Amazing that one of the couriers being interviewed has been doing the job since the 1980s !
Jesus I was getting £2-3 per job in 1989. Hard to imagine how you can afford to live in London on those wages now. Hope there's been some progress since this film's been made - and much respect to the man who's been at it since the '80's!
Hardworking people,respect to them
instablaster.
Most overlooked reason why ANY kind of messenger shud be paid
FAIRLY - accidents.
Just think - like a " James Watson"
said -" so easy job, go from point
a - b and back, why ask for more
pay?" Well, what if that is ur LAST
time out ? U get into an accident,
died, and paid $3-5 for that?
That is just not right.
Fellow couriers, best of luck unionizing! It's time this industry stopped fucking us so hard.
Some of us in the industry of cycle logistics are working hard on this. Paying the living wage and employing riders (sick pay, holiday pay + insured / providing the bikes and equipment)
These guys deserve double the pay!! It is a very tough job.
All the best to your organizing efforts. No gods, no masters.
Really important stuff ...bwahhh. Wonder of the 50 Grand cash delivery was legal...
replaced by Emails, Docu sign, electronic fund transfer and eventually delivery drone.
Respect those people...they work!!!...
Deserve a living wage
Get a different job. Riding a bicycle is not a high skill set occupation.
@@bruceclark5627 You're dead wrong if you think you can glance at someone's work & determine what skills they have. No way you'd say that to any messenger standing right in front of you.
@@bruceclark5627 firstly you need road and street knowledge equivalent to 'the knowledge' including footpaths. Secondly I invest what I earn into dividend paying funds. Thirdly, I'm a skilled IT infrastructure engineer and lost my job because of brexit. So call me unskilled.
Yes to a union for you!
A lot of negativerty towards couriers, but if they all went on strike tomorrow do you think the post office could garente to pick up within an hour an deliver within an hour after that, a lot of the time even quicker than that. How many companies depend on the flexibility these people provide rain or shine. This is a multi million pound industry that exploits courier an workers because who cares.
GREAT clip. Hope the situation has improved money wise.
ORGANIZE!
You all should be payed better all around in the US and Canada as well as the UK you guys are needed and I think a union would be amazing for the bicycle courier as it will have benefits in case you get hurt on the job as well as vacation time.
Ppl share the love, tip the delivery guys. What u give u will get back one way or another. Shame on you cheapskate companies & corporates.
Woooo..u Guys are Super.. (Respect)...
I hope things have changed since this video was posted!
You are heroes! Gope you are doing great nowadays
Workers of the world, unite!
$50,000 damn you should of acted like you got jacked and they could have just collected on insurance....lol
한국에도 정년보장돼느자전거메신저사업이번창했음좋겠네요 이분들대단하심 존경스럽습니다건강챙기고일챙기고1석2조good!
Bike messeger are heros they risk their live for your packege...
Had to laugh at 01:25 but well done for becoming stronger.
Wonder if these people are better off now with deliveroo and all that
Why do you have brakes on a fixed gear?
Create your won co-op business so instead of shareholders and CEO's all the money goes back in wages, holiday pay, sick pay help with costs for bike repairs and everyone get's a damn helmet! Paris and Madrid have 'em and you guys deserve to give the finger to these companies and get the rewards you earn
What gear ratios do they ride lol
I have always thought that this industry is ripe for a co-op run by the members. Forget a union a co-op is the way to go. Uher and Deliveroo together with the idiots who demanded and got minimum wages only exacerbated things.
Depressing.....all the other cycle messenger videos make it look like the dream job !
the reason wages are low is because lots of people are willing to work for less because they like the job.
Why do you need a company to do that why can you just do it yourself or get a group of bikers to do it?
"If you want good employees, you have to pay them fairly." Weeeeeell, apparently not, man. You seem like a solid employee to me, and here you are making less than you did 30 years ago for the same job. Fuuuuuuuck economy. It's a scam.
North Korea has no economy, I heard that is a wonderful place, I'll personally pay for your trip to go there, just let me know.
sounds like these people need to get another job
I do it for fun, i like being on my bike all day, driving around ... and i DESERVE to be paid properly. Guess what: other people think the same and want have fun. It is a free market :) Get another job!!!
fuck off scab
You wouldn't last one damn day doing this shit. Fuck off lol.
lol. Cry me a river. Stem is still king :)
You guys have one job, get to a-b and back. That's it. Why expect more pay for a simple job?
Asking for more than what the job is worth is stupidly, Get a van licence and go work for UPS if you want higher pay.
I've worked as a motorcycle courier and you're talking about pollution in the busiest city in this country. Yeah faster in delivering a letter or something lightweight and small within 5 miles but most parcels are large and heavy items that require heavy transportation to carry them. That is why the worth of a cyclist courier isn't as high as a motorcycle courier or van driver. Just because I drive a van or a motorcycle doesn't make me lazy, they are tools to get my job done end off.
Obvious positives like reducing pollution and congestion aside; I think you'd actually find that many good Pushbike couriers probably earn more than just about every other kind as they have considerably fewer overheads.
They're not asking for more than the job is worth. They want a decent, fair rate of pay that they can actually live on.
This is why most companies like city sprint are experiencing staff shortages. There now outsourcing deliveries to people like us who use cargobikes (reduced costs and beat congestion) and pay the living wage to staff. We're sat on over 100 cv's at the moment waiting to come on board
Pedal & Post Urban Bicycle Delivery Service I realise that's just a shameless plug, and you're perfectly welcome to do that, but CitySprint have a number of cargo bikes on their van circuit - so I'd be quite surprised if they needed to outsource.
