    I'm a company driver w/Schneider and what you say is true. I am treated with common human decency! Which as many of you know, is pretty rare in this business. I like working here. Laughter is commonly heard in the offices. And I agree with what you say...the quality of my life is MY responsibility!
    All the best to ya friend! Use those cleats when it's icy out!! 8D

    Please give me some pointers, steer me the right way, whatever. I’ve been at this for 4 weeks. It’s not going to work for me and my family, if things don’t change. I watched every video you made, how you bounce between OH,PA,WV and sometime out of your comfort zone. I would love to do the same thing. My comfort zone maybe a little wide that yours.
    I love SE of Pittsburgh, along I 70, Smithton truck stop

    I am thinking about attending a truck school. They work with Schneider. I watched the whole video and never heard a word about the money. Is Owner Operator much more than Co driver? I’ve been driving Class B trucks 20 years. Garbage trucks. I feel like a really good candidate for this bc I am single and have no kids. Is it 6 figures???? How is the money like as a OOp at Schneider? I enjoyed the video. Please help...

    Welcome aboard, nice to see a good, accurate and honost video, you're so right about playing the blame game, I see so many drivers both company and contractors blaming the company instead of looking in the mirror at themselves. Keep the positve attitude and you'll do well it's a great program imho.

    I really like your video and for the most part,I like the way you take time to answer everyone's replies.
    I'm leaving an l/p reefer after 6 1/2 years and headed to SNI 11/14 already have truck picked out.
    I'll be doing 1 year lease on a new Cascadia,... lil pricey but it's just for one year and I have money and credit....Just wanted to see how I like it before making a big commitment on buying a truck.
    I've been successful in l/p so not afraid to give this a try, plus I really miss dry van.
    I see a 90% positive feedback from so many SNI choice drivers I feel that I am ready for the change.
    Hopefully I'll see you on down the road.

    I was thinking of buying a used truck with Schneider, preferably 2016 freightliner around $34,000 with 500,000 miles. I don’t want to lease at all rather but used and owner op with Schneider. Would you recommend going the route with used instead of those huge lease weekly payments? I just need to net about 2,000 to 2,500 weekly is that reasonable? I don’t have huge expenses at home, my monthly bills are only about 1500 .

    • @sberger6604
      @sberger6604  4 роки тому +1

      With low overhead at home, a used truck would serve you well. $2,000 to $2,500 per week is not unreasonable to net with a smaller monthly payment. But you have to keep in mind that you would be buying a used truck with a lot of miles on it. So you need to be diligent and set back plenty for breakdowns and build your own maintenance fund. If you spend enough in repairs, you may find that an SFI truck would cost you about the same money. Used trucks are a roll of the dice. But I will say that Schneider fleet trucks are well maintained and you would have access to all the maintenance records. Also keep in mind that if you are trying to come on relatively soon, I don't believe they are taking outside trucks right now. Even if you bought a used truck from Schneider National, that is not the same as getting a truck from SFI. Just something to think about. Best of luck!

    Is it possible to lease purchase through Schneider and take 48 hours home every week? Schneider advertising says you can ale up to $1000 per day. With that said, the numbers show you could meet payments within the first 2-3 days. After that, all runs would be gross minus fuel and truck percentage. Or, are the numbers not realistic?

    • @sberger6604
      @sberger6604  7 років тому +5

      variator05 It is not impossible to take 2 days off but it all depends on your situation and what you need to make. I have had days where I made $750 to $800 in a single day and I have had days where I made $300 in a single day. To expect to make $1000 a day is not realistic. If it were that easy everybody would be doing it LOL. It's tough in the beginning until you learn the loaf board. Once you have a good handle on it then It becomes easier.

    This sounds great for me! Right now I'm a company driver for Schneider for 1.5years. I'm 3:30 minutes in so you might touch on this.....how much experience should I have and how much money should I have saved to start?

    • @sberger6604
      @sberger6604  5 років тому

      Experience wise is hard to say because some people take to trucking faster and easier than others. You just have to evaluate how much you feel you understand about the business. Do you recognize freight lanes? Do you understand how the cost of fuel affects your bottom line? Are you prepared for downtime in the event of a breakdown? Are you comfortable with not having taxes withheld and are you disciplined enough to save for that? Things such as those are just a small part of it. So there no real answer I can give you for experience. But i would have at least $5000 minimum saved as a cushion to get started. Schneider makes it easy and they dont want you to fail. But you still need a fail safe cushion to start. Hope this helps.

    • @sberger6604
      @sberger6604  4 роки тому

      You can do well on short hops from the Dallas / Fort Worth area staying within Texas. But if you are going to leave Texas, depending on what area you go to you can take a hit. There are good loads you can run that keep you in that area. For example TX to OK and back or even TX to LA (Louisiana) and back. Hope this helps.

    • @sberger6604
      @sberger6604  4 роки тому +1

      To be honest I would not jump right into owning a truck. Schneider will not let you lease on with zero experience. But owning a truck is more than just delivering loads. The freedom is nice BUT just because you can be home whenever you want it doesn't mean you should go home often. My advice is to cut your teeth while someone else pays for fuel, tolls, repairs, etc...and learn the industry. You may find you don't like it. Just my opinion man. Hope it helps!

    • @sberger6604
      @sberger6604  7 років тому

      bringjeffthehorizon Since you've done it you know that it is what you make it. I have had bad weeks and great weeks here (money wise). But after all expenses, if I take home the same as I did as a company driver, I'm ok with that. I got to pick my own load and I decided when I went home. To me the best thing about this is the freedom. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. It's like I said before...this isn't for everybody and that's ok. Hopefully all is working out for you now.

    • @sberger6604
      @sberger6604  5 років тому +2

      There are no trailer fees. It is possible to average $1500 per week after expenses but it will depend on the lanes you run AND how hard your willing to work. It will be harder to do that if you have an SFI truck. If you have your own truck it is easier to accomplish that because you will not have that big weekly payment.

    Nice to see a balanced evaluation of a program. Even though there wasn't much negative, lol. I'm an old business guy just getting into trucking. I really wish I didn't need experience because I'd sign up for the program now. Do you recommend doing your company driving with them prior to transitioning?

    Any owner operater that makes 2.00 a mile or under. Good luck. I do hot shots. I make an average 2.80 a mile min. Running a f750 flat bed. Average loads 10k to 25k pounds. Anything under 2.00 you would eventually go broke. I been trying to see if a can get a semi. But it ridiculous. Lesase tp purchased .80 to 1.75 a mile. No thanks. I have done loads 50 miles only and they paid me 850 for em. I averagely gotten loads 600 miles and gotten paid 2400. For them. Not running a semi. Thats 4 a mile. Any company's trying to pay you under 2. Dont do it. They are making you there slaves.

    • @sberger6604
      @sberger6604  6 років тому +2

      I appreciate your opinion but that is simply not true. I do not average $2.00 per mile here but I am doing quite well. My net after all expenses is a lot more than it was as a company driver. Running on the spot market you could make $2 or more average but at Schneider that is difficult. However you can still do well here. I am proof of that.

    • @Dangers_of_the_Internet
      @Dangers_of_the_Internet 5 років тому

      That's not true at all. Almost no company is paying $2 a mile. Lease to purchase does work. You're not getting rich, but you're making the same or more than company drivers. The exception is the freedom you have over being a company driver and those that care and know do know how important that is. I personally made it work pretty well as a lease purchase driver. I quit because I quit driving, but the O/O was working just fine.

    Great video. A question I have is, do you have e-logs or paper logs and do they install the e-logs when you lease on with the company? . I have been over the road off and on since 1988 and I found when I owned my own I was the happiest. Want to do it again but am leary I guess about the companies out there. I want a good one and don't want all my check to go into a truck payment. Thanks

    • @sberger6604
      @sberger6604  8 років тому

      We do run e logs. They will install your Qualcomm during orientation. You pay $50 per week for the first 20 weeks into escrow to cover the Qualcomm and other damages. After your lease is up and if you decide to turn your truck in you get that money back.

    Steve I am researching the possibilities of becoming a driver, though with all the information in the internet, Im having difficulty trying to figure out where should I get my training for my CDL? It sounds as if I take training from a company I could be contracted to work for them at least a year.
    and on the other hand Technical schools require around $7k and company are charging $3k
    What is your recommendations Thank you and that was some great information:-)

    • @sberger6604
      @sberger6604  5 років тому

      It really depends on your situation. If you can avoid going through a company sponsored training program I would because as you said you are signing a contract to work for them for a certain amount of time. If you break the contract you are still on the hook for the money...although it would be pro rated. Paying on your own gives you more freedom. Although you have the upfront cost, you will not be obligated to anyone. Either way you are going to pay..and if you go to a regular school a lot of companies offer tuition reimbursement programs. Just do your homework on the school or company before you sign up. I have a few videos on this topic that I did a long time ago. If you look back at some of my first videos you will see them. The info in there may help you out. Best of luck!

      Schneider does not have a training program to teach you to drive anymore. You will have to go to a Schneider approved school, get your CDL and then go through their finishing program. • @sberger6604
      @sberger6604  7 років тому +1

      steven lesher I don't know how Crete works so I couldn't tell you. The only thing I can tell you is that over here you have a broader load selection. You choose where you want to go and what you want to do. Crete only gives you a few options and has you choose from what they offer you. Otherwise I don't know how they pay or the costs etc... As far as income goes you are not going to get rich doing this. You control what you make so if you want to work hard you can make good money. After all my expenses I make about 25% more doing this than I did as a company driver.

    • @albduke
      @albduke 7 років тому

      Tarasov I prefer to keep myself booked out at least 2 to 3 days. But there are times when I have been booked out 7 days and there are times when I book day to day. There are a lot of variables that determine how you will book yourself. But there is no limit to how far out you can go.
