- God is descending on Minneapolis in the form of invisible spliffs and imaginary lines of coke. The Drunken Glory movement-spawned by events like the Florida Outpouring and Toronto Blessing in the 90s, at which people appeared to be inebriated and high purely off the power of God-is on the rise, as godly UA-cam channels find innovative ways of reaching their younger audience.
One of those channels, Red Letter Ministries, is run by former meth addict Brandon Barthrop. We went to Brandon's hometown of Minneapolis, which boasts the largest concentration of drug addicts and churches in America, to try to get high on the glory of God.
Brandon and his posse of waifs, strays, and former addicts spend their days sniffing "diamond oil" and tripping out to the sound of Brandon's UA-cam preaching. Christian EDM DJs down the road are going to raves and attempting to "heal" clubbers high on drugs, and mega-churches run by rehab charities like Teen Challenge are preaching the drunken glory to thousands.

You can try on yourself, I don't think you can get high by placebo. Placebo is more like motivation for hope and to believe, it was made by some doctors. Some healing evangelists even disproved that they are not using placebo, they didn't even say anything, they stretched their hand, being far away from person and the perosn god healed. You can try to instill it to yourself... but it doesn't work this way. Hypnotism.. probably everything is a trans and hypnotism.. whether it's drugs, flowers on the field, movies, or whatever. Everyone is in a trans, but the question is in which one? Talking about placebo, even you heard John Crowder said: "Believe it or not, see it or not... feel it or not... doesn't really matter, because that's the truth." So there's nothing to do with pressing down people's choice and their will what they want to do. I personally met John Crowder couple times... read some of his books. He's a good guy, talking wise things, sharing Grace Message, full of freedom, joy and love. God uses him well, despite whatever "religious donuts" tell about him. Effect with glass of water or orange juice and you get drunk or high? What are you smoking dude? I give charge to you to get into ecstasy state? Probably you are just playing with your mind, but that's not good, making intellectual efforts or whatever. And what about those people (christians), who NEVER tasted alcochol, smoke or something? I never used drugs for example and I experienced divine heavenly ecstasies couple times. And there are people, who never tried any of those things, but they got to the Right Heavenly Thing of God. I don't care what you think or believe. For me it doesn't change the facts.
Whatever. I don't try to practice placebo. Then probably life is full of Placebo effect... I doesn't really matter, it's just attempt in trying to explain something, and people use different psychological terms or whatever. I suggest you to check out Pete Cabrera healing on the street people and disproving the idea of placebo effect. If everyone would experience, everyone would believe... God is not forcing anyone to believe. There's no love in it, if I just believe, because I experience it. It's not just about experiences, though I love them, it's about higher reality. And even though, actually God is everywhere, His Presence, I can sense it everywhere... and I remember when I was even unbeliever talking with my christian friend, when he talked to me, I felt strange atmosphere... though I wasn't walking in personal relationship with God, I didn't accept Jesus that time yet... I was just listening and experiencing smth strange and bizarre atmosphere. I just couldn't explain it. Later I understood.. it was God's Presence. People aren't just aware of it... He's everywhere.. They actually do experience at least little bit, they don't recognize. Because it's recognized when you hear the truth. God's ways are mysterious, our union with Christ is not seen with an open eye, but it's manifesting outwardly, as we just trust Him for that. And actually, God is Able, and everyone can experience that. I don't really care if someone is not experiencing, God is not just about emotional roller-costal... Experiences just support the faith itself. I know about the power of mind and imagination, but hey... God gave it to humankind! And if someone would attend meetings like John Crowder's they would see that he is very real about those things. You really can see those people are not faking (Check out Dave Vaughan on Big Brother show). And me myself... Some people are just 100% sure I'm using drugs or pills or something. I never used drugs in my life... but I do experience ecstatic presence. And those people are atheists... and they see that I'm not playing or making it up. If that would be only about "mind thing"; then everyone would search enjoyment through intellectual excersizes... I'm not saying it's totally impossible... May be it's possible, but I'm not doing just that. And I see people prefer drugs and things... so that means "your mind thing idea" is not effective much. Even if you can experience it's to the certain degree. Even African tribes... they are using drums, dancing and sometimes even drugs... some plants or things that affect them. So that concept of power of mind doesn't help you much out. Yeah, it's powerful, but it's very limited and very dependent. It's more emotional game than real spiritual experience. And I had those also sometimes, when I didn't took rest or keep peace in my heart. But I like original and real Heavenly Experience. So your theory doesn't convince me much.. even I myself, I don't work hard for some intellectual ability to use the power of mind. I'm not denying the imagination abilities... but I beg you to get yourself into Divine Ecstasy, like those guys or some church mystics, who lives in trances and ecstasies. I saw a lot of crazy and bizarre things in my life. And I don't need to prove it. If someone wants to know better, I just encourage to attend those meetings by themselves, not spreading philosophy and rational skeptical thinking about it with very far away outlook... God bless! This reminds me of a prank my friends and I pulled when we were kids. There was this kid who would steal from all of us and lie about it. He was full of shit and we wanted to call him out. I remember there was a small "Christian Raver" collective in South Minneapolis (Uptown/Powderhorn Park area - late 90s) that would occasionally host after-hours parties. They were pretty cool, you just couldn't do drugs or drink at their house, and they would serve tea to attendees. They had some trippy multi-media art that was a weird conglomeration of cyberpunk and Christianity (the one piece that sticks out in my brain is a cross made from broken circuit boards). I wonder if this is connected to that.

I actually met this guy when i was in High school. He came with the Teen Challenge group to tell us how drugs are bad and how they affect your life. During that presentation he came off as very shy and did not say much.
This is really weird that i see this years later on youtube, he acts like a totally different person and looks a bit happier. When he was visiting my highschool, he was with a few other ex-drug addicts and a Teen challenge rep. He mostly looked at the ground and when it came his turn to speak he said something along the lines that it will ruin your life and there are better ways to live your life. Upvote this if you want me to visit his so called church and record the whole thing.

Nah. It's true. Been there done that. I went from being a heroin addict snorting so many bags a day I don't even remember to having an entire church pray over me for hours a day for many days with laying of hands. And it does get you high. You feel an intense heat that spreads through your body. You start immediately weeping and you have no idea why. Not out of fear, anger, or anything. You're just weeping because of the feeling of absolute pure love.
After getting through the withdrawals, I would start laughing and crying just seeing the absolute pure beauty of the world. Every tree every leave every flower. Every person I saw. Everything.
It also allowed me to feel once again the absolute evil that lurks in the places where you're doing drugs. It got to the point that I would be physically shaking and vibrating from being in the basement at the house I had been doing dope at and living at...just from the spirits that were there. I've experienced that every since actually. I cleared away so much garbage out of my spirit, it made me extremely hypersensitive to things of the other side. More so than I already was since a child, having many crazy experiences and premonitions and visions. Until you experience it, don't judge it. I don't miss dope one bit. I miss the high I had constantly from being in the presence of God at all times, and then I relapsed and screwed up taking pain medication after a surgery. It's taken me almost 7 years to get back to the point I was at before to feel connected and a rush even somewhat close as I did way back when I had the laying of the hands for days and steady prayer and worship and bible studies.
