    VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
This woman is incredible! Lisa was paralyzed at fourteen, then became a three-time Paralympian with six gold medals before she got injured and had to quit the competition. She then returned to nature for some healing and found that it helped her longtime pain. Now, this nomad surfs daily during the season and mountain bikes some incredible terrain.
Her 2021 Ford Transit was designed and built to suit her physical limitations so she can thrive outdoors and independently. A lift gets her into a raised fixed bed, and a separate chair lift gets her and her wheelchair safely in and out of the van. This rockstar of an athlete inspires all of us with passion for what drives her happiness and inner peace!

I am a new wheelchair user. Seeing what you have done in your van helps me to see what changes I can make to our house to make it more accessible. My husband and I planned to travel when he retired next year but with me being in a wheelchair, we figured that dream was over. This was very encouraging.

My Dad had polio when he was 18mo old. He lived his whole life in a wheelchair. Every car or van he owned was accessible for him to drive. We went camping a lot. 1st in a tent camper then an accessible trailer and finally an accessible motor home. We saw a lot of the US that way. My Dad concentrated on what he could do, not what he couldn't. One of his favorite things to do was boat fishing on Lake Erie. Great guy...great Dad.
I really enjoyed your content. Keep rollin!

No one told my 4 yr old brother he had a sister on the way so when I was born he threatened to kill me. He was kept away from me for the first 6mo of my life. When I was 3 he nearly succeeded in killing me by pushing me while on my trike down a flight of cement stairs. I landed at the bottom on my back w/the trike on top of me and a broken back. My parents did not take me to the hospital and I did not know why my back always hurt terribly while growing up. 7 degenerative discs and spinal stenosis bloomed much later in my life and chronic pain has been my constant unwelcome companion. 3 yrs ago I lost my ability to walk but I refuse to give up and let life stop me from living a fulfilled one. This lady inspires me to do more than I realized I had options to do. I do believe the van life is calling me!

Lisa, you are an incredible woman and this is an incredible build. I love all of the adaptations you have made in your van. So many things I wouldn't have thought of. You are an inspiration to anyone thinking of nomad life. I keep thinking of how you can get your surfboard off your bed. Perhaps if you had a false floor throughout the van (but not the garage) that had a foot of storage underneath it, you would have more room for storage. The storage could be accessible from a number of panels or doors on the floor. You could access a large space where you have the floor extension over the step by the side door. Thank you for the tour. Enjoy!

@J L, she is an inspiration to anyone really! I mean what a lovely person and story. She didn't just give up, in fact she remains more active than many people who have no, otherwise physical challenges. I also love that lift at the sliding door! A friend of mine has the ramp in his van for his disabled son. In his case the ramp is fitting for their configuration but it definitely takes up much more space inside and out. I also like the fact that she said she has to really think about things she's doing and that by necessity she has to do so independently. This was a great video and transformation of the van for someone with physical challenges.
I've seen so many different vehicles, campers, even the HUGE and terribly expensive RV's, some of which have a platform that slides out so you can drive your small car onto it and the whole thing slides back under the RV so you literally carry your car with you YET I have not seen a single one from the factory made with a "wheelchair lift" etc. Something you mortgage/sell your house and still take out a loan to purchase and it just has "stairs and a hand rail"... This was a great video and I like how she even had collapsible stool for someone needing a little help getting in/out of her van!

I'm surprised more people don't use recessed cabinet handles. I just know I'd bump into them and hurt myself, because I do so constantly in my tiny apartment kitchen. In the van, there's even less space, so whenever I see people's handles sticking out, it just seems so impractical to me. Recessed handles look like a really wise decision for a small space.

Out of all the videos I've watched on van conversions, this was the most enjoyable. I really enjoyed her personality and tenacity as well as her willingness to do the things that will bring her happiness. The conversion is genius and I applause her design skills. I hope she continues to enjoy her life on the road.

This is SO INSPIRING!! As a 54 year old woman with a very rare spinal cord condition, I thought for years this wouldn't ever be possible for me. Thankfully, I've been able to walk again, using a walker, and sometimes just a cane!! And though my condition can put me back in my wheelchair at any time, I'm thankful to see that this life IS POSSIBLE, because of your video!! Thanks so much for sharing your story!! I love to be outdoors, but due to another condition/ disease, I'm extremely photosensitive, so I've got to be really careful. I'm even sensitive to uncovered UV lights commonly found in stores Luke Walmart, Lowe's, Target, Home Depot, and Eve m9st grocery stores. I don't do well in the heat, either. But your van is awesome!! I could t I totally do it!! Did you design it personally? And if so, what was your approximate total cost? Thanks so much! Have fun and be safe out there! You're a true warrior at heart!! 💙🙏🏻💪🏼

I currently am camping in a Toyota Sienna with a Braun conversion.
    I have a used permobile m300
I would like something like this.
I am in my 70’s. I was bedridden for the most part from 2001 until recently
I learned getting out of the house and in nature helped my health.
I have mold illness, Lyme and company, POTS/oi
I would need to do a fund raiser to do something like this.
I have partial funds but not all.

KeepInItReal: Watching you during your van tour has giving me hope in just maneuvering around my new tiny apt. You are the 1st wheelchair user I've seen on a van life journey, and I enjoy watching a few of them. I had a massive stroke back in Aug 2013, and after 2.5 years of rehab I was on my own. No aids or nurses to help me. The stroke effected my right side. I can't drive a car, but recently I got doctor approval to use my mobility scooter. So its been a daily struggle for me, and now since my old place decided to raise rents in May & I'm on SSI disability I have limited income now I'm in a tiny apt with about half the space I used to have. Seeing you maneuver with less space then me shows me that I will figure out to get around this new problem. Thank You for that gift of hope & showing us your home.

I wish you all the best in your tiny home - hopefully with the new scooter you’ll be able to get outside with greater ease! That’s really what helps me in tough times.

I'm an 8-year stroke survivor who has a weekend left side. I've been trying to figure out a way where I could potentially get away from the cold Midwest Winters but the RV community has not been very accommodating of those of us with limited mobility. I've never seen the kind of chairlift that is used in this van and I'm very impressed by it. I think that this band is very well designed and very useful. I think her so much for giving us such a great tour of her van and how she is able to live an active and fulfilling life on the road. Thank you so much!

I loved this so much. I’ve been debating getting an RV or some kind of camper van. I wasn’t sure that this lifestyle could be done in a smaller van vs an RV. I use a power chair to get around. I walk as well but it’s very painful and as I get older my mobility will decrease. I’m in my 40’s so I’m definitely not young. But this video gave me so much hope!

Thank you for sharing your story and your adaptions done to your- van. Your kindness and sharing and zest for life and everything is so inspiring to me. I'm disabled too since 1988 when I was 17.I suffered from a traumatic head/brain injury, and a paralyzed right side from whiplash which tore the main nerve on the right side of my neck. It's a miracle I'm alive my heart stopped in the ambulance and the emt team was doing there best to get my heart beating again. I was in a coma for 3 weeks.
I have a truck with a canopy and a homemade bed in the back from repurchased pallets and the top is new plywood..I will be house less this year or next, so I have been busy getting it ready to live in. I have mobility issues and I have come a long ways.
I have the highest respect for you and all your accomplishments and adaptions. You have a top notch van with great access for your needs. . Thank you and take care. 🙏
