DMR is great! Most newbies think it only works with internet, but it works the same as FM UHF/VHF repeaters do locally when the internet fails. You just get the added bonus of text msg’ing, and two users on the same freq.
Here where I live, those stacked UHF Arrays, out perform the pants off of the VHF/UHF antennas most hams use. Make sure you have a great filter on both RX/TX.
We ran tests here, and DMR beat analog, not even a close contest, when it came to range off the same antenna/radio. It’s really a great mode if you know how to use it.
I could leave my HT in the truck and check anytime for texts people sent. I can’t say enough about it. Welcome to 2023.

DMR is great also as starter radio for a new ham, you can get long distance for not many dollars.

I highly recommend that you cut the BROWN wire going to the fan inside the XPR8300 so the fan runs at full to keep it nice and cool. 8300s are known to cook to death even if you have an external PA.

maybe one of these days i should join a club again... i was in one back in college and we had a tower and repeater set.. i dont even know if that club still exists.... interestingly I am probably going to be taking down a stacked folded dipole array for ~~440 mhz (okay 460) for our commercial repeater at work as we shift to an internet relay between the two sites.

Why do you need both the Motorola and BridgeCom repeaters?

I would have used RG-8 for the duplexer jumpers.

I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone noted this. It kind of freaks me out seeing someone working up high and people down below without hard hats. Just one little fumble of the hands and someone gets killed.

How come Thomas the mast climber is not dressed up in an Hawaiian shirt and dress shoes like the other dude, when he climbed that tower. Also, why is he using his safety gear correctly. The Hawaiian shirt guy never used to! Hang on, where are the hard hats, especially for his ‘professional’ assistant!
