The reason why the snare drum plays when the roll rewinds is because the vacuum to the tracker bar gets cut off to stop any notes from speaking, but there are springs on the valve fingers that hold them in the "off" position to prevent the notes from speaking during rewind. The spring for the snare valve finger is obviously broken or missing.
Usually they had switches on top of the cabinet. This one is also built in to the wall and it's plugged in to a standard wall outlet. There are 2 switches on top: Motor and lights.
I didn't go to the park on May 5th, and when I did go, the organ wasn't playing. I haven't been back there yet, but I found out from a friend that the swell shutters are broken and won't open, so I'll wait until they get the shutters fixed to take more videos.
The organ was out of commission when I visited 2 weeks ago but I received word that it's back in commission and playing again so I might possibly go back next weekend to get some more footage.
The organ already has air filters. Those pieces of fine mesh behind the tracker bars trap dust in the air and stop it from causing internal damage. Kennywood's snare starts to play weakly when the roll isn't changed for a while and the tracker bar gets dirty. It has never played like what you described.
The 146 is actually very similar to the 153. The 153 just has double roll frames instead of single, double the amount of violin, piccolo, and flute pipes, automatic stops to turn those extra pipes on and off, swell shutters, and a different front.
What they do to "clean" the tracker bar only causes worse blockage. You can't spray anything inside the tracker bar. That just pushed all the dust inside the sensitive valves and pneumatics inside. The bar needs to be vacuumed out now, removed along with the lint filter behind it and sprayed from the back to get all the dust out in the future.
This organ had the same problem back in july and they fixed it by realigning the tracker bar On the left side of the roll frame, there's a thumbscrew that is used to align the holes of the tracker bar with the holes of the roll. Stop the organ in the middle of a song and turn that screw in order to line up the roll with the tracker bar
The 150 scale goes as follows (from left to right on the tracker bar): Swell shade open/close Bells on/off loud flute and violin on/off Register cancel Coin trip Snare drum Tuba- G, C, D Bass- C, C, D Accompaniment- G, A, B, C, D, E, F, F#, G Melody- G, A, B, C, C#, D, E, F, F#, G, A, B, C, C#, D, E, F, F#, G Trumpet- C, D, E, F, F#, G, A, B, C, C#, D, E, F, F#, G Bass Drum Rewind CELLO
That is vey great that the 153 is doing well also at city park they aslo hvae something similar to kennywoods version on fright night it is called Haunted Kidde rides and they will have in the halloween roll and about whe will those new videos be posted
Yes, just take the brass tracker bar and fine mesh lint flter off, blow them off with canned air, and vacuum out the valve holes where the tracker bar sits.
Well good thing the 146A in Pueblo does not have shutters i hope for the best for both of theese historicial items also the person i would recomend is a guy name Arthour whos in his 80's and has a shop full of band organs
Hello i have some bad news this time when i went they turned it on and the roll was moving and notes came across the tracker bar but no music played only thing that played was the cymbal hitting lightly constantly
That'sgood that they realign the tracker bar, but they really need to take the tracker bar off of the organ to clean it because otherwise the dirt will get inside and do worse damage. If it works like a charm after cleaning, then there is no problem. If the valve fingers stick, then that would be caused by the tracker bar being dirty or misaligned. If the keys don't stick after the tracker bar is cleaned, then the organ is perfectly fine
It does not only play when the roll is rewinding when it hooked up it will play constany even if there is no roll inside the organ and when there is a roll in it plays in beweteen songs and non stop through the songs unless u turn the whole organ off or disconnecuit the drum so it wont play
Sounds to me like you have a stuck valve. That would have to do with cleaning the tracker bar the wrong way. When you blew that canned air into the tracker bar, it caused all the dust to clog that valve and force it open. You need to take the tracker bar and filter off and clean them from the inside out, and vacuum out the valve holes behind the tracker bar

do you think if they got air filters do think it slow down the process of dust clogging up the valve beacuse i told i want that snare drum fixed beacuse they just given up i talked to my ftiend who is a band organ expert he said there is a sutuck valve that caused by dirt and dused also has kennywood snare drum ever played constantly beacuse when they didnt put a roll in and turned it on all it does is palys even when she puts in a roll it only stops while its rewiding
Ok i went to the park saturday and is was working fine the next day i came they had the same roll in and they tried it 3 times the first and second it sikipped notes and only the front ones were playing then they sprayed out the valves through the tracker bar with 3m air dust remover and they turned on again and the roll was moving but it did not play at all
And also when she played this one roll it played fine and then when it got ready to rewind it stoped like it was going to but then kept going and tore the paper off and when it tore off everything played for 1 second and the drum hit she taped the roll backed up and played the last song agin and then it rewinded then after it played through again it tore off again and did the same thing to fix it then changed it when it was done rewinding
Do happen to know any metal caster and some the parts i am looking for is a snare drum beater and snare drum valve and a valve operner/shutter and any other hook ups that make the snare drum operate
do u know any where i can get the non metal parts like the bellows the vacumes and the the valves and snare drum and base drum beater and what are the names of all the metal parts
But will it be like wurlitzer that means when i turn it on it wont have a slight diffrence and also what if i have nothing to go by i mean for what the part looks like
what is that thing called where it has a string and it has a circular thing around it and every time a note plays the circular thing goes up i think it has to do with the valves but i don't know the exact name of it
i have some questions do know the bells well what key do they play in and what are the individial names of all 16 individal bells like what note they are like a c sharp u know
I also have a question the organ at city park rides was having trouble like when the ride operator put in a roll she went to go turn it on and the roll was in corectly and the only thing that came on was the snare drum and it just kept constaly playing and it still rewinds in the middle of songs and this one anoying flute pipe that trys to come on when it not suppose to during a song and does not stop do u know any one cheap who fixes band organs if u do let me know
Do you think if i called KennyWood park and ask to speak to the manger do u think he coul give me it or if u can call him for me beacuse this time they got it to play but it was skipping notes and the snare drum kept constantly playing AGIN!!! and instead of rewindin it pulled the roll offf
Hello it me again i have a very important question my question is what is the correct name for number 4 on roll 13400 is it Dr. Zivagao, Somewhere my love or Lauras Theme
I have some good news they fixed most of the band organ they had a professional come one of the best in Colorado fix it only 2 things that are stiill broke are is the snare drum keeps constantly playing and every time they slide the base drum pin back in place it falls off in an hour oh and once it ripped of the paper roll instead if rewinding and skipped notes that was after it was fixed but one time it was the roll and the other the tracker bar was not alined
If you go World War II Remembered Part 2 - Wurlitzer 146A Band Organ on u tube that almost looks like the one at city park or i can send u a picture of the one at city park
Well most of the time when the organ starts skipping she just turns it off and rewinds it by hand and then sprays it good lets it dry and make sure the tracker bar is alined up beacuse it gets out of line and turns it back on and it works like a charm and she thinks the piano like keyboard in the back that playswhen the pipes play is warn out and thats and they stick and thats proably y the snare drum alawys plays and needs to be replaced
Awesome video and music!! Thanks for posting, I love this holiday song now more than ever, especially like this!!

I like the shutters. I like how they open and close...

I delieve so. That roll was arranged by a local native named Dave Stumpf, they have all of his rolls.
The 153 has over 200 pipes inside and it is indeed double-rolled
I'm going to be at the park either this weekend or next weekend. Stay tuned!
The organ already has air filters. Those pieces of fine mesh behind the tracker bars trap dust in the air and stop it from causing internal damage. Kennywood's snare starts to play weakly when the roll isn't changed for a while and the tracker bar gets dirty. It has never played like what you described.
Wurlitzer made 162 of their style #153 organ, of which 50 or so are known to exist
The 146 is actually very similar to the 153. The 153 just has double roll frames instead of single, double the amount of violin, piccolo, and flute pipes, automatic stops to turn those extra pipes on and off, swell shutters, and a different front.

The bar needs to be vacuumed out now, removed along with the lint filter behind it and sprayed from the back to get all the dust out in the future.
The song "Somewhere, My Love" was used in the movie Dr. Zhivago
@pecman Thanks for your feedback! More videos will be coming possibly as soon as May 5th!
Gavin McDonough of BAB Organ Co. He takes care of this beautiful 153 so I'm pretty sure he can fix your 146!
The motor turns a crankshaft which pumps the air bellows up and down and the air bellows make everything else work
Kennywood's organ is also having a persistent problem this season. The air hose for the shutters is stretched and keeps coming off
The motor is located on top of the cabinet and attaches to the crankshaft by means of a system of belts and pulleys located on the rear of the organ
I have a few new videos from the last day of the regular season. I was playing pretty well, they have the halloween roll on now for fright night
They do. I've heard it many times.
This organ had the same problem back in july and they fixed it by realigning the tracker bar

Yes, just take the brass tracker bar and fine mesh lint flter off, blow them off with canned air, and vacuum out the valve holes where the tracker bar sits.
The bells play along with the melody section
Sounds like the bottom spool failed to unlock when the rewind pneumatic was triggered
