This one took a bit longer than usual sorry, ended up being a much bigger topic to cover than I expected!
Hope you enjoy the stuff I've found though, I really loved the Faded Castle story since it was so creepy with the figure even terrifying a god-king. The Crowley Night of Pan stuff was something I speculated on at the end of the Shade of the Void video too so it was nice to get a bit more confirmation that was the route the writers are going with how people transform into Abyss Heralds/Lectors.

I think Surtr is tied to the story that Cater told to Lanoire. I think the flower that the witch took is Rhine and the little girl should be Rhinedottir. The thing is that Hoyo rarely just puts random stories in the game without purpose. Before I was not sure but as soon as the story progressed to talk about Surtalogi I became confident that those two are related.
Ohh that's an interesting take on it, fits with him being a giant too doesn't it. Yeah I love all these books/stories containing clues that make more sense the further into the story we get.

Can you give an example of the "random story being extremely important to the main story"? I'm not trying to be skeptical, I'm just want more proof that hoyo knows what it's doing with small stories like this
@olotl Now I am aware that people do these quests with little to no regard for the main story but this is wrong you should regard Genshin as a whole not just archon quests. I find very often more information in side quests than I do in the main story. And it's not easy to puzzle together but neither was souls borne games and since I suspect that they are heavily inspired by how those games were made, and also the plot I think there is a high likely hood that was the intention originally but now Genshin is so huge that they need to make the story more comprehensive. Genshins core story is about the Moon and the Sun, and so is Elden Ring and Dark Souls.

I hope for Surtloji's design; to be a mix of Childe's Foul Legacy, and the Abyssal Creature that’s inside the All-Devouring One, and a bit of Baptist; With Dark wings. Idk how, but you get what I meant. I really liked this video. With that level of creativity, you are extremely underrated, actually.

Little supporting tidbit about the relationship of the second and third descender and the sinner:
The Solar Chariot is said to be a star that descended during Morax' youth into the Chasm, so about 6000 years ago, roughly during the time of the Second Throne.
It remained in the Chasm until the Archon war, when it leaped to the heavens in an attempt to stop it, despite the "great chasm's persuasions to stay". With the chasm of course also possibly being the home of the Sinner's crystal at the time.
Which could mean a bunch of things:
- Solar chariot could be the third descender
- Second and third descender could indeed have arrived together, possibly as siblings
- Third descender went to Celestia to try and end the Archon war
- Neuv mentions that Archon war ended with First and Third creating the Gnoses
- Meaning Third probably sacrificed themselves
- Sinner seemingly tried to convince the Third not to do it. Possibly due to being their sibling
Wait that fits so well! I hadn't even considered the Solar Chariot when I was talking about the Chasm, that line about it's persuasions to stay suddenly makes a lot more sense now. Amazing insight, I'm actually blown away haha

Only note I'd make is that whilst Loki is basically the Logi that translate to 'fire', Loki's name does come from mischief, which is actually the only link he has to that domain haha

Ah yeah Loki is a nightmare to research isn't he, so many different portrayals. Him being called Loge in Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung might be part of the reason why he gets connected to fire as I think it even pre-dated the guy who first made a big theory on him being a god of fire. Probably has some stuff pre-dating that too to do with etymology interpretation stuff but would be pretty funny if it was a big contributor.
Really interesting stories about him too, didn't want to mention the more gruesome stuff like what he was chained to a rock with but damn, Norse mythology gets pretty metal doesn't it?
@@TheLaughingManLore To be fair Hoyo have based more stuff on Wagner's play than the tales themselves, so Loki in that is probably more accurate to genshin haha
Loki's tales are... probably some of the weirdest in mythology. Him being chained to a rock by his dead son isn't even the weirdest story about his children, him becoming a horse, to then mate with another horse and be the one to get pregnant and birth a child with it is probably the strangest xD
Although now that you mention the chaining to a rock, it sounds a little similar to a rock we've seen chained before. It happened just before Ragnarokkr, too. I wonder if there's any way to connect him to the Great Sinner?

The one where he ate the heart was a weird one too, made me think of the Heart of Naberius but that's a pretty tenuous link just because they're both hearts haha.

I'm not too sure if the character in the thumbnail is meant to be surtalogi, but the design reminds me of the annihilation gang from HSR. Not to mention, a lot of Surtalogi's philosophies seem to coincide with IX or Nanook. Which of course could be a stretch, just some little details I noticed. Ah yeah it's a character from HI3 (Kalpas) that has a few similarities to Surtalogi and fit the fire giant look I was imagining closer than any other hoyo characters, guessing he won't look this way unless he goes all-out or something.
100% agree on the nihilism kinda view though with some of the texts it seems are quotes of Surtalogi's, he's gonna be an interesting character to learn more about over the years. Maybe he'll make a surprise visit in Natlan.

the quote in 13:38 stood out to me a lot regarding the fates of the twins. the chinese phrase used when referencing our twin is 血亲, meaning something like “blood relative”. the word 血literally means blood. so while i do think they are related, note that genshin doesn’t use the literal phrase for twins which is 双胞胎, which could imply that they are not “identical” as twins would be, but branch out with different fates/constellations/destiny.
for genshin, constellation in chinese uses the phrase 命之座 meaning “seat of life/fate”.
the fact that 命之座 was used instead of 星座, which is the more common phrase for constellations is noteworthy because it implies that hoyoverse is connecting fate to constellations. constellations are made out of stars, the twins are stars, meaning that they embody their own destiny, much like the archons/neuvillette. they literally ARE their own fate. rmbr this for later.
there are twin stars IRL, but the two stars involved aren’t “identical” as twins are, and each follow different paths. in genshin’s case, i’d think if the Traveler as the white dwarf and the Abyss Twin as the black hole.
and this is where the quote from 13:38 would come in.
“you will become an incandescent inferno, a new star burning brightly and illuminating the universe for but a brief period, or you will become the ruler of darkness that stamps out all such trifling sparks.”
so that depicts the two destinies of the twins. the traveler that will burn bright and save the world but stop burning briefly after and and the abyss twin that will rule darkness (abyss) and stop the traveler from burning bright (saving teyvat).
in ashikai’s video on descenders and gnoses, it is mentioned that the abyss twin isn’t a descender as the quality necessary to qualified as a descender is to have “a will that rivals a world”.
as i said before, twins=stars=their fate. focusing on the abyss twin, they develop into a black hole and absorb (?idk the correct terminology) light, stamping out trifling sparks like the traveler. in relevance to a black holes properties, the abyss twin could also be absorbing the abyss’s will and using it as their own to compensate for the lack of a will. (also, abyss = black hole).

regarding abyss twin not being a descender and not having a will strong enough to rival a world:
ashikai’s video mentioned stars granting wishes and representing people’s desire/ambitions/will. stars with their light sealed/taken away will leave a “shade”, a “shadow”, similar to a masterless vision with an unfulfilled ambition.
“in teyvat, the stars in the sky will always have a place for you” implies that u can have ur own constellation when u achieve affinity with the stars/constellations/leylines. ie: you will be a part of the fate system and under celestia’s control if you have an ambition strong enough to ignite a vision, just like how shaded/shadowy stars in the sky are ignited like a masterless vision would if the holder has a strong enough will to that specific ambition (kazuha reigniting the masterless vision to deflect the musou no hitotachi).
the abyss twin could be trying to reignite their will or reinforce their will to the point of being strong enough to rival the world and gain the status of a descender by using the combined will of the abyss/khaenriah (much like how traveler defeated ei with the combined ambitions of the people of inazuma, even those without a vision).
my guess as to why the abyss twin is trying to reignite their will (besides obviously the whole descender status and overthrowing celestia/reweaving the looms of fate ordeal) is because: it’s not that their will wasn’t strong enough, they just chose to seal it and hide it.
as the abyss twin awakened before the traveler, they could’ve very well learned about (or maybe witnessed firsthand? i’m not clear abt the timeline) the fate of the second throne, the fate of the third descender, the fate of the dragon sovereigns, the origin of the seven thrones/“that throne in the sky”(quote dainsleif).
all that lead to the abyss twin wanting to disguise themselves and deceive the heavenly principles like furina/focalors in order to deceive fate itself and change the destiny of teyvat.
by sealing their starlight (disgusting their ambition), they lose their descender status and get registered into the Irminsul. but, they hide their fate from Irminsul so that it cannot be read. that way, they can burn away the old world and start a new order, just in ways not as unfavourable to celestia. even so, i believe the abyss twin’s reason to stay in teyvat lies in their forged connection with the beings of teyvat, their shared desire w the fatui to burn away the old world, and to start a new world order where the throne in the sky will have a new occupant. they’ve perhaps witnessed the truth of this world in a samsara, and are determined to stop the negative effects of corrosion, corruption, forbidden knowledge etc to take place in teyvat once again. i believe that sooner or later the traveler will come to realise this as well, after (or even before!) reuniting with our twin. so maybe by stamping out trifling sparks, the abyss twin has succeeded in making the traveler understand their actions, and they will work together with a common goal. and maybe, dainsleif wants us to prove our worth (to rescue abyss twin) by disagreeing with abyss twins plans and giving in to our companion’s words (as dainsleif would’ve also been subjected to this when travelling with the abyss twin), and instead, come up with a better plan to overthrow the system of destiny set by celestia (fake stars and sky), and reweave the threads of all fate.

The Abyss twin wanting to regain/reignite their will might be tied to the gnoses but that makes me wonder how the Sustainer defeated the two if at least one of them had a will to rival the world.
Which also makes me think about her being a potential shade, as you mentioned shades being what's left after a star is sealed or has it's light taken away, it'd be interesting if they were sort of born of the PO dying. Very interesting stuff to consider!

The Shade of Death is someone I was thinking about while making this, since they're possibly related to the feather artifacts and pyro being the atk stat, maybe they show up in Natlan. I think they're the one we know least about too.
Oh yeah the different branches off this lore is endless haha, the dark world does fit with the Realm of Eternal Night just from the name, the Night Mother and Nottie are harder to really pinpoint though, I think I'm gonna have to re-read Hex and Hound to see if there's anything else that might make more sense with the new information we have. 4.2 was a very death-heavy patch for the lore wasn't it haha

You missed a key detail. In Norse Myth, Surtalogi is name of Surtr's Sword and that sword "Surtalogi" was originally named the Twilight Sword as its the sword that would bring Ragnarokkr aka the "Twilight of the Gods". If Dainsleif represents the Twilight Sword aka Surtalogi in Genshin then Khaenri'ah represents Surtr and just like how Surtr was destined to destroy Asgard using Surtalogi, Khaenri'ah was destined to destroy Celestia using Dainsleif. This is why Lumine says that he failed to protect the people of Khaenri'ah because he defiedhis Fate to bring Ragnarokkr to Celestia
(Also I would like to mention that both Dainsleif and Skirk use this so called Powers From Beyond which are basically Black Flames and these Black Flames have said to be the only powers that can turn Morax's Spears and Pillars Black.

Ive always thought that the entity within the crystal (or who talks through it from somewhere else) was the 'second who came' (who had an extreme beef with the primordial one). Others have said this equates them to nibelung, and we also know nibelung went outside teyvat to get the forbidden knowledge for his 'war of vengeance'. So who did he get it from? And how did he know it was there to be used. Still so many unknowns.
Thanks! I've got a feeling the visionary is either Pierro or Dainsleif, not really too sure but I'd be happy with either of them. For Pierro it's him warning against the Veil of Sin and seeming to be a mastermind and for Dain it's him knowing about stuff that it seems like he shouldn't know.
The Sinner fits with the SWC pretty well doesn't it. Could be Surtalogi that Nibelung got forbidden knowledge from if he's some ancient being from another realm but maybe there's something else out there as a sort of representative of the darkness that we have no knowledge of at all. I still think the PO was running away from something which just for the narrative should be something that can communicate/fight with us but it's hard to say what.
Yeah I really appreciate the lore can have us dig so deep and still have a million questions haha, so much fun discovering little clues along the way!

@@TheLaughingManLore I mean, it is probably viable to have something like this running on today’s graphics hardware, with all the RTX and DLSS features on modern GPUs, but it’d obviously be a PC-only thing. Which I’d be fine with, but makes it less likely. And even then it would take a hell of a long time to upgrade all the assets and the game engine, so… yeah, probably not happening any time soon.
As for the plot of the anime, it has got to be more than just a summary of the archon quests’ story, but I’m not sure how all the interesting background lore could be injected into the anime in a way that does not feel out of place.
6:13 I haven’t had the pleasure of reading this story myself, but now I really want to. I’ve been noticing odd connections between the gods kings of old Teyvat and the Traveler, possibly being linked through the Descenders. With what information I’ve been able to gather, this passage reminds me of how the Primordial One and the Second Who Came were usurpers to the old Teyvat ruled by dragons and the Dragon King, Nieblung, another ancient king….
It jumped up to near the top of books in game for me, the imagery it conjures in my head with Remus terrified of some unknown entity appearing and what that implies is amazing.
Yeah I can see what you mean, it seems all the god-kings so far are associated with the colour gold in some way and so are the twins - maybe they're all from the same source, especially since the traveler is supposed to ascend to rule the world as if they're the Primordial One's successors.
I feel like surtalogi is actually Dainsleif and plus the fact that the last dialogue of Dain in Travail is " defeat me " makes it more sus
It was said the first and second thrones worked together using the remnants of the third descender to create the gnoshissess. So that theory about the third sacrificing themselves to fix what the second destroyed is very unlikely.
Ah I'm glad you mentioned that, I didn't cover it as the video is already information overload but that might be a problem with the localisation from CN. Apparently from the CN description of Neuvillette's Vision lines, they're described as a "latecomer" so it might not have been the second throne that worked with the Primordial One/Celestia.
It'd make more sense if it wasn't too since they just had a huge war against each other and the Seelie were banished from heaven for just interacting with the armies of the second throne.

He does! The others are Purusha and Pangu, funnily enough, Purusha is the name of the planet (I think?) in the new HI3 chapters.
In Revelation 9=11 it writes that the Abyss has a king.
In Luke 8=31 the demons don't want to go to the Abyss.
How big really is the Abyss?
Interesting, I remember reading somewhere (I think the Crowley stuff maybe) that the souls in the Abyss want physical forms more than anything and try to escape the Abyss by possessing people. Maybe that was inspired by the Bible.
As for how big the Abyss is, could be a realm like Teyvat, a world or even the entirety of space around Teyvat's planet if the darkness has consumed most stars in the universe.
What if Enjou is Surtalogi, maybe he was being too modest about himself. I'd love that idea.

I wondered about that too as I was adding footage, it'd be pretty interesting if he was just playing with us and letting us defeat him so he could keep an eye on us. I think he even knows we have a bunch of cabbages on us too which is a bit weird but probably just meant as a joke.

pretty much right after 4.2 came out, I theorized on reddit that Surtalogi is actually Pierro. My main reason is that I envisioned the Tsaritsa as an allegorical stand-in for Surtr, as she is leading the charge in the final battle (Ragnarok) against the gods (who would be the Aesir in this case). I took this to mean that Pierro, being the Tsaritsa's right-hand-man, was her "Surtalogi" in a more metaphorical sense, making him the "flame" that the Tsaritsa would use to burn away the current world.
Another reason I have is a more semantical one: If Pierro is a 'royal' mage of Khaenri'ah, and Dainsleif is the captain of the 'royal' guard, we could perhaps deduct a common naming scheme for these royal positions as such:
Dainsleif "Twilight Sword": Royal Guard Captain
Surtalogi "The Foul": Royal Mage
Rhinedottir "Gold": Royal Alchemist
Vedrfolnir "The Visionary": Royal Astrologist
This is based off of a lot of feeling and guesswork, but I feel like it fits. Also, I assumed Vedrfolnir would be an astrologist simply because of astrology's power to predict the future in Teyvat.

Definitely could be, all that stuff is really vague atm haha. I do think the Visionary title fits pretty well with either Dain or Pierro but him being the Tsaritsa's sword fits really nicely too.

@@herb2110 I only think of Dain or Pierro as that as Dain knows about a bunch of stuff he shouldn't which would fit the title and Pierro seems like a sort of visionary in the leader type sense, that's basically it though haha, really hope we get some more stuff on them before Natlan.
As an autist with a hyperfixation on religious history there are some inaccuracies in the video I’d like to clarify
1 Jotun aren’t giants, the best translation for jotun we have is "devourer" and only two jotuns are described as physically huge (uthgard-loki and ymir). They aren’t a separate "species" from the gods but more like a separate "tribe"
2 there isn’t a solid list of nine realms. For example alfheim is located inside asgard, niflheim and helheim are more often described as one realm (niflhel) than as separate realms, nidavellir is a meadhall and jotunheim isnt written like that but like this : jotunheimar, which is plural, as in "the realmS of the devourers"
3 logi and loki are distinct beings. Loki loses against logi in an eating competition in a story

hey, another great video for everyone to enjoy, I watched it twice and probably need to watch it a third time.
The recent Archon Quest and the Thelxie event made me want to check out old lore to connect with the power of hindsight and i think i hit something really promising on a subject i' ve been cooking on. I am really happy you mentioned the faded Castle book too, it really helped me on with my little research.
Fortunately i have alot of time on my hands to dive back into the rabbit hole. I' d love to share it with you once i feel more comfortable on that matter.

If Surtalogi really needs the twin for part of his plans I can see him agreeing to certain things like that, especially since they're a prince/princess of the Abyss. I just hope that plan doesn't turn out bad for either of the twins

I kinda dislike so much use of hi3 videos on a genshin theory.. it feels like a disrespect to genshin as it is its own game...
Ah I get what you mean but just from a footage side it's hard to find scenes relating to what I'm talking about from just Genshin alone since the characters and scenes I cover aren't in the game yet. I felt like rather than use completely different games, it's better to at least stick to just hoyo stuff since they cover similar ideas/concepts.

lore content creators talking about books/mythologies in a way as if we are familiar with it . they just dump everything on you and make u even more confused. how about u make these parts with razor language to give context to everyone. i don't wanna waste watching a video telling me about vague methodologies that i don't care about just to tell me at the end that Surti is a fire man or whatever. keep it simple and less poetic.
Man, just look things up if you don’t know them, and care enough to complain about it. There is enough explanation given of the referenced concepts, mythological stories etc., one that is sufficient to get the gist of it at least - certainly so if one has at least some rudimentary knowledge to build on, or otherwise enough to look it up. The purpose of the video is not to give you a full rundown on norse mythology, gnosticism and whatever else the lore takes inspiration from, you can get that knowledge from many other places. But these must be used as reference when drawing inferences about the lore because a lot of it is based on these concepts. If you neither have the background knowledge, nor do you want to learn, fine, feel free to leave. But the video would be much lesser if it did not contain all these elements.
