So much of Button Poetry has poets with the same style of rhythm, rhyming, the "spoken word" voice, but Phil Kaye has a way of speaking that avoids that cliche completely. He makes you stop and listen. He does not hurry through his poems, he lets each word sink in where appropriate, and it makes you feel the storytelling of the moment. I love spoken word poetry, but so much of it feels like finger-pointing and preaching, especially when they all merge together with the exact same speaking style duplicated across dozens of poets. Phil is different - more vulnerable, more creative, and more powerful.
Phil is one of those artists that I avoid the comments until I’ve fully been immersed in his words. And by God, what captivating words woven into unforgettable stories.
I don't want to cuss.. but good Fu...dge muffins. It struck me with "in an oven, he does not know the irony of it yet" and rent my guts with "birthday songs of children".
“Hate is a strong word. But it is the only strength that I have left.”
Immediately crying. Amazing line. Whew.
Freakin phenomenal
"Fear of joy is the darkest of captivities" DAMN

Thank you for articulating this.
"Montague (you) would be so happy if we could Capulet (let) this go" Genius. Pure unfiltered genius.
My favourite line honestly
"forgetting is the only gift I wish to give you." such a well put out line.
And what a piece of art it is!
Loads of love, Phil ❤️

"How am I to forgive the men that severed the trunk of my family tree and used its timber to warm the face of their own children"... that cut me..

Amazing that this is titled "Teeth" and he said teeth looked like tombstones in the piece. 🥺
The last two lines were a Romeo & Juliet reference, which tied in how he mentioned the Montague and Capulet thingy earlier in the poem
