I too just lost my Swiss Army Executive knife under my house while crawling through the mud to find a leaking pipe. I bought that knife in 1979 or 80 after destroying my old 14 year old executive knife trying to fix a neighbors car battery. Now I find that this knife is no longer manufactured and there is no reasonable similar model made. It’s small enough that I don’t feel like I have my 45 in my front pocket. Seems I will be heading back into that dark damp abbess under my house called a crawl space. My house is 40 feet wide and 80 feet long and I am 88 years old and I don’t crawl as well as I used to but I want my 40 plus years old Victorinox Executive knife back. Y’all stay safe.
Thanks for highlighting the SAK Executive. I’ve carried this knife for many years and continued after I retired, 20 years ago. The last few years I also carried the Walker, which gives me additional cutting, combo tool and saw capability. I can get most tasks done when carrying both knives. Thanks again for producing this video.
Oh man! After a few days with the Ambassador I totally get it, what a lovely sized and shaped knife. Opening parcels is great and even though we all love the classic I get the 74mm it feels like a good knife.
It sucks too because the prices on used Execs has gone up and they are seeking for as much or more than they cost new. Definitely one of my favorite SAKs. I have one from around 74 that I carry and another from the 60s that I keep home.
Yeah I’ve noticed the prices on eBay are really getting steep. I lucked out and found another vintage one for less than 10 today. Thanks for watching, Petey! Cheers!!!
The Executive is one of the best keychain SAKs out there. However, I found a yellow Victorinox TOMO on a beach and that's what lives with my keys! At first, I thought it was a plastic piece of junk, and I lifted up to throw it in the trash can!
This was my first Swiss Army Knife in the early 80's. I used the Orange Peeler to shave away monkey bar callouses and warts. Then somebody stole it when I took it to school. Thanks for the memory! And don't worry about the details of the knives. Baby brain is real!
Thank you, thank you, also my favourite model. And you are the first UA-cam channel (I've seen) that points out the flat head screwdriver driver on the peeler and the Phillip on the nail file. Always hate the videos where they say "if it had screwdrivers it would be great". So thank you for actually knowing what the all the tools do and sharing that. 🙏
The 74 mm is the largest knife you can reasonably carry on a keychain. The advantages of it over the 58 mm knife are considerable, but the drawback is, the main blade on the Executive is still pretty small compared to an 84 mm Vic. You can use it for cutting through some tape, or maybe opening a package, but you can't even use it to cut up an apple. The main blade on my Compact or Cadet is much more useful. I carried one of those for awhile as my keychain knife before going back to a 58 mm. I keep an 84 mm Cadet Alox in my car, and I have a whole bunch of 91 mm models on my desk, or in the kitchen drawer.
I agree that the 91 mm and 84 mm better for fruits and vegetables but the 74mm can handle some bigger jobs and has a better purchase than the 58mm. Thanks for watching, cheers!!!
Don't fully agree, and here's why: the “big” knive of the Executive has the big advantage that it is not that “high” as the Cadet's, which is why it works very well in cutting away the core in a quarter apple. It can make the sharp turns much better than the Cadet's blade. And the Executive's blade is much larger&sturdier and therefor more useful than that of the Classic/Manager. Same goes for the scissors. I carry the magnificent Manager on my keyring and always a slightly larger knive in the fifth pocket. Sometimes a Sportsman, sometimes an Executive. Love them both, but the Executive is the best partner to the Manager for me. Happy to have obtained one before its discontinuation, together with 2 sets of spare scales. I'm covered for the rest of my life😊
I found a like new Executive about 30 years ago, when I was mowing, it has been on my keychain ever since then. I haven't used it alot, but it has still come in handy many times. I didn't even know what it was called until about a month ago, when I "rediscovered" SAK's. I gave it a full cleaning a week or so ago, and I cleaned up the scales. The only thing missing on the knife, is that the SA shield is gone, nothing new scales wouldn't cure. I don't believe I have even ever sharpened it, LOL...Great little knife, now securely in a drawer, replaced by an Alox Pioneer X....Nice Review, Thank you...
The executive is an absolute favorite of mine. I carried one alot when I was younger and a few years ago got another and carry it nearly everyday. It's such a handy little sak. Great video 👍
There was talk a year ago that the 74mm is being discontinued, but it was still around months ago at least... The 74mm executive has been my edc literally for few years now and got one extra nib... Just in case 🤷🏻♂️ imo it's the perfect sak... Good enough to get through the day just with it and even better as a complimentary tool for main edc knife...
Never had a 74mm till recently.. bought an ambassador from the Heidi store.. two days after it arrived I found a unopened clam packed Executive at a thrift store for $10 😋 love it! The 74mm's are a very handy size .. bet if they had made some with unique scales they would have sold a bunch more.. wish they would do that with my faves the 84mm's?!?!? Of course wish they would fix that 84 scissors machine?
I got my dad and I a set of these for Father's day, his is red, mine is black and I love them. Dad isn't someone that really carries a knife, but he loves his.
I've worn out three and had one stolen. Always carry in my pocket and just bought my fifth executive from collector group. love the executive size and blades. I'm 70 so it'll probably be my last.
I think it's a mistake to discontinue the 74mm line. However, Victorinox has all the stats and they know what's selling and what is not. It's too bad this model is not appealing to SAK customers anymore. Who knows I might grab one next time I stumble upon an Executive.
Oh, I just checked and see no Executive? Glad I have one. The site comes up Executive 81? Looks like a Classic. Tell Vic uncle Tony wants a sit down... or else lol
Victorinox, like any manufacturing firm, has to do what is profitable. If the 74mm models aren't selling well, then I understand why they might be discontinued. However, they do have many fans. The legendary pilot Chuck Yeager was apparently among them. Eventually I'll own one...they were available with some cool scales, too. Thanks for a great video!

The scaled the 84mm series way back and now dump the 74mm? DUDE. Some of us like the smaller models. Hopefully they keep the Delamont 85mm knives around.
Congratulations on the baby (and the study!) Mr Mom. I have 2 execs, a user and an 60s model. Carry it most days but alternate a Rambler sometimes. That bigger blade is handy
I use the 74mm Ambassador and love it. Don’t need an orange peeler or a second knife blade (3 blades altogether 😱🤣) which is the only real difference to the Executive so the Ambassador is a little thinner. Bought a couple of spare Ambassadors for the future as I don’t expect it’ll last forever.
The 74mm executive is a great knife, sad to see it discontinued. I think it's like the Subaru outback of SAKs, more than a sedan (classic) but not quite a pick-up (climber). More of a suburban crossover SUV. Hope the kid is doing well, take care Dan.

I happen to run across one of your old videos on Champion models. I probably watched it when it originally came out. It was worth a second look, maybe you should consider reposting a “best of” collection of past videos.
Terrible decision to discontinue this model / size. It's superior to the smaller "Classic SD". I have this in black & wanted the signature red from SAK.. only to find out it's been discontinued for almost 2 years now.
Discontinued?!? I better grab a couple more while I can. I literally use this knife daily for everything from slicing fruit and veg to replacing a doorknob. :(
It’s possible that I am mistaken, especially considering others comments. But, the executive is no longer showing up on the Victorinox website nor can I find it on any other US retailers website. Thank you for watching. Cheers!
Hey Dan, love your videos. I've picked up a few different models based on your reviews, including the Executive. I now own 3 and an Ambassador. I also recently got an 84mm Climber from the late 60s or early 70s. Do you know where I can get a replacement scissors spring for an 84mm from that era?
What swiss army knife do you recommend in combination with a leatherman skeletool? Ideally for EDC and some light camping work, but maybe some heavier tasks sometimes.
If they just have to discontinue a range I'd rather see the 58's go and 74's brought up to date. But then the people who collect all the 58 fancy scales models would have a fit. And I'm sure it's more profitable for Vx to sale coated scales at a premium price. I think a bunch of all business bean counters took over Vx. Ugh.
I actually just got a Swiss Army knife yesterday at a pawnshop as a trade it came with a sharpener and was still in the package it came in it was so sharp and really nice right out of the package the tweezers were nice to and were strong enough to pull a hair out of my arm
Why do you measure your pocket Knives??? I don't understand? I see knife I take it and use it..SAK Knives are what they are.And Yes I use toothpick,it's my personal and I don't put it in nobody's mouth except mine..SAK Knives have 400 models, sooo pick one that suits you...

Cheers!
@@swissarmydan9354 I can’t find any either. :/
Nope, I ordered and got a large Classic!!
Tony from SA Knights
Noooo, I love this knife. The Classic is too small for me😡
I agree, the 74mm feels better than the 58mm in the hand. Thanks for watching! Cheers!!!
I always enjoy your videos.
That’s great to hear! Thanks for watching!! Cheers!!!
I believe I saw this knife sometime ago on Amazon
Are people sure that it's not the Delemónt Executive 81 that's going to be discontinued?
Damn shame they discontinued this. It's about the only SAK I would buy.
Ya I have about 5 Swiss and that’s not one of them. I have the big daddy and ya what sucks is the older knives they can’t fix!
hail to ambassador!
Shame... I wish I had picked up a spare when they were plentiful at good prices
Bought 2 mint Executives for 7 bucks a few weeks ago. Guess I scored 🤷 🤪
Score! Thanks for watching! Cheers!!!
sure would benefit from a bottle opener and/or screwdriver, rather than two knife blades 🤔
What swiss army knife do you recommend in combination with a leatherman skeletool? Ideally for EDC and some light camping work, but maybe some heavier tasks sometimes.
Huntsman/Fieldmaster, or if you want the most extravagant, complete toolset, the Swisschamp.
The Pioneer, Pioneer X, Farmer, Farmer X are good models too.. robust and strong
Very nice to have another video from you. What are you studying in your return to school?
Clinical counseling psychology
The early version you have has got smaller rivets than the later versions , found that out myself why the hell they did that i dont know
Wow, that explains why the scales wouldn’t stay on. Thanks for the info! Cheers!!!
My Keychain knife is the midnite champ, I carry pocket sized Spartan.
Some other guy said that Vx denied that claim. I sure hope he's right.
Ugh.
74 mm's were always the white collar knives and given white collar names and a shame the money clip is the only one left
Cool
I don't have a knife this size better ge one before they get expensive
You had a kid? Congrats
Compact is better...hands down my EDC brethren.
They will stop the 74 mm production?..so bad. And Victorinox isn't very innovative.
🛠️👍😊
I actually just got a Swiss Army knife yesterday at a pawnshop as a trade it came with a sharpener and was still in the package it came in it was so sharp and really nice right out of the package the tweezers were nice to and were strong enough to pull a hair out of my arm
✨🧸✨ 🙂👍
Not sure why you care about a small knife for "around the house". A Swiss Champ would be fine. You dont need to carry it in your pocket.
When it comes to Swiss Army Knives and good whiskey, I just can’t get enough of them.
Thanks for watching! Cheers!!!
E
That is the ambassodor, 75mm. The executive is the 65mm
