For what I have heard about that Renault boss and how he treats people like for example Prost this might also be partly inspired to teach him a lesson. It is all a bit to coincidental that Alonso announces it the day after Piastri was free from Renault. And Piastri was so sure so quickly with his reply that he must have seen this coming you might think. Not saying it was all planed in advance but something must have been brewing there.
Regardless how much money Alpine invested into Piastri. It was a partnership. If the driver doesn't deliver. He would be kicked out. Why not the same for the team?
This is the mentality more people need to have in general. It’s like any other job- if your job isn’t showing any future advancement opportunities, you quit and find a new place to work.
Period. Had Oscar underperformed he'd been dumped at the first possible moment. Alpine, on the other hand, had a guy with a pre-F1 performance not seen since Russell and Leclerc and have had him sitting the 2022 season without anything to do besides test sessions, and wanted him to join Williams, out of all teams, after that; and only went to him for the Alpìne seat after Nando trolled them. Oscar owes them nothing. Loyalty goes both ways, specially when the same guys who are asking him for loyalty have been with the team since 2021 for the most part (in Otmar's case since january). You chose to extend Oocn a year ago, and now to re-sign Alonso? Okey, one is a solid driver and the other's an all-time great. But don't expect the biggest prospect in racing rn to just wait for you when a team like McLaren is offering him a great seat.
By now I think Daniel could try to get that Indy 500 crown to go after the Tiple Crown of Motorsport… he already got Monaco and he would get a lot of good faith from McLaren and he will be a superstar in the USA, going to every TV show that there is, probably dipping his toes on what might be a career alternative as a presenter, commentator or TV producer.
Im a Ric fan and have been since his early RB days. He can be a genine super star in Indy car but Formula 1 is just next level man. Wouldnt mind him going back to Alpine and kicking Ocon's butt like he did in his last year at Renault.
no he will not go to Indy...Indy is not for those who dont have balls......it requires balls and above all talent of adaptability...Daniel is a great guy .....but in F1 he is just a good driver with very bad adaptability and his legacy has taken a big hit
I also think the move benefits Lance Stroll too. If Stroll loses the head to head match up against Alonso, I think people will be less critical towards him because it won't make him look as bad as if he lost against a young driver who still has a whole future ahead of him. On the flip side, if Stroll can beat Alonso, his stock would rise considerably because he beat a two time world champ who is still widely regarded as one of the best on the grid.
really hope so that AMR builds and hire or poach some great guys from Red Bull and Mercedes to help build a great car and I hope they will not hire any strategist from Ferrari....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Don't forget that Flavio Briatore, former Renault team principle and manager of Alonso and Webber is also a behind the scenes link. I wonder if he's been pulling any strings to stir things up?
Incredibly well analysed lad. Was so confused by alonsos move but this breaks it down so well and I get it. Looking forward to what happens in the coming days xxxx
Probly Aston Martin asked Alonso: "Did Alpine had already 10 minutes for you?" "If not, we want to make some time for you". Probly McLaren asked Piastri: "After your 3 tittles, have you have a seat yet?" "If not, you don't need to be sidelined a second year". The arrogance and disrespect from Alpine might be a factor.
At Alpine, I was also confused why they signed Ocon on such a long term deal, I mean he's a good driver sure, but they hamstrung themselves signing Ocon to a multi year deal. They could have put Alonzo and Pisatri in for 2023 if they had contract options open. Then again they got blindsided by Alonzo, just bailing on them lol. Then again though, Ocon has done well this year, i think on average he's outperformed Alonzo......so who the hell knows!
Here's one possible explanation for what happened. The offer open to Alonso appears to have been 1 contact for next year and 1 option for the year after. So Piastri was faced with the possibility of sitting out for another two years or perhaps being handed around the paddock like a foster child for the same period. Now assuming the current contract between Piastri and Alpine expired at, say, midnight on 31 July, London time, Alpine needed to exercise its option to resign Piastri by that time and date. Had they done so, Piastri would be bound by the terms as specified in the option. Given the above scenario, Piastri was obviously looking to get his ass on a seat for next year (and who could blame him) and entered into an agreement with McLaren to race with them next year should Alpine not exercise its rights under the option by the due date. This agreement could have happened months ago. Then when Alpine failed to exercise its option by midnight on 31st, Piastri's contact with McLaren became operative. That's why Oscar was so categorical in his media release - he became bound by the McLaren contract at 12:01 on 1 August. There was no going back. Whoever is responsible for contracts at Alpine was asleep at the wheel!
I can't see Daniel insisting to stay if the team has made it clear they don't want him there. He has unbelievable drive and perseverance but that would be such a negative atmosphere, I think he will take a buyout but I so hope he lands with another team. Yes, he was underperforming there, but he was near the top of the grid until 2020 ad I think he deserves a chance in another car before it's game over.
Remember Laurent Rossi shamefully firing Alain Prost (and Marcin Budkowski)? I am sure that Fernando had felt that his El Plan was crumbling. And then Laurent Rossi hired Szafnauer who was himself dismissed by Stroll. Then there was the "small" business of the long awaited and late to arrive and now frozen and clearly failing to deliver Renault power unit. It appeared that Alpine was on a course of confrolled demolition of itself, and thus Nando had nothing to do there. Add to that the abusive reliability, the psthetic strategy, the bizarre star treatment Ocon was getting and, to top it all, the humiliation of Fernando, and you see why slamming the door behind him was a no brainer for Fernando. He is now reuniting with the Merc power unit. I am hopeful that Aston are capable of providing him an equipmeng and environment worthy of his talent. As for Alpine, well... tough luck. Prost, Alonzo, Piastri, they are in need of picking up their pieces.

@@doicounttoo6861 No. It tells us the longevity of truly talented drivers. Indy car is one of the 3 highest levels in Motorsport. (including WEC and F1) You need to learn that these drivers are talented as well
@@justinburley8659 Not saying these drivers are not talented, they definitely are. Grosjean was not truly talented for F1, yet he drives fairly well in Indy. Many "retired" drivers from F1 go to Indycar and do well against very experienced US drivers. There is a clear pattern.
@@doicounttoo6861 I agree that they do well, but when you question the talent pool, you are implying that drivers from F1 are much better than the drivers already in Indycar. Grosjean hasn’t even won a race yet and he’s not in the Championship fight. The caliber of drivers is really high. Also, Alonso won Le Man in his first attempt at it (although he got disqualified). Are you questioning the talent in WEC too?
People act like just because Aston Martin isn't doing so hot right now (which isn't even the whole story, they're consistently gaining positions during the race, it's qualifying that hurts them), they'll be the same next year. I don't know where this idea is coming from, teams move up and down the order all the time. Obviously I'm not suggesting they'll jump to the top, but is it so hard to imagine they'll develop a better car than Alpine next year? Is it somehow out of the question? I'm pretty sure that most if not all the talent they snagged from other teams last year, like Dan Fallows, are out of gardening leave and have most likely been working on next year's car for a while, AND they'll be getting more wind tunnel and CFD time than pretty much everyone other than Williams, so it's actually quite likely that they'll take a big step forward.
age is not important, is the stopwatch and results what count, and there are a very few people faster or better reading a race than Alonso, that is why he is lasting this long in the sport.
I'd say people should get used to this sort of unprofessional arrogance and incompetence from French and Italian teams. They're too focused on internal politics and forget they're in charge of a racing team. A good reminder of that is what happened with Prost Racing. Prost was screwed by his government and sponsors and had to finance the team out of his pocket. They promised him the world, only to not follow through with those promises when the time was due.
Alpine-Renault have only got themselves to blame for this. To lose 1 is reckless, both is just total incompetence. Alonso thought he was just going to be a stopgap. (Although he's clearly only gone to Aston Martin for the Money) Piastri thought at best he was gonna be on loan at Williams next season stuck at the back of the grid hence jumping ship. Rumour has it that Alpine-Renault's option on Oscar expired on July 31st, it's no coincidence that Fernando's announcement was the day afterwards. Personally I wouldn't choose a Customer Team over a Works Outfit but that's a separate issue. This isn't over though, Danny Ric won't budge without having another seat lined up and will be hoping that Alpine-Renault are prepared to take him back.
One things pop into my mind after watching this video, imagine if aston actually sign alonso in 2021, danny ric staying at renault/alpine & maybe vettel to mclaren. That look quite interesting if that actually happen.
They shoehorned themselves into this situation by offering Ocon a long-term contract, Ocon is so overrated people think he is on the same level as George Russell
I don't think ocon is in the level of russell, but he should stay i f1 and he deserves that seat at alpine. He is doing a good job so far, at the time of his contract signing he was performing well and the team believe in him. And i am an ocon fan
It's been a week and I'm not much happier about Alonso's move. He's my favorite driver, and he has a bunch of dumb moves in his past and I think he's made yet another one. I hope I'm wrong. He's a first class sh*t stirrer for sure.
Alpine has been a bit of a management mess starting with getting rid of Prost. Not giving Alonso the 2 year deal was a daft move, he still has the pace and motivation that he did in his Ferrari days. That being said, Alonso going to Aston doesn't make too much sense for Alonso career wise, Aston are even further away than Alpine from having a good car, I can see it like Ferrari and Mclaren where the car comes good as soon as he retires.
Alpine gave a long contract to Esteban O'clown while offereing 1+1 to a 2x WDC is stupid from Alpine Racing Team to say the least. Hey, what can you expect from a team full of frenchy clowns?
Alpine overplayed their hand for too long. Should have committed to sign Alonso for two years instead or this year by year insult to his skills. Or signed Piastri before he gets frustrated. They shouldve known he wasnt going to just sit on the sidelines one more year.
Fortune favours the Brave.. Alpine wasn't brave enough to give Oscar the F1 seat even though everyone in F1 are saying he is going to be next big thing. You cannot make a talent like that sit on sidelines. Look at Red Bull, they were very brave to give Max a chance very early on when most of the F1 community was saying he was too young for F1, but look at it now, it is paying them dividends. I would say the same goes with Vettel too, they recognised talent and took chances early on. If Alpine plans to become a championship contender team they needed to act like one and should have done everything to held on to the best. The best driving paring for Alpine for me in 2023 was Alonso and Oscar and now they lost both of them.
Webber talked to Mclaren, then 2 piastri, then to Seb . Seb and Alonso decided not till after july 31st. That way they screw alpine , get piastri a seat , and Alonso takes Sebs place as elder statesman at Aston. BOOM! P.S. F1 lawyers can own Dani Ric's contract so feel bad for him but thats what'll happen. Hopefully he finds a home...
At the moment I believe only Latifi and Ricciardo really have to fear for their seats. I wouldn't mind seeing guys like Piastri and Sargeant replace them. Maybe Ricciardo can go back to Alpine to redeem himself, but I honestly prefer to see another rookie getting a chance.
The Ocon disrespect in that title (and in the comment section) is palpable, but certainly reflective of the general sentiment towards him as a driver. Next season will be his chance to prove himself as a reliable #1 on a (hopefully) decently competitive team and prove the doubters wrong!
Nah,his problem as with Dany Ricc is that they are good drivers BUT both arent nr1 drivers, maybe Ocon later on can become one but as of now he isnt a top pick. Alpine wanted him cause he is decent & also french and that helps with the fans.
I really can't see a scenario where Piastri doesn't get a seat. If he doesn't get McLaren, Alpine have shown that they still want him, and even if he doesn't get either, Williams will still take him over Latifi.

Oscar and Alonso would have been the best option honestly. Then when Alonso retires sign Gasly and pair him with Piastri. Alpine screwed up bad. Ocon is good but will never be championship material tbh. Thats what Alpine gets for trying to play it safe.
Ocon is beating Alonso at the moment tho
Alonso has probably been the unluckiest driver next to Charles
@@emanuelsosa8 By running him off track because Alonso was faster.
@paper plane because gasly has quali pace, doesn't crash into his teammate or run them off the road every second race and gets podiums when the car is alright? But you are right. Ocon and Alpine deserve eachother. Hope to see them do well without and experienced nor a good driver next year.
@paper plane oh, you still think ricciardo deserves a seat in f1. No point in arguing with you I guess.
Yeah Alonso may not have a lot of success (outside of beating Lance) with AM but he gets a long term contract which is all he wants. More seasons with Fernando is always a good thing.
Missed you Aldas, hope your voice heals more. Love seeing your videos pop up and I genuinely think you could work for F1 as a commentator because your content is so great. 🤟🏻
Impressive to see Ferrari has found an equal opponent of bad team strategies 😶
For what I have heard about that Renault boss and how he treats people like for example Prost this might also be partly inspired to teach him a lesson. It is all a bit to coincidental that Alonso announces it the day after Piastri was free from Renault. And Piastri was so sure so quickly with his reply that he must have seen this coming you might think. Not saying it was all planed in advance but something must have been brewing there.
It was ALL planned, Webber is still loling...
But don't expect the biggest prospect in racing rn to just wait for you when a team like McLaren is offering him a great seat.
such a wild driver shake up - makes me want to revisit some of the other wild driver shake ups from the past
To be honest Fernando Alonso going to Aston Martin could help build up the team kind of like Michael Schumacher and Mercedes
Agreed
really hope so that AMR builds and hire or poach some great guys from Red Bull and Mercedes to help build a great car and I hope they will not hire any strategist from Ferrari....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He’s building it like a YOUNG Schumacher cause he’s one of the GOATs.
Alpine really fumbled a Piastri-Alonso lineup so hard, it's actually comical
Don't forget that Flavio Briatore, former Renault team principle and manager of Alonso and Webber is also a behind the scenes link. I wonder if he's been pulling any strings to stir things up?
Get well soon! Was waiting for your take on all this all week long
Alonso has a pretty good relationship with Zak Brown even though the car was REALLY bad.
I think he values loyalty and honesty.
yep, he goes bananas when feels cheated and disrespected... *cough 2007 *cough
Big ego...but also a lot of class when you treat him half-properly
Incredibly well analysed lad. Was so confused by alonsos move but this breaks it down so well and I get it. Looking forward to what happens in the coming days xxxx
Probly Aston Martin asked Alonso: "Did Alpine had already 10 minutes for you?" "If not, we want to make some time for you". Probly McLaren asked Piastri: "After your 3 tittles, have you have a seat yet?" "If not, you don't need to be sidelined a second year". The arrogance and disrespect from Alpine might be a factor.
So many channels trying to capitalize on clickbait and silly season drama but I can always count on Aldas for the solid commentary
Flawless analisys, bravo
I've watched pretty much every video on this fiasco.
I think Aldas is the first one to nail what's going on behind the seens.
Nice one....
Glad to see you doing better! Great insightful video as always 👊
First time I see you, Aldas.
You are giving me some 90s vibe with your hair.
aston martin is in the sandpit playing lego with williams and haas. good luck with these world champions
Don't worry bruv, we'll happily wait a couple of days to hear YOU talk about F1. Keep up the good work, regards
Idk why but your voice is very pleasant to listen to (in general)
6:50 Gasly and Ocon hate each other from their karting days. So yeah, "good idea" lol.
Feels like a money move for Alonso 100%... but if I were in his place I would take it, I really don't blame him
It is a good move for Aston Martin. Alonso has huge fire in his belly.
Obviously Piastri's deal is with Mclaren, but I think an interesting driver swap would be Danny Ric to Alpine, Gasly to Mclaren, and Piastri to AT
Helio Castroneves won the Indy500 at the age of 46. So it should be possible for Alonso to drive for a few more years at this high level.
41 year old Will Power is leading the IndyCar championship race with 42 year old Scott Dixon only 4 points behind (in a series that awards 50 points for a win plus a point for pole, a point for leading a lap and 2 points for leading the most laps).
Does that tell us something about the level needed for Indycars compared to F1?
Are you questioning the talent in WEC too?
yess aldas alpine video finally
Some of the best f1 content on UA-cam
I could definitely believe that there was some coordination between Alonso and Piastri in order to cause as much chaos for Alpine as possible.
Seb: Alright, lets do this bois
Nando: Prepare for trouble....
Oscar: ... and make it double
Phil Swift: NOW THATS ALOT OF DAMAGE
Get better soon! Even ill, your voice is incredible.
I heard that Flávio briatore was involved in the whole piastri case. Has good connections to Webber and alonso… Pretty funny to think about it xD
Glad to see you doing OK!!
It's not a cup of tea it's a mug of tea 😂
Alpine with Alonso and Piastri would be BiG... but they preferred offer a contract to Ocon... lol
age is not important, is the stopwatch and results what count, and there are a very few people faster or better reading a race than Alonso, that is why he is lasting this long in the sport.
Ocon sitting down with his long contract eating a baguette laughing at all this drama
The way u explain is superb man
Fantastic video keep it up your doing amazing job
I'd say people should get used to this sort of unprofessional arrogance and incompetence from French and Italian teams. They're too focused on internal politics and forget they're in charge of a racing team. A good reminder of that is what happened with Prost Racing. Prost was screwed by his government and sponsors and had to finance the team out of his pocket. They promised him the world, only to not follow through with those promises when the time was due.
If definitely the best signing Aston Martin could’ve had. Not sure it’s best for Alonso but at least they have faith in him and he’ll rule the roost
The French will not be outdone when it comes to chaotic-illogical-decision-making by the Italians at Ferrari !!!
tbh their driver management is unmatched
Alpine-Renault have only got themselves to blame for this. To lose 1 is reckless, both is just total incompetence.
Alonso thought he was just going to be a stopgap. (Although he's clearly only gone to Aston Martin for the Money)
Piastri thought at best he was gonna be on loan at Williams next season stuck at the back of the grid hence jumping ship.
Alpine learning that if you chase two rabbits you won’t catch either
They shoehorned themselves into this situation by offering Ocon a long-term contract, Ocon is so overrated people think he is on the same level as George Russell
I don't think ocon is in the level of russell, but he should stay i f1 and he deserves that seat at alpine. He is doing a good job so far, at the time of his contract signing he was performing well and the team believe in him. And i am an ocon fan
#ElPlan is over #LaMision is just starting!!!
I’m looking forward to the fist fight between papa stroll and nando
Now…
This video was pretty relaxing…
The problem was giving Ocon a long term contract... too long
Alpine gave a long contract to Esteban O'clown while offereing 1+1 to a 2x WDC is stupid from Alpine Racing Team to say the least.
Hey, what can you expect from a team full of frenchy clowns?
Hello mini Gordon Ramsey 😁
Your hairstyle is like Gordon Ramsey's 🤣
Get well soon man.
They have a contract but bet it’s an expired contract
Aldas better than Tommo and all those Brit crew

Appreciate it
Webber talked to Mclaren, then 2 piastri, then to Seb .
The contract looks good.
Much shorter than before.
hahahahahahahahha 👌🤌
At the moment I believe only Latifi and Ricciardo really have to fear for their seats. I wouldn't mind seeing guys like Piastri and Sargeant replace them. Maybe Ricciardo can go back to Alpine to redeem himself, but I honestly prefer to see another rookie getting a chance.
Alpine core problem was to commit Ocon to long term, all started going wrong there.
The Ocon disrespect in that title (and in the comment section) is palpable, but certainly reflective of the general sentiment towards him as a driver. Next season will be his chance to prove himself as a reliable #1 on a (hopefully) decently competitive team and prove the doubters wrong!
ofcourse he will be number 1 since alonso is gone ....🤣🤣🤣
Nah,his problem as with Dany Ricc is that they are good drivers BUT both arent nr1 drivers, maybe Ocon later on can become one but as of now he isnt a top pick. Alpine wanted him cause he is decent & also french and that helps with the fans.
It's not a downgrade for Fernando alonso as aston martin is an ambitious team, while the alpine is just happy to be in the mid tier.
I really can't see a scenario where Piastri doesn't get a seat. If he doesn't get McLaren, Alpine have shown that they still want him, and even if he doesn't get either, Williams will still take him over Latifi.
Alpine feels like Renault in 1983 when they sacked prost just because he didn't win championship & replacing cheever for no reason.
Been saying this since they first signed Ocon for so long, but I knew this was going to bite Alpine in the ass. Between Alonso and Ocon, I'd choose Alonso easily. Alonso & Piastri line up would've been the dream.
Ocon is mid
Then Alonso is is mid or below mid because in terms of pace not just points he's about a match for Ocon
I see You drink tea without milk. A fellow convert to what was the right way all along!. Good.
Wait El Plan is for Aston Martin??
Fernando: Always has been
Its not el plan anymore. Its #lamision!!
I thought Ricciardo would be the perfect candidate for that position at Aston Martin and it would also be a good move for him.
Do you do voice recordings on commission?
I never realised how much this guy looks like Gordon Ramsey...
Alonso would have at least a couple podiums this year if he was in one of the top 3 cars.
Alpine somehow came out of this worse than Rahal Letterman Lanigan
Embarrassing is an understatement, this all falls on the CEO of Alpine!
I'm watching this at midnight where I'm at but its worth it
Damn they screwed up lol
they don't deserve any better anyway in my opinion
Aston Martin is investing a lot more into tech and buildings than Alpine. Its a great move.
Some people criticize the alpine loyalty, but in my opiinion Alpine can't force loyalty. They don't even commit and guarantee a seat for Piastri.
Loyalty? Does it even exist in modern society? Most ppl dont even have common decency let alone loyalty or honor.
