Your no doubt a good businessman!😉 I live across the street from Clearwater municipal air park, Clearwater, Florida. So your very close. I'm looking eyes wide open for a project for you. Many planes here need love!😃🤔 I would love to meet you. Do you know anyone at this air park? Hercules ave. Clearwater Fla.
Jimmy while you have the plane apart especially within the wings behind the exhaust augmenter tubes you should consider spray ACF50, Corrosion X or Boeshield to stop and prevent future corrosion.
Jimmy, I'm not a pilot but my father was and I started flying with him Back in the early 70's. Helped him build a plane in our garage which he flew VW engine and all. I love your videos and look forward to the new ones every week. I ask that you please trace all the wires down on the 310 and make sure the mice and rats didnt do a job on them. I just had to have the wiring harness on my truck replaced because the bastards chewed the wires and it only sat for a week. Was told that the old wires were made with a soy product which attracts them. Looking forward to that 310 getting in the air. Good Luck.
Jimmy, have you ever flown a 310 ? If not you’re in for a pleasant experience. I always thought it was one of the best small twin engine planes ever built. I’m 75 now and have time in a few of them. I sold my plane some years back. I really miss flying.
Jimmy there is another simple little trick with extracting rusty screws from aluminum in that aluminum expands 1% more than steel when heated. This is a procedure used on merlin blocks when extracting and fitting liners. The expansion happened at less than 100 Deg C so all you have to do is pore a kettle of boiling water over the area and the screw will break free. You can often hear the rust seal pop. Try it it works very well and it does not stress the hole.
I have a question for you and the person below I was wondering if either of you have any secrets or special concoctions that will remove extremely heavy and hard scum buildup. Its a fiberglass boat that spent all of it's life sitting in the water at boat slip. I have tried the toilet bowl cleaner and simple green and super clean and industrial concrete cleaner and a few other things. I don't know if I will have any better luck when it warms up . I tried all these with the temperature in the low 30s to mid 20s. I'm out of ideas well i have one left to try and that's Muriatic acid. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
@CJ's random videos warmer temperatures usually help. What kind of scum/buildup is it, green or yellow? And is the underlying gelcoat in decent condition? Pressure washer usually can remove all the green stuff. Consider a steam pressure washer at a professional boat cleaner. We use oxalic acid for cleaning hard buildup. It's the same stuff you often find in stone cleaner, but those are often quite dilute solutions (at least they are here). Don't buy a liquid oxalic acid solution, but buy pure oxalic acid crystals. This is usually way cheaper, and allows you to make a saturated solution by simply adding the crystals to water: at some point the crystals stop dissolving, at which point you have the strongest oxalic acid solution you can make. Apply the solution to the hull, !use long thick chemical resistant gloves and wear eye protection! and then rinse it off after a while. I wouldn't go to muriatic acid, at that point you might as well sand and repolish your hull. Before starting that, I would reconsider the need for the hull to be cleaned and focus on more fun things in life.
@@JoranGroothengel Thank you for the information. I live in Idaho. The boat has never seen salt water so I was happy about that but we have heavy heavy minerals in most of our wells and our lakes. It spent a lot of time on lake Coeur d'Alene and Medical Lake, Washington. There's a lot of clay and minerals like calcium. There's no algae. It is extremely hard and very rough. To the touch. I don't believe that it has damaged the Gel coat at least not to bad. I think it will come around nice if i can figure out how to remove it. I did use CLR but it was very cold outside. I have kept busy cleaning up the inside of the boat and servicing the engine and drive unit. I just hate to see it look so crappy on the outside like that. If worst comes to worst I will have the gel coat redone. I got the boat for a great price and have plenty of wiggle room and if I have to have the gel coat done I will still be above water by 3 to 5 grand. I will definitely be trying the stuff you recommended. Thank you.
Jimmy, ACF-50...lots of it! Additionally, chromate the inside of the flaps and the flap wells. Left hand drill bits work like magic when removing bad screws, especially counter sunk screws.
Pro tip for you Jimmy.... go to your nearest auto-parts store and get some "Valve Grinding Compound". But a dab of that on your screw bit. The micro titanium flakes will help your bit bite into the screw head to get those suckers out. To get even more leverage use a screw bit at the end of a speeder handle along with the valve grinding compound. I have sheared off MANY screw heads this way (they would have broke anyway).
Jimmy you save old aircraft and this is great. I love your show. I am a veteran of the USAF and I always have liked aircraft. The painstaking process of this type work is important that every nut , bolt, screw, wire, airframe , engine and electronic systems has to be checked out says a lot about you. You're crazy lol.
Doesn't matter if you have the prettiest, most decked out shop in the world, not a single tool in there is more important or gets more consistent use than a good old Rigid shopvac.
Hello from the Philippines Jimmy! I can't wait for more 310 content because I would really love to see this baby back up on the air again and also because of that cliffhanger at the end of the video. I'm very fond of multi engine aircraft since I flew my first multi engine which was a Piper Seminole. Keep up the good work Jimmy!
Boy does this bring back some memories. In 1956 my father and a friend bought a surplus Stinson AT-19 trainer (V77). It was a rodent housing project like this. His friends son and I were the designated mouse crap cleaners. It got restored and sold to someone with more money than brains. Major fuel pig. The Lycoming R680 was not bashful about fuel consumption. Good luck with this project.Emptying the shop vac was like opening Pandora's box of new virus' . Yuck!
Is that the same vacuum cleaner that you used to suck up the water earlier? It's seriously understated how it's outperforming anything I have seen in our hangars by at least a factor of 10.
Those pliers...can't tellu how many times I wish I had something like that to remove corroded screws under similar circumstances...I can see why you cannot use an impact driver there for fear of dentling/bending the aluminum...great vis my friend...Ty
Vampliers or just Engineer brand screw extraction pliers (there are several models, actually) are a very clever adaptation of dental serrated extraction forceps. And nobody still makes pliers similar to premolar forceps (it's 90 deg. angled).
Flaps could have the rivets drilled out and panel is a good template for cutting a sheet aluminum replacement panel. Old school repair, could save a few bucks.
I see, while reading the comments, that I was not alone, that I actually held my breath an nose while you emptied the shop vacuum! Not airplanes, but have cleaned up mouse nastiness, an it is nasty☠! Kudos to the fellow sweeping! Hope you made it worthwhile for him!
Hi Jimmy, greetings from Argentina. I LOVE your channell and the funny/crazy guy behind it. What you are doing is heartwarming for me (and maybe all GA enthusiasts). You are a resurerector. Are you going to keep the current paint job or change it? If you do what colors would you change it to? Also what about the 310's interior? Would love to see what it will look like once you get all the crap out and fresh interior in. Are you considering any cockpit upgrades considering the last time it flew?

Howard Hughes had a 24 volt battery system in the Buick he had specially modified with an air filtration system to minimise germs (Did I mention he was an eccentric) and he would get the inkling to go to Tijuana to eat some tacos at 10 at night, he could pull up to his Lockheed Electra and open his boot and connect the cables to start it up . I don't think he would fly in Jimmy's plane
Only vaguely on-topic but ...the ancient Egyptians deified cats above all other animals (so many cat-mummies found back in the 19th C, literally tons of them, they used them as fertiliser) because they were completely dependent on massive grain silos, and you can imagine the problem they would have had with fricking rodents - basically, no domestic cats, no ancient Egyptian civilisation.

I don't think he would fly in Jimmy's plane
You look real good today!
I can’t wait to learn what the total tab$$$ will be for this 310 bad boy!
Those pliers are called vampliers if anyone is interested
Vampliers are amazing. I have the 5 piece set. No cheap but great to have when you need them.
I've been waiting for this epidsode!
Nice! Got a few more about cleaning it that will blow you away!
I really hope you get it all cleaned and ready to fly 🤙
Then I suggest a trip to Denmark 🤣
You should look into Paterson for some additional support.
Far out... Do those pliers have a name... I could use a pair...
Vampliers
@@therealjimmysworld Thanks...
#Savethe310
Hell yeah Jimmy, keep at it brother!
I cant wait for the next episode 😂
Btw I would really love to see an episode(s) with detailing (cleaning) the 310.
you just seen it
@@arnoldromppai5395 that was just mouse poop removal. I want to see detailing shampoos and brushes and serious restauration :)
@@racingflying4803 WELL IT HAS TO START WITH THE MOUSE POOP and trash, so id say you are seeing it from the start, you cant take shampoo and brushes in and make mud poop ,, clean up has to start with the mass. its all part of detailing, your seeing the first 20 min. start.. maybe you clean the way your saying, but that dont work like that
Well, as you can see, the new video was exactly what I meant before 😏
You might want to spray the interior with an industrial disinfectant once all vacuumed out.
Oh yeah, Buddy, take a deep breath while cleaning--there's plenty for everybody!
Ahhh, 1982. I wish that plane could speak!
Could you use the pliers to get the screw started out and then use your drill? Maybe save time?
