This version of Michelle is pathetic for two reasons. A - This actress can't hold a candle to Susan Tully in terms of her acting ability. And B - the original character of Michelle would never have turned into this snivelling mess, she was tough and feisty and took on anybody who pulled her down. Susan Tully played this character perfectly for ten years - they should have left it at that and not tarnished the memory. No wonder she didn't want to come back - eastenders is like a pantomime these days.

Re -casting old favorites is a relativity new concept in British Soaps , its something the Yanks have been doing on their soaps for decades. Can you imagine how awful it would have been if today's producers and writers had been around in the 70's 0r 80s I can only imagine how they would have messed with iconic soap roles like Elise Tanner .
"You're not grown up. You just got older." I really don't understand why skewered Chell's character like this - just for a few cheap drama storylines. It makes no sense.
They didn't skewer anything. Michelle was always gonna end up like this. If you truly watched Michelle's first stint and paid deep attention to her character, then you wouldn't be surprised as to how she's turned out. Lou, Grant, Sharon, Lofty, Vicky, Den, Mark, Martin, and even Pauline have all pointed out one (if not more) of Michelle's many faults that would cause her to end up like this - whether it's her selfishness, her dislike of stable relationships, delusions of grandeur, attraction to dangerous relationships, or her capacity to use people. She's been like this since she slept with Den. Her lack of fire is due to her finally being humbled and having no one around to cater to her feelings.
Michelle was actually always judgey and acted better than everyone yet got pregnant to her friend's dad and husband. She was always thinking she was better, selfish too and had affairs with students and when she had a good man, lofty or clyde, said they were boring. She changed clyde from boxer to family man then told him he was boring and she didn't love him anymore. They wrote the new Michelle exactly like the first. Only this one was a bit more pleasant because the first was truly awful and sullen. Don't know how Sharon was friends with her
No wonder Susan Tully did not want to come back and good on her for holding out , as they must have really offered some serious money to get her. The show descended into a cliche and pantomime and if their relying on scripts like this ? if East Enders wasn't funded by the licence fee it would have been put out of our misery years ago. Bringing Michelle back was a mistake luckily Tully was well out of it .
What a weird storyline bringing Michelle back. It was a bit odd, and Michelle says herself when she leaves that Sharon and Ian have built lives for themselves in Walford and there’s nothing there for her now. Short and not very sweet, unfortunately Michelle’s second stint won’t be remembered fondly.
