Making a KILLER SHRIMP aquarium
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- In this video I'll be making a killer shrimp aquarium, an aquarium for the invasive gammarid Dikerogammarus villosus. This video shows the creation of the aquarium and explains why the killer shrimp is so invasive.
Enjoy!

happy you're more confident to the point of just actively showing you and your body and face more often, it's genuinely so nice to see you grow from when i first found this channel about 4ish years ago, keep doing you king.
He is a handsome person, and I am relieved to see that he does not in fact live in a jar.
what is with you people you just need to seee whos making the videos ... not just take the content for what it is
@@vasili1207 i don't care whether or not he shows himself or not, i'm just pointing out that doing so is a sign of having a growing confidence in himself, and his little heart on my comment seems to be he agrees lmao
so its about you then... funny you assume hes not confident just because he don't want to jump in front of a lense... some people are not attention whores. but enjoy your little heart lol . @@ocarina0001
@@vasili1207 how on god's green earth do you somehow miss the irony of saying i'm assuming something (which is less of an assumption, if you've been around the channel for a while you would see he rarely if ever showed himself), when you are also assuming something about him? i was just complimenting his very apparent growth as a creator and his confidence, because he is a person behind the content, he's not a machine made for your liking. does it irritate you so much that someone else gets complimented you need to complain?
So happy you're back to making your documentaries! Missed you bro!
The best documentary
Missed u 2
@@LifeinJars What about to put them in your cichlid tank?
The only time I ever got to visit the Netherlands was in 2010 and I got to visit Zandvoort and put my feet in the cold North Sea and find empty razor clam shells on the beach. I still have those shells, I brought them back to Canada with me! I love your videos....it reminds me of my visit in your beautiful country!
now we all don't have to wonder why Canada is so full of migrants
maybe someone just brought back chinese as souvenirs 😂
If you love his country so much, why don't you marry it?
Me (not a shrimp) watching this video with the shrimp-like posture: mmm, yes, breed, my brothers and sisters
Relatable
Kinda Sus you have to say not a shrimp 🦐👀
Only LiJ can make video called KILLER SHRIMP about invasive species of ferocious predators, and make it the most comfiest experience possible.
New life in jars episode? Todays a good day
I remember going on a fishing trip as a kid and we accidentally left our live bait bucket half way full with some lake water. Many many months later I grabbed for the same bait bucket and only about half an inch of water was left. Inside the water was a handful of massive adults of a same or similar species. They must have had an entire generation breed, grow, and eat each other for those last few to survive. Freaked me out as a kid to see that lol.
Alot of jar-gon in this video 😂
The door is still A JAR. You should see yourself out.
I liked it when the alien man said "it's shrimpin time" and proceeded to shrimp all over the place.
I just wanted to let u know that because of your videos, i’ve been fish keeping since 2019. You inspired me to make ecospheres- then that led to getting a fish tank- and now i’m breeding fish and shrimp. You are genuinely inspirational.
i’m either going to college for microbiology, marine biology, something to do with aquaculture etc. my 14 yo brain sucked your videos up like a SPONGE.
The Killer Shrimp look just like little puppies digging in the sand! So cute!
I'm glad you said you thought they were kinda cute, because I was starting to feel like I was a little insane for feeling the same. Weirdly, the demon shrimp gave me stronger bug vibes. I mean I get they're all kinda just sea bugs, but like... the killer shrimp scuttling around was legitimately sorta adorable.
(In case it wasn't apparent, bugs are creepy and I don't like them. Demon shrimp retaining some of its terrestrial cousins' creepiness in a way I can't really put my finger on. Maybe it was just that you picked out cuter clips of the killer shrimp idk.)
Apparently theres talk in the scientific community to rearrange the taxonomy of insects and make them all crustaceans.
A day with a new life in jars video just makes the day that much better!
Drinking tea, watching Life in Jars, perfect monday evening.
6:24 was so funny it caught me so off guard how you just kept going without even mentioning it
I come from the older days when noone, noone knew what you looked like and most of us thought you were headed toward age eighty, or at least somewhere about Forty-twoish. Surprisingly, at that time in our lives, you were weeks seventeen. And who knew you would turn into this handsome young man you are today. I mean who knew. I look forward to your videos, and missed them. Well. Keepum coming! You are evolving, and so much for the better. Thank-you.
This was super interesting, as it has made me rethink how I want to set-up a shrimp tank
I thought I was a scud, but they can grow so much bigger! Pretty cool video
Scuds are just the common name for gammarus shrimp. The ones you are thinking of could well be another species, there are apparently 200 different species.
Fascinating as always. Keep these videos coming, please!
i don't know how you find the time and space to do these kinds of things but ever since i discovered your channel about 3 years ago i've always wanted to do something similar but i honesty just don't have the resources to do so but hopefully one day i can do this in the meantime keep up what you're doing dude! you're an inspiration to not just me but everyone here
Serpadesign has multiple videos detailing how to make a closed ecosystem for next to nothing (recycled jars, moss and dirt from outside, free isopods etc) if you have some time and patience :)
An amphipod ecosphere is on my list for quite some time now. I love that they are so easy to keep and very active aquatic animals
Love new Life in Jars videos. And love the music.
Killer shrimp: "outcompetes everything around it!" **video of amphipods doing random backflips**
man those shrimp sure have a good view
Can confirm, most aquascaping is "How much of my cool stuff can I fit in here"
Thx for the upload; shrimp are an underrated aquarium pet!
You are such a lovely person. From one biologist to another, I wish you only the greatest endeavors.
Honestly, yours is my favorite channel. Thank you for sharing what you do.
oh wow! a new video awesome!
Glad it's not just me walking around the shores looking for creatures
6:29 very smooth 😂😂
This was extremely educational, thanks!
“Why are these called killer shrimp? They’re just bumbling around and doing flips”
-shows their knife hands
“Ohhh ok”
That was a lot of info. I dig it
Shrimps are funny. ❤
Finally! Freshwater mussel content! Can’t wait for more mussel content in the future!

Let’s go another life in jars videos I love them so informational I’ve always find it hard to express my love for biology like he does around other people so happy he matches my energy for the same things !!!🎉
Always a joy to see you upload! ☺ Nothing like looking at shrimp to some smooth jazz.
Love the jazz background music but please clean the glass regularly for a better view
The one that got scared and did a lil hope 🤣😭 13:19 omg 😭💖💖💖
The king of jars is back
I just found your videos and I love them! They're so interesting and you're very funny. I hope to see more of what you do in the future!

It’s really good to see you putting out more material!

Awesome video, glad you're back!!
very excited to see the video about all the other critters in the aquarium :)
Didn’t realize this was you until the video started, very happy to see your videos again
Great vid on this project. I just found your channel. You broke down the process so anyone could understand it. Thanks. Take Care and Stay Safe.
Appreciate your efforts, I always learn something.
So excited for the next video. Not another channel quite like yours
Glad you're back
Hello jar man!!! we love your videos you do a great work my friend!!! 👍
Excellent as always, your work is such a joy to watch
I just found out that someone is using mantis shrimp to make a new camera. If you have heard of the mantis shrimp before, this might seem like a good idea as the mantis shrimp can see a wider range of colors than we can. And just to give perspective, we can see 3 base colors, red, blue and yellow, the mantis shrimp can see 12 base colors. Again, this all seems good and well, and even might get you too think something like ''it would be so amazing to see other colors'', until you stop for a second and realise that even if we make a camera that can see these 12 base colors, we can still only see 3
Great to see you back my dude
Heck yeah
Yeaha
Lovely introduction to your new roommates. Can't wait to meet the rest
Strange to think how devastating a invasive species from relatively nearby could have such a huge advantage.
"Ah, this must be one of those cute misnomers based on old rumours, I wonder why they're called killer shrimp?"
"They are giant death machines that multiply incredibly fast and are covered in spikes"
"oh"
Dude super show! so relaxing and interesting.
Amazing sideburns too I'm jealous 👊👌
The shrimp randomly enduring cataclysmic events throught this video 😂
Great video, really liked all the research that you presented!
Someone: What do you enjoy in this video?
Me: Yes!
really cool stuff!
Oh my god, it's Mantid Bourne! Love convergent evolution and your work. Yes, these appear to be the roaches of the sea.
So this is like the Predator movie where you add organisms and Killer Shrimp hunts them :D
Great video! You always get really good footage! Thanks for teaching us about the killer shrimp 👍
Best channel on YT. 🎉
Awesome, i trid to make a Dikerogammarus habitat as well but failed so far. They are invasive in the Viennese Danube too.
Glad to see you are already doing your bachelors thesis, congrats. Took me way longer :D
Very interesting, thank you! 😊
Very awesome! Missed your swaggy background music in this one!
Great tank, thanks for sharing. I suspect you need to add some aeration to mimic the lake, which has lapping water and wind to aerate its waters in addition to oxidising plant life.
Yay he’s back
We have something like those here in Southwester Pennsylvania here in the US, we usually find them under rocks in creeks around were I live, the largest I've seen was maybe a little smaller than an M&M
Welcome back!
Glad I waited to watch this. Great video
Mr Jars, nice to see you again!
killer "killer shrimp aquarium" video!
I started a paludarium because of your channel. Population: 1 bladder snail
you should probably try to fit all small very invasive species in aquarium to see who would survive
i have a shrimp aquarium and my neocaridina live in peace with these
Haha when you sped up the placing of stones in the tank I was afraid you were going to splash the water out 😆
Plssss upload more we love your videos and the long form nature content is great
Wow, that is an awesome video.
these killer shrimp can also make there way into fresh water shrimp aquariums on plants or moss and are known as scuds. they quickly out compete the other shrimp and will fail a tank quickly
Love it! Thanks!
This was fascinating…and I have missed you.🖤🇨🇦
Yayyyyyyy! Shrimp!
That's so nice! I actually recently decided to start a small aquarium with Gammarus shrimps as well a few months ago. Couldn't find the killer shrimp though in my region, so I went with Gammarus roeseli.
hell yeah batman
