- Here's an intro to the spectrum analyzer. I show waveforms on the signal generator, the oscilloscope, and the spectrum analyzer. The spectrum analyzer is the Rigol DSA 815 that I purchased used from Brad Rich, N6GR. Lots of interesting things you can do with the spectrum analyzer.

Great video Dave, I purchased the Rigol DSA 815 a few months ago to assist in my learning for the Canadian advanced amateur certificate.
Great demo, Dave! Thanks and 73!

Hi Dave,
What a coincidence. Was just looking at that spectrum analyzer Tuesday evening on Ebay. Stay safe. 73 WJ3U
Nice set up of Rigols, I have the set of same equipment but the Siglent set.
Thanks Dave. Another good video. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Dave. Another informative video...73 from downunder!

Good information, would like to see more on how to used it for tested circuits
TNX Dave...my bench is also populated with several Rigol boxes, good stuff... 73 - Dino KLØS
awesome video
Hey Dave, you might consider attenuating your signal to -30dbm. A lot of spectrum analyzers start to get over loaded as you go above that. I haven't used this particular model, but you will probably have a better/truer display of the signal.
Thanks for the tip!
how to use SCPI protocol to stop locking functions?
I’d like to see the spectrum analyser and tracking generator with a selection of filters, and maybe the same with the noise source.
Nice piece of equipment. Thank you for sharing. 73 de KG7LOI
very nice device.
Nice video!!
Do you have a video explaining what harmonics are?
There's an explanation in the Tech series videos. Basically, a harmonic is a frequency that is an integer multiple (2, 3, 4, etc.) of the fundamental frequency. Generally we try to suppress harmonics as they are undesirable.
As I am sure you know all periodic signals can be represented by an infinite summation of sin waves hence this might be a great opportunity to introduce the Fourier series. I think it really drives home why a nonlinear signal splatters across the band and why filtering is so important.
Good idea
I do miss using test equipment....
Maybe tune a couple cans to use as a cavity filter? There's even some plans to make your own fur UHF out of coffee cans out there somewhere if you want to homebrew them.
price of the complete setup? 5 grand?
No, nowhere near that. Maybe 2 grand.
👌👏👏
Nice new tool. Can I buy your old one ? No need letting your hp spectrum analyzer collect dust 😉KC3ONO
Kevin, this is my first spectrum analyzer, so no old one to sell.
David Casler lucky duck getting that one very good Dave. Looking forward to seeing you get on the top band. Looks like you have enough to get a full size 160 up 😉 KC3ONO
