This has damaged me. Every time i attend a conference or presentation now all i can think of is this video.
😆😆😆😆
Good. 90% of them are full of it.
Well, you’re a perfect candidate for my self-help PowerPoint seminar and workshop, which only exist in the back corner of my mind, that space that I usually have rented out for someone else’s household storage…
Good
That talk was more important than any other TED talk I've ever seen. I feel deeply indebted to this man for helping to clarify my all thoughts on, well, everything. My world will never be the same, particularly now that I have seen a photo of it.
And 36,000. Who knew? You can't forget a number like that.
Embarrassingly accurate. It should be shown to every person who intends to do a TED talk. I do not think I will ever be able to watch another one of their talks without thinking of this guy!
it should be shown to every person who intends to be a TED talk AUDIENCE member
I'm replying to this comment 7 years late but: I just got selected to do a Ted Talk, and I solemnly swear to follow every damn cliche here :D
@@polarispictures5876 😂
Quote something from the video because you have nothing to add to the discussion. Then hope that simply quoting the video will get you likes on your comment.
I disagree with that quote, in a somewhat passive-aggressive way, without really having any good counter arguments! ARGH!
I instantly become offended by the disagreement and start insulting the poster by questioning his intellectual abilities and the size of genitalia.
[Defends the original comment with a straw man]
[Calls you a derogatory name]
[Red Herring]
[Black and white thinking]
[Another derogatory name]
Adding a picture of a pop star sitting at the cinema and eating popcorn
Joins conversation having not watched the video and asks, "is this the video where a thought leader talks about being a thought leader?" Ends with a smiley to compensate for pure laziness. :-)
"Let's look at a picture of the planet for no reason" is when I first burst out laughing. Perfect delivery.
Al Gore won a Nobel Prize by doing this
best Ted talk I have seen.
every Ted Talk I have seen.
Disagree, I am sure I saw one once with a Juggler
That was no Ted talk, it was a Fatboy Slim vid.
But it's not a TED Talk. :)
True, there is a Ted which is exactly the same.
My favorite part is easily "that is a world I want to live in." So genius.
Humble head nod
Sharp emotional segue about how this video inspired and comforted me after a horrendous family tragedy which I share with everyone here in excruciating detail.
I thought I was the only one.
Lovely photo
I love that the audience didn't break character
They did actually when he was laughing, that was annoying it broke the set up
You guys have to be joking...
Me too. I bet it was fun to be in that audience for the filming.
...because you are witnessing a clueless herd of sheep that have NO IDEA that they're having their undershorts pulled over their heads and too pretentious to suss out that perhaps, the "the Emperor Is Naked".
@@troyevitt2437 The audience is in on the joke. Obviously. This is a comedy sketch.
Pedantic comment about how he's wrong. Link to website with no real basis of information to make myself feel smarter than I really am. Challenging public opinion on this video because I want to be different.
Re-describing your comment about how he's wrong in a derogatory manner; flashing an unearned self satisfied derisive smile believing I've made a point.
Comment on your sexuality and point out how first the comment was right.
Off color rant about your "obvious" political leanings, lack of manners and poor taste in clothing for which there is no basis. Link to Aristotle's Wiki page to "prove" my intellectual superiority punctuated by unfounded proclamation of fact "HE agrees with me!"

Compulsive comment solely for the purpose of feeling included.
Returning to this video several years later because it was so profound. I rewatch, and comment, intimating my deeper understanding of it with the passage of time.
Posting in 2020, after watching an actual TED Talk in a work meeting.
I immediately agree with everything this man has to say and will quote bits of this to my friends to seem like I came to this conclusion by myself and get furiously angry when someone asks a simple question I can't answer about it.
Cliché comment or anecdote regarding being inspired, awe-struck, provoked into thought. . . etc. . .
Accusation of having misconstrued the point of the talk. Reference to middle eastern politics followed by strained parallel to 30's Germany..
Rebuttal to your accusation with irrelevant quote. Passionate, yet weak argument, followed by personal experience anecdote. Direct insult to your persona.
I'm going to bring this thread together with a comparison to Hitler so that any one scanning these comments can see that productive conversation has ended
Defensive overly personal irrelevant reply punctuated by three exclamationPOINTS!!!
Incredibly weak argument about why this is exactly like a current political personality that I despise, and the statement "this is what is wrong with ______ today".
Comment about speaker's greatness and how I knew him in college. He was a jerk then, but he's come a long way. (emoticon) (post)
Counter comment from another childhood friend who hoped that presenter showed so much promise and bemoans that he is reduced to this so called career.
Comment is immediately deleted by channel owner for use of hate speech.
Now I know how to do presentations...
now you know you're a thought leader.
36,000?
Okay, but how do I become a visionary? I hear they make better bank.
+Doyle Harken by leading thoughts
Humble head nod!
Possibly the greatest thing I've ever seen. 100% genius.
I've only been able to watch a couple of TT because they make me feel like I'm being softened up to join a cult. This is too perfect.
Right?
Highbrow infotainment.
Well, not perfect. He believes this format sucks everyone in. If that were the case, I’d be sucked into every talk using this presentation, but actually, I’ve watched a number of unconvincing ones using this very structure.
Perfectly stated
I don't get it? Most of the ones I watched just felt like regular presentations.
A fine piece of satire. TED has popularized a style of speaking that, despite having advantages, is also formulaic and too often serves as a vessel for the aggrandizement of vapid establishment pablum.
Shallow and pedantic
"...a vessel for the aggrandizement of vapid establishment pablum". I haven't learned this many new words from a single sentence in years! Best part is that what you just said is NOT aggrandizement of vapid establishment pablum, but quite true actually.
didn't do so great on the GRE huh?
he said "pablum" lol
[Pretend to know the meaning of aggrandizement and pablum. Feel a little smarter.]
Is this the training all Apple ceo's have to take?
You can apply that to every Silicon Valley presentation since Jobs invented the formula (did he ?).
+Luis Castro Lopes once the sneakers come on board...shit gets real!
This and the ability to speak in a nurturing Australian accent
There's a nurturing Australian accent?
DEVELOPERS!!! DEVELOPERS!!!
This is one of the most brilliant comic pieces I've ever seen.

dude that presentation was so deep. I think I just learned everything
Next time a have to give a presentation at work I'm going to do all this bullshit. Everyone's going to be so impressed. I'll probably be getting that big promotion and raise I've been waiting fruitlessly for for some time.

That talk was simply amazing, "meaningless" and suprisely insightful in the same time. He was just like the brave boy pointing out that the emperor didn't wear fancy clothes, but literately nothing.
That guy who had a long TED talk about how he made his movie with passion in 7 years, having a mere budget of a few million Euros.
The movie was crap.

who was that guy?
Nicolas Forzy?
instaBlaster...
This is genuinely one of the best videos to help people improve their on stage presentation skills.
Now that.... is a world I want to live in.
Ironically, you could present this at a TEDTalk as a primer or blueprint for how to do a TEDTalk, therefore the parody actually becomes an instructional how-to presentation.
Love the pie charts and the graphs, and use of photograph of the earth, impressive, or rather meant to be impressive or making fun of how impressive it’s supposed to be. Good stuff I enjoyed this video a lot and yes… I’m a huge fan of TEDTalks.
36, 000?!
This guy knows what he's talking about.
If you believe that, you've been drinking the koolaid. WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!!
To appearing smart we can start the discussion if the alternative hypothesis of 42,000 is more likely considering the discussion between Smart and Person.
Its OVER 9000, so it must be true.
It's 4X greater than 9,000!
This very much like every single educational seminar that I have ever attended. Brilliant. My head is now full of thoughts.
this is the most, MOST important TED talk I have ever watched. watching this video was part of my LIR 10 class. Thank you professor Williams for sharing this monumental TED talk that has forever changed my views on TEDs. reminds me of Allen Savory and his BS TED talk on "holistic grazing" and how it will save the world.
also remember that Elizabeth Holmes did a very popular TED talk
😂 look where she is now
Priceless - I have sat through so many of these 'thought leader' TED presentations. Nailed It!!
I've seen many writeups on how to give a ted talk. THIS is the most lucid. Beautifully done.
Painfully accurate.
"See someone I know." "Humble head nod." Love this!
CBC gets it right sometimes. This is one of those times. Great stuff.
yeah sometimes
Here I am posting a comment that is tangentially related to this talk.
I am replying to this comment, making personal attacks because of your opinion, and asking the trolls to come into this comment thread.
I shared this talk to my entire network, without watching it, just make myself look like I think the thought leader's thoughts were important.
I just clicked thumbs-up on your comment, and thumbs-down on a comment I disagreed with because I want to shape other people's opinions by trying to suppress comments I don't like.
I am replying your comment, but I'll relate this to a feminist issue somehow.
Spouts some completely unrelated new-age BS and proclaims that if you weren't so entrenched in X-political ideology it'd be obvious to you as well.
Had I been in the audience, I would have embarrassed myself cackling hysterically non-stop
私は日本語しか理解できないのでこの人がとても素晴らしいことを話しているように見えます
By far the most useful and thoughtful Ted Talk I've seen.
So good. It's about time someone parodied the silly mess TED has become....
Thank you.
People are really stupid when, criticizing this post, do you know I searched for thought leadership videos all over UA-cam to understand thought leadership and this is actually the best video I came across, am super surprised people are actually talking shit,
This is the best video of the year for me. And best presentation. 👍👍👍👍❤️❤️
Having just come from a class with project managers where anTed Talk was shown to kick the day off... I can't stop laughing at this. This is good.
This video shouldn't be 'unlisted'. It's absolutely perfect.
One of the best TED talks I've ever seen!
This may be the first CBC content I've ever appreciated.
A template for TED talks. LOVE IT!
Thomas Edison has got nothing on this for pure genius. Beautifully done, well executed, and simply extraordinary.
This is worth it's weight in gold. Correction, gold is far less valuable. So Beautiful!
That speech was just so moving! As he was speaking, I could feeling myself believing whatever it was he was trying to convey there! The world would be a much better place if we could all believe it too, that purpose thing that we’re supposed to believe in! Just look at the numbers, I mean, that proves it completely! The best parts were the graphs that showed just how much of a difference unifying everyone under the common goal of, well, you know, will be! Amazing, brilliant, and to the point!!!
speaking, however, as a person who has an superficial non-interest in this topic I was a bit let down by the fact the presenter chose to use the 36 000 number That is a source of a long-term controversy The general consensus of specialists in the field tends to say its more like 37 000 or very likely a thousand less Nonetheless, I agree with you, however, his use of the graphs, especially the pie chart was a brilliant unifications of the differences of, well, you know, will be That is the world I want to live in
@@MrRaulstrnad I couldn’t agree with you more! I’m so awed by his insight and vision of what can be that I’m laughing to tears with joy! 😂
"Let's look at a picture of the planet for no reason."
That's where we live.
It was an Act that was well anchored with talk! Reality is capturing audience for more than 10 mins in this busy times with so many distractions is becoming biggest challenge for thought leadership!
I hope this video gets viral as the TED talks. Amazing how even many "educated people" get caught by "inspiring" presentations and talks. Watch John Oliver's show on Scientific Studies and his "TODD talks".
So the equation might be like this:
A "Scientist" in TODD talks + his/her talk as a self-proclaimed thought leader = TED talks.
I forgot one more ability: Improvisation theatre techniques.
This never gets old. And people never seem to stop aping the paint-by-numbers style in real presentations.
The hilarity of this video has disabled me.
This is SO spot on...
You are looking at a comment that I made.
I am responding to a comment you made
A random comment. earth is flat.
+zproxy a random response: Buckminster Fullerine.
I made you read this
semi smart ass and half funny response to comment.
this is simply one of the best parodies I have ever seen in my life
TED talks used to be reserved for some of the best of the best on the lecture circuits. As they expanded to different venues throughout the globe, they needed more and more speakers...and it seems the vetting process was decentralized. All this was kind of the fault of TED talk’s own success, because they sacrificed quality for quantity.
Brilliant. Absolutely Brilliant. I really enjoyed that. Thanks Pat Kelly.
Commenting on this so people will see my channel and notice I haven't updated in three months.
Absolutely amazing
Look at at the ratio of women to men in the front row who nod and agree throughout the video. They are friends, fans, or actors who have been organized to smile and nod. The people in the front row are plainly visible and lit on purpose while everyone else is in total darkness. It's audience positioning. Statistics. There's a lot more going on in this video than is verbally expressed so that you, the viewer, will agree with him too. Basic propaganda 101.
This video went right over your head. Of course they are actors.
This isn't a real talk its making fun of how easy it is to convince people you actually know what your talking about.
This comment went right over your head, huh?
Oscar and I think you need to work on your sarcastic-comment-in-the-same-vein-as-the-video detection skills.
I would vote for him or buy the thing he is selling.I found it very inspirational and took many points that I could apply to my own life.He definetly knew his subject well,we would do well to apply these simple goals to our own lifeThat truly is a World I want to live in.
I was impressed, very impressed by his purposeful walk and his humble head nod
A perfect video.
a perfect comment
A perfect reply
+Jose Zapata a perfect thread
A perfect non related comment for spam purposes
Lots of 'J' names - I guess that's spam too. Actually I do like to eat fried spam sandwiches on occasion.
This, in a word, is....BRILLIANT.
OMG ... hilarious. Every single TED talk ever delivered. Deliver us, Lord, from the Thought Leader...
Very humbling experience. Thank you TED Talks!
i feel like this video is weirdly cropped
it that you leading thought? you must be a thought leader.
It's not oddly cropped just different perspectives in real time or post production editing. Excellent videography gives this video additional credibility which wasn't mentioned. Watch again and look at all the different camera perspectives and focus changes. The higher your production value the better your message is received. It's theater. Bravo to that man, as silly as it sounds, it's a really great video.
+DJDevon3 your explanation sounds logical and rings true.
Yeah I noticed the same thing.
same
This video has changed my life.
hahaha!! When I did my TEDMED talk, I commented on my blazer and jeans as the "thought leader" uniform. Spot on, brutha.
Wow ZOGDog implying he’s not a shill. Who would of thought?
On the other hand, Brene Brown's talk led to huge changes in my life that were extraordinarily beneficial, and based in solid research.
Brilliant. It's basically the same technique(s) used by motivational speakers.
We are too easily programmed. Be Aware of what you are watching folks. be aware..be VERY aware. ;D
My heart grew watching this.. fantastic!!
My p3n1s grew watching this. Fantastic.
I should have watched this before my public speaking class final project.
I've watched a lot of talks on UA-cam, and that was definitely one of them.
I am going to use this for the next time I present in class. 🤣🤣
@2:09
lol it's true I know it's funny because he laughs and the public laughs, because I laugh too ! Hahaha !
Reminds me of How to sound smart in your TEDx Talk by Will Stephen
Me too. This is totally a rip-off..
Basically stole the idea and made one of his own. Not interesting, not because it has no meaning, but because he stole the "no meaning" and made a replica of of it. A non-original no meaning is really fucked up.
+Pjor Berger brain hurtingly true
***** You can't compare 100+ years ago with today. The first video that I saw(with Will Stephen) came out a year and a half ago and has been seen more than 3M times on UA-cam. This video came out two days ago and is exactly the same. You can't compare similar ideas people had pre- and post internet.
***** Do you get my concept? The result are in a different format, but the essence of the idea is the same. I understand your point tho.
See what I did there? =)
This is amazing
This is the best. I was just in middle of writing a satire instruction manual just like it.
Every Malcolm Gladwell book ever
Dammit, what a thought and insight from this thoughtful, insightful thought leader.
funny & deservedly savage
Adding this to my list of guilty pleasures.
Why is this video unlisted?
For that faux "in the know" feeling.
To encourage people to share the HD version instead.
Because it's mainly for the CBS website
CBC
One of the most brilliant send ups I’ve ever seen.
Did someone forget to scale the video down when this was uploaded? Or scale it way up?
A modern looking speaker in a TED Turkey speech was saying the person who made the most difference in the world is Mohammad, second is Isaac Newton, third was Jesus.
O videoyu hatırlıyorum. Ekonomiyle ilgili mi neydi. Bu arada yine seni hiç burada görmeyi beklemezdim.
That's a pretentious way at looking at how there are more believers of Islam than the other religions
I

You know the worrying thing was I felt I actually learnt something from this talk...
Its like every ted talks ive ever seen

there you go. you just made the connection that ted talk is pretty much a religious sermon in our modern world.

I gained some new insights by looking at this talk.
I gaibed more insights rrading your comment. truly profound.
