Had this once in a restaurant in upper New York State, about 25 years ago. Always wondered how they did it, now I know - and can try it myself. Thanks, love the channel, keep ‘em coming.
I've never tried making a Blooming Onion Jack, but this looks so good I may give it a go (I love onion cooked any way . . . but not raw,) That mayo sounds amazing too! As ever TFS, and have a great weekend! 👍💖
I agree, with one exception: I find a couple of slices of really thin cut raw yellow onion (I mean like almost "see-through") is the biz in a cheddar cheese sarnie. Mouth-wateringly savory! In fact, think I'm gonna make one now!
Thanks for sharing this deliscious starter! I haven't had it since I was in Jacksonville, Fla. 30 yrs ago...and that was at an _Outback Steakhouse_ . I've always wondered how they made it.
You must be real fun in the kitchen.. could not help but had a good laugh over your lost Mayo jar...this dish looks so good and that final crunch sound was fantastic.. someday will treat myself with it.. Thank you dear....take care and stay safe 💕💕💕💕
Haha 😂 I can’t believe I did that I said to myself I’ll quickly move the camera to the next angle and hope it doesn’t fall but it was always going to happen haha 😂
This was one of the most memorable things I ate while in the US - but weirdly, it was at an Outback Steakhouse. So as a Kiwi, eating something American in an Aussie-themed restaurant was a bit of a laugh! Pretty sure they served theirs with 1000 island dressing. Love the content mate, keep it up!!
Haha yeah it’s funny they have the Outback Steakhouse in US but not in Australia where it’s targeted. Happy to hear you love the content! Thank you so much 😊
@@ChefJackOvens Hi Chef J.O.😄! In fact I DID make it right after watching and it was "Heavenly" !! AND!! I made the meatballs and spaghetti the day after👌 and it was Fantastic! Thank you🥰
OMG! I love blooming onion. That and the Kookaburra Wings are my absolute favorites from Outback. My knife skills aren't the best so I guess I can just make onion rings. But I'll probably copy the flour mixture and the dip. LOL!
Awesome recipe! We have onion fritters here in India too, although we make it with red onion and a chickpea batter. You could make this with red onion too right? Oh yes, we here usually finish our fritters with black salt; it adds a complex, slightly sulphurous note which works really well!
My onion-rings-loving brother will love this one for sure. Is it ok to use smaller onions and make a number of small blooming onions? You saying "blooming onion" reminds me of a Tom and Jerry episode they were with Robin Hood and Jerry and another mouse were looking for the key to Robin's cell after he was arrested to set him free while Tom tries to stop them; so for the most part of the episode they were looking for the key and every time they spot it they say "the bloomin' Key" 🤣. Ok that's somehow a weird comment about a cooking video😅. Thank you for the recipe💐
@@ChefJackOvens thanks chef, is that at a 1:1 ratio? I'm finding some gluten free substitutes to be much more complicated than just using normal flour :/
It depends on which oil variant your using. Each will have a different mass weight due to their processing procedures and what’s been added and what’s been removed. I weigh all my ingredients and do all the conversions myself so it will work for you guys.
Good recipes but I have a question for you: I speak English for 50 years as a second longuage… I have experience on English spoken by English… by Americans… by Asians… Australians… even by Arabic countries… without problem… and YOU… I can’t follow !!! Question: MY problem… or YOURS ???

Hi Jack thank you for the video on making blooming onion.
Always a pleasure
Sorry I laughed when the cup fell off the bench, I admire the fact you left it in the video.
Haha that’s the reason I left it in because it’s funny 😆
That's amazing. I have never seen anything like that before. Brilliant Jack.
Many thanks!

this looks good. can this blooming onion be air-fried or using oven instead of deep frying? if yes, what would be the temperature to use and time?
It can but I’ve never done it before so i can’t promise it’s turn out

Very nice! Yeah you can use red onion but brown is better for this style
Wow so nice!
🤤🤤
Good to see it’s not only myself that’s occasionally a wrecking ball in the kitchen ! 🤣
😅
I am making this tonight.
Blooming garlic next ! 🤤
And I’m sorry to hear about the accident ! Oh no…

Goddamnit Jack, now I have to make this too! 😄

Soooo envious. Too lazy to cook and too late to eat now. Why did I not leave watching this till tomorrow?
Haha 😂
Is there an outback steakhouse in the UK?
There was when I lived in uk but not sure now
Finally a UA-cam cook who can say Worcestershire properly
Haha 😂
Can you put in in an air fryer? … just wondering? It’s pretty big, but two together maybe ok?
I’ve never done it in an air fryer so I can guarantee it’s going to work but I’m sure it will be fine
RIP Beaker 2022
My hearts broken 💔 haha 😂
Awesome recipe Chef! Could you do something deep fried that is gluten free?
just use corn/potato starch instead of flour, it will probably be even crispier
Anything deep fried can be substituted with it’s gluten free alternatives 😊

@@ChefJackOvens thanks chef, is that at a 1:1 ratio? I'm finding some gluten free substitutes to be much more complicated than just using normal flour :/

Plz make barbecue chicken
Bbq as in the cooking style or bbq sauce chicken?
@@ChefJackOvens COOKING BTW IM FROM SOUTH INDIA WE USE LOTS OF SPICES U CAN MAKE A AMERICAN AND INDIAN FUSION
The thing with the handle 😑😑always happen ,thank you for the recipe
I tried many times now to use cumin in my cooking since I saw Jack using it often. After so many tries I must say that I really dislike it.
The spices aren’t for everyone but it really doesn’t stand out too much in this one and the combination of flavours is amazing
200ml of oil is not the same amount as 200g of oil, it's about 184g. The difference is probably negligible when cooking but it's not the same.
It depends on which oil variant your using. Each will have a different mass weight due to their processing procedures and what’s been added and what’s been removed. I weigh all my ingredients and do all the conversions myself so it will work for you guys.
Honestly that looks pretty lol
*The double-coated onion is too heavy for my liking. I would prefer a light Japanese tempura batter instead.* 🇺🇸🗽
It’s only coated once 😊
@@ChefJackOvens If not twice, then I should have said heavily coated 😊.

I would say YOURS!!! To my ears Jacks accent is more English than Australian.
