna lie, but my heart sank and got a little sad when I saw this. It looks like you're ok and that's a great thing, but I sure hope she starts up for you this morning, and all that is wrong is a little cosmetic damage to your sun shade. Good luck, buddy!
Glad your ok could have been worse, but anytime you turn a piece of equipment over leave it set a couple hours to let the fluid drain back and check all fluids before you try to start it again.
First of all, I'm glad you're ok and also glad you had the guts to post it. It's a good lesson for everyone. With ROPS up, wear your seat belt. Any idea how steep the slope was? The camera never shows it accurately, but when you were beside it, putting it in neutral, you could tell it was pretty steep.
Glad you were not Injured. The land looks very steep. Did you have ballast in your tires? My understanding of direction one should travel on the hill would be up and down not across. Not an expert here, new tractor owner learning myself. I have steep property also
I was mowing perpendicular to the slope. However, I went to turn around at the bottom of the slope where my smaller tractor would have no problem. This new one was a bit too wide for the area and it just slowly went over. I don’t have fluid in the tires yet.
First of all thank God you weren't hurt! Second of all thank God I was not there! The second you went for the starter you would have been relieved of command. 60K straps are great, if you can get away with it never use a chain. Let that tractor sit with the glow plugs out of it, oil filter off and drain plug out. The next day try turning it over "manually" unhook power source. Live and learn, it's all we can do. I'm glad it happened slow and you didn't lose your head. Next time bring your arms to your chest. the wheel could turn with force and break limbs. Better yet no more next times! lol
Last year an older cousin’s husband drowned when his tractor overturned like yours, pinning him in a shallow pond on his property. The tractor sank at a soft spot causing it to roll over. A passerby had seen him cutting and later saw the tractor wheels up. 911 was called and they found he had drowned. I saw your thumbnail and thought I’d mention this for others to see.
Wow.......sure glad you're ok......glad you had the seat belt on......phone the JD dealer and they will tell you what to watch for in the recovery start up procedure after a roll accident......like I always say my friend.....stay safe....lol....... :)
My question is how did you turn over there, that's not a slope. I've had our tractors on slopes to where the back tires slide down the hill and have never turned one over
It’s very uneven there and hidden by tall grass. I’ve turned my previous smaller tractor around in the same spot before while mowing but this was the first time with my 4 series.
I saw this and just said "OOOH SHIT" glad you were ok,my mom would ask me sarcastically, and what lesson have we learned today Sean I'd hang my head and answer her✌️
Looks like you were using my truck to pull it out with! I have done a lot of brush hogging with a JD 4700. There is a fine line between saving and rolling. I have not rolled but came close. Did you keep the wheels turned to the right up hill? Turning into the roll you may have been able to save it, that has saved me more than once.
That's my biggest fear is a rollover. So much so just a small angle and I chicken out and don't drive it. I now wear a seatbelt even on level ground after cutting hay and dropping my front left tire in a huge armadillo hole. It almost threw me off the tractor!
This is what happens when you get over confident or you are not paying attention or get in a hurry when using equipment. I have never in 45 years plus of driving equipment on the farm and now with my Kubota L2501 ever come close to this. ALWAYS walk the ground BEFORE you mow if you cannot see how the ground lays. Some of you may consider this comment harsh and it is meant to be and it might just save your life!
Do you not have the tires filled, that makes a big difference having all that extra weight. Glad your not hurt, think it will be ok after sitting for awhile, as others have said , I would turn the engine over by hand instead of risking using the starter .
I thought the exact same thing. No weight in the tires. I have always moved with tractors with filled tires and I would not have thought twice about mowing that slope.
it takes an awesome humble human to admit and show a fail like this. Glad you did not get hurt. Good luck with getting it going again...
Thank you!

Sorry for such a hard lesson. Happy to see you're ok and the visible damage to the tractor is minimal. I will keep my fingers crossed for the engine!
Thank you, Roy! She’s up and running. Stay tuned!
Glad you and the tractor are O.k. Thanks for sharing your story. I'm sure this will help save some lives in the future.
I hope so!
Thank God you are ok.
yep people dont relize how quick things happen, good thing ya didnt panic
Wow. Glad you are ok. Maybe there is a lesson for me in this, to wear my seatbelt... I’m glad you were!!
I know I should too. For some reason just never put it on.
glad your ok you either need to pull out the injectors or glow plugs then crank over to pump out fuel /oil on top of pistons hope engine isnt hurt.
I guess high cg, especially with the operator on it 😂😜
So thankful that you’re OK, great job having a seatbelt on. I hope that motor is OK for you, good luck
Thanaks, James.
i live on a steep property and i never slash sideways to a slope always go straight up and down. my back tires are full of water also for when i turn around sometimes on a slope
Turning around was what I Wes doing here too. I haven’t filled my tires yet.
and this is why it bugs me when I see guys operating with the ROPS bar folded down on machines where it can fold for transport or storage ( and having a 1050 with a fixed bar, that's a handy option )
"...I was just mowing and..."
Your telling this story is all the justification the ROPS should ever need.....it may have seemed slow to you in the seat ( fight or flight reaction etc) but I'll bet it went over pretty fast to anyone watching, once they go over center, they just go.
Well said, Greg.
Thank God your all right. Nice recovery. Be safe on those things.
That's my biggest fear also when mowing my place. I have a 4105 JD.
Glad you had your seatbelt on.
Amen!
I’m hearing a lot of stories like this...😔
@@NorthwestSawyer definitely nothing to play around. If it has a seatbelt best to wear it. Unlike the tractor he was on, it didn't have one. I just checked it didn't flip on him he had jumped off of the tractor as it went to flip and happen to land in the path of where the brush hog went.
Terrible way to go.
@@NorthwestSawyer no doubt about it. I drive a semi and believe I would rather flup on ita side on one of them then on a running tractor with a brush hog or any heavy equipment like that. I know semi's are big but unless you got over a cliff its pretty much going to lay on its side and be done.
I’ve been running heavy equipment for 27 years. I’m loading a dozer video as we speak. This is my first time on my side.
You should put calcium in your tires on the rear and wheel weights this will help with tractor stability. You can also get or have made wheel spacers
I'm really glad you're okay. So smart to wear your seatbelt!
Thanks for showing this video of what can happen . You might of saved somebody’s life after they watched this . 👍👍
Glad you didn't get hurt...seat belts are great.
Good recovery! Sure could have been a lot worse no matter rookie or seasoned pro a lot of blindspot sneak up on us! Nice work :-)
Hi Kapper!, Yet to what you said, a low spot or dip unseen from the seat could cause tip over, I had it almost happen cycle bar mowing fence row for my brother in law with a Farmall M , that was just about caused a full blown pucker for me.
That rollover bar paid for itself 10,000 times over today. I had a friend in high school, he was mad because he wrecked his 4 wheeler and split his helmet open. I reminded him that would have been his head had it not been for the $50 helmet.
Good luck. Stay safe bro. Gotta love mom checking things out
I have found (through personal experience) that it is much more difficult to get an even mowing when your tractor is in this position relative to earth... I suggest you refrain from repeating this action! (and I'm very glad you are ok...)
I found out this isn’t the technique for edging your lawn🤣
Glad you're ok. If you had backed into that area while mowing, would that have prevented the rollover?
My old tractor wasn’t as wide. I used to be able to turn around where I was. I should’ve just stayed perpendicular to the slope.
Great lesson for everybody. Sorry about the turn over, call your dealer for advice before trying to start it.
@@NorthwestSawyer Very good to know. Thank you for getting back to me! Looking forward to owning my own Deere.
I’m lost how it turned over on flat ground? Was the loader up?
It wasn’t flat ground but it wasn’t very steep either. I think a rear tire rode up on something covered in the grass as I was turning around and it was just barely enough to send me over. It was almost slow motion.
Glad you are fine now just hope the tractor is the same.
Thank you, Wymer’s Handy Man Service. This definitely sucked some wind out of my sail.
But you had your seatbelt on. Right?
@@NorthwestSawyer not gonna lie to you bud. I didnt and i have learned my lesson. First time we have had a tractor with a seat belt. I will make sure i wear it every time from now on.
You got lucky. I’m no safety nazi but it’s such a simple thing to do. And now you know how easy it is for things to go sideways.
I was lucky, just rolled my brand new little tractor myself. Had 15 hours on it. Learned a quick lesson. Seat belt was on.
Thanks, Gary. I’m afraid to turn the key...
Thank you for sharing
First of all thank God you weren't hurt! Second of all thank God I was not there! The second you went for the starter you would have been relieved of command. 60K straps are great, if you can get away with it never use a chain. Let that tractor sit with the glow plugs out of it, oil filter off and drain plug out. The next day try turning it over "manually" unhook power source. Live and learn, it's all we can do. I'm glad it happened slow and you didn't lose your head. Next time bring your arms to your chest. the wheel could turn with force and break limbs. Better yet no more next times! lol
Wow. that was close, brother. Thank our Heavenly Father for his protection.
Thanks for sharing. Glad your ok. Does insurance cover damage?
Man, what a bummer.. glad to you're in ok.
Glad your Ok. The tractor should be fine just let it sit for a bit.
Friend of mine was killed when his tractor rolled. About 1989. Was a marine helo pilot for 20 years. Be safe.
ludvig tande that roof may have helped keep the tractor from going over on top of him.
Thanks, Don. I got her running. The video, of course, is posting😬
That sucks Jason. At least you’re okay and like you said, it could have been worse.
I saw this and just said "OOOH SHIT" glad you were ok,my mom would ask me sarcastically, and what lesson have we learned today Sean I'd hang my head and answer her✌️
That’s funny! My mom was actually at my house when this happened. She couldn’t see me over the hill but heard the crunch and the engine turn off.
@@NorthwestSawyer that's funny have a good day Sir
Looks like you were using my truck to pull it out with!
I have done a lot of brush hogging with a JD 4700. There is a fine line between saving and rolling. I have not rolled but came close.
Did you keep the wheels turned to the right up hill? Turning into the roll you may have been able to save it, that has saved me more than once.
I literally sat there for what felt like forever Waiting to see if I was going over or not. It was a slow roll for sure.
I keep the loader full of gravel and low to the ground when on hills helps abit.
The most important thing is you are ok, stuff happens and to repeat previous comments...I'm glad you had your seatbelt on.
Glad you survived that unfortunate accident. Could have been disastrous!
Hope the diesel recovers as well...
Doug@ the "ranch"
Thanks, Doug! It took some work but she’s running again. Stay tuned!
You lucked out. Thank goodness for ROPS.
And seat belts.
Bill Bet he had the front end loader up high for visibility !!!! That will tip you every time !!!!
