Toys for Bob quite literally split the Crash Bandicoot Community in two and only listens to the people that like the new design. I don’t care what people say it’s annoying N. Just combine the two the color of the original Crash Bandicoot including the mouth and the model of Crash 4 and you have the perfect Crash it’s that simple.
I honestly prefer Vicarious Visions' style, and I wish that they had done Reignited, too. People think their "realistic" style is ugly, but that's exactly the point. Toys for Bob has too much kawaii anime influence in their art style and tone. It feels so rounded, soft, cute, and almost pastel. Even Cortex's square head was rounded out. That'd be fine for Yoshi or Kirby, but those series lean heavily on the cute factor. Crash and Spyro were trying to distance themselves from Nintendo in the 90s, and it shows. Both series are brash and grotesque. So grotesque in fact that Japanese executives deemed those designs unappealing to their moe-centric market and had them changed for the cover art. Crash and Spyro being cute is as appalling to me as making Invader Zim or Ren & Stimpy cute. That didn't stop Funko Pops from trying, though. Even the Zim movie and comics rounded their angular characters out. Kawaii is just the style these days, like how being bold and disgusting was the style in the 90s.
It's quite bold to go with a video title that claims "everyone" hates this design of Crash. I'm not denying there are those who don't enjoy it, but saying "everyone" hates it is certainly a grossly inaccurate statement.

I don't like either design. Crash had been turned into an Illumination Entertainment clone, I wish they could have just modeled Crash to resemble the way he looked in the production paintings for the original trilogy. It would've been so easy. Like we don't need to see the fibers in Crash's fur, and since when did he wear swimming trunks with those draw strings? His eyes are too small and the whole design just makes Crash look like he's in his 40s.
Even though i prefer a lot more the N Sane Trilogy design like most people, i do still believe, at least in terms of character models, they could be a lot better, less uncanny and less rigid animations basically. Crash Nitro Kart artstyle but in higher quality is the way to go imo.
Crash Nitro Kart's secret is they actually had the original character designers supervising the whole thing. Charles Zembillas and Joe Pearson actually worked on a lot of the art for that game.

My issue is that there wasn't a reasonably good purpose for changing the designs, it ultimately came down to: "well the n-sane designs don't look good in unreal engine and so we decided to put our own spin on the character!"
Crash4’s art style and character design feel like it’s more targeted to kids below 13. And I believe the majority of Crash’s current players are kids/teenagers, that’s why you find a lot of people online preferring this design over the OG/Nsane’s design. Many 90s ppl have moved on from gaming or they simply don’t care that much ‘bout the details like some of us (I’m one of those who care). I believe TFB is not going to change their designs in the future. But maybe if another dev team worked on the next title we get a better design that is faithful to Naughty Dog’s 🤷🏻♂️.
I'm certain that if naughty dog had the tech of today they would've made this crash as it falls in line with the Warner Bros cartoon character design perfectly

Hey! Just watched the video, and I'd like to remain as unbiased as possible while writing this and I will not be giving my opinion on the design. "Nostalgia" is never a good argument, it feels desperate. "It's bad because I used to like the old design", people can have opinions yes, and you're perfectly allowed to dislike it. I do want to ask, why do you think there was "no effort put in"? If they changed the design (which is why you hate it) then how would little to no effort get put into it? It doesn't matter if the design for anything is bad, if it got changed then effort must have been put into it, in fact, I think what would be classified as "no effort" is if they just ported the old model, good or bad. As far as Spyro's design goes in comparison to Crash's, the thing with the modern Spyro design is, that design was introduced for the remakes. I guarantee if the Crash 4 design was used for the remakes you wouldn't mind it. Same way as if Spyro had a realistic artstyle for the remakes and then a new game came out which then had a cartoony art style. I think saying "Everyone hates the design" in the title is just clickbait and desperate. One last thing, If (As you've said in other comments) that the only thing that needs changing is the color palette, mouth, (I think there's more but I think either the comments aren't showing up or people deleted their comments) then why is this Crash design so "Atrocious" that you needed to get a mod for it? I can agree I was biased when talking about it. I’m just a bit upset with how they made it too much like a cartoon. I dislike the mouth, the wide shoulders, the pink ears, and the brown nose. They made a semi realistic cartoonish character for Crash. It’s when I look at it compared to what I remember it just makes me upset, thus the angry little rant I gave with this video. Especially with the new game coming out. Yeah I sort of click sites the video slightly, but I wanted my opinion out there and wanted to show that there’s an entire petition for it. Thanks for the criticism. I always like feedback on my videos. I’ll keep everything you said in mind for future crash rant videos if I do any more after this.

Honestly I loved and still love everything about Crash 4 artstyle. I think every single character looks better than ever maaaybe except for N.Brio. Cartoonish style is what original trilogy always wanted to imitate but couldn't because it was PS1. Remake made it look realistic just to show as much "graphic update" as possible. As much of a Classic Crash fan i am, i always found Classic Crash's art style to be fairly dull compared to other games from the time such as Rayman, Ape Escape, Super Mario, etc.
I want to remind you that after the announcement of crash 4, several fans, in addition to making that stupid request that would come to nothing, harassed and insulted the game's artists like Nicholas Kole to death just because they didn't like the new design.. I think the biggest issue that Toys For Bob kinda set themselves up for was making their take THE DIRECT SEQUEL TO THE NAUGHTY DOG GAMES. I can accept the good points of Titans Crash for all its liberties because that is clearly treated as Radical Entertainment's own version of the character, not the ideal evolution of what he's SUPPOSED to be. Same deal with all the Spyro redesigns, would have been fine for their own spin off, but not for REMAKES OF THE ORIGINAL GAMES. i just get a whole unpleasant "We made these guys BETTER" vibe with Toys For Bob that I didn't with the other developers. Otherwise, for me, Crash 4 Crash is....okay I guess. It works as Toys For Bob's version of the character, but I don't really like how they made him more humanoid and stiff. The big shoulders, the chisled mussle, the pushed up nose and the smaller feet. He works better as this floppy cartoon animal to me. I think characterisation doesn't really help either, Crash 4 Crash is pretty much a bumbling loser among loads of no nonsense competent characters. There's definitely loads of 'dumb Crash' takes, but there always felt like this lingering slyness to him that gave him a bit of an edge Crash 4 lacks, like you couldn't turn your back on him. He was never just 'Coco's dumbass sidekick' anyway, the two always felt like chaotic equals.
The N.Sane Triology design was okay but I hate the design of all characters from Crash 4! This isn't Crash! I'm glad that I'm not alone with my Opinion.
Dude, nostalgia isn’t an argument. For example, I grew up with Atari and Namco plug-n-play games and I have a huge amount of nostalgia for them. But I can set my nostalgia aside and agree those games aren’t the peak of gaming gameplay and graphics-wise. This whole “it isn’t what I grew up with so it’s bad” argument is ridiculous.
While you are absolutely entitled to your personal taste and preference, you are also factually wrong if you think that nostalgia is not 100% of your reasoning here. The entirety of your argument is "waaah, it's different, that's bad". You keep calling the design "atrocious" and calling for a "better" one, but you make no attempt to critique the design itself, to say what it is that you think doesn't work. "I don't like that this thing is different from this other thing" is not valid criticism. You can love the old one and hate the new one all you like, but personal taste is not objective fact. I get that ya don’t like the design but one of the reasons they changed it is because after the original trilogy there were many different and toys for Bob wanted to continue that trend, but also combine some of the best aspects of those designs like him, keeping his gloves and shoes, but also adding new features like like fur textures and more animal like teeth. It still looks like Crash but like I said a different interpretation. Also, this is a bit of a nitpick but your point of Spyro having a perfect design kinda falls a little flat, cuz that was for a remake, it was for the sake of nostalgia, I’m sure when they make Spyro 4, whenever that may be they will redesign him. Also it’s been over two years at this point even if the do change Crash’s design to look closer the old design he would look out of place next to everyone else in the game.
It’s not just crash that needs a redesign but the whole crew of characters. They nailed the N. Gin design, but characters like brio, cortex, Crash, coco, tawna, and even N. Tropy, have the less “grotesque”design that made Crash and his friends stand out among characters like Mario and Sonic. Sure they grabbed all these designs from all the different games but making it a direct sequel to warped makes it fall flat imo. I’m unsure if they will change the Spyro design or not but if they don’t and keep it, all the more reason to be upset about Crash and his friends design change.
The closest we have is a mod on PC which changes Crash, Coco, Tawna and the boxes model to the PS1 originals. But to be honest i would rather wait and play an hypotetical PS1 Crash 4 demake than this...

I don’t like the N. Sane model either, a mix between N. Sane and crash 4 could be nice if they kept some key aspects of what makes Crash look like Crash. For example the peachy mouth, the black nose. I liked those better than the version we have right now same thing for the ears. I grew up with 90’s Crash Bandicoot. The second game I played for hundreds of hours. That’s why I can’t look at this modern Crash the same way I am able to look at “old” Crash. I love Crash Bandicoot since it was the first game I ever played. Idk man the new design just bothers me more than N. Sane. And honestly I would prefer Treyarch creating Crash since they have first hand experience with it.

I will never understand the people who judge every new Crash game based on the art style/character designs alone. You guys know that how a video game character looks isn't as important as how they control, right? And now the usual suspects will use Crash Of The Titans as an easy shorthand to dismiss my argument. I'm not very big into Crash's old character design (or the series's general art style & character designs at that point) from CB1 to TWoC. It was only from CNK (and to a extent Twinsanity) that he became good to look at artistically. And yes, i'm saying this as someone who grew with the PS1 games.
The thing is, even with Titans, the changes at least FIT what they were going for, Titans was SUPPOSED to be a big overhaul with loads of creative liberties, the developers' own self contained version of Crash. Most of the redesigns also fit what they wanted to do with the characters as well (Crash looks more like an animal because he ACTS like an animal, Coco is goofier because she has a goofier personality, Aku Aku being redesigned into a wakeboard/shield type sillouette is because he IS those things throughout gameplay). It was a weird direction but at least one that fit their intent. Crash 4 on the other hand not only wants to be this direct sequel and successor to the Naughty Dog games in spite of all its liberties, but most of the redesigns feel....superfluous or even unfitting. Coco is even goofier looking than Titans Coco for example, but is pretty much no nonsense the whole game. Crash looks more rigid and humanoid, not a character that can do squash and stretch as well which is what they wanted him to do, characters like Tawna and N Gin look more realistic. A lot of this leans into overhauls....just because, and a super inconsistent direction. Toys For Bob wanted to have their cake and eat it too, having a super distinctive version of Crash but still wanting to play their's off as more 'loyal' than previous takes.

I think the new design just tries too hard to be different. But neither modern design really appeals to me. NST Crash is technically faithful in its redesign, but the attitude and style of Crash got nerfed in translation. He just looks a lot more bland and stiff in motion in the remakes to me. So it looks like Crash, but it doesn't feel like Crash. TFB Crash has a much more clear attitude and style along with better animation. But not in a particularly faithful way. So it also only feels like Crash superficially. Even if it's more interesting to look at. Both designs are ultimately lacking attention to detail for different reasons. So I honestly can't say I have a preference between them. I can say that I'm definitely over creators trying too hard to modernize classic series and missing the point. But unfortunately, I think Crash is one of those series stuck in an endless cycle of overconfident devs trying to reinvent the wheel.

Hey, I agree with alot of the points in this video. No one asked for the redesign, and it just makes him look uncanny. While many people would diss nostalgia as a bad argument, the fact is that many crash fans are the same people that crew up with old crash, and are obviously used to and expecting the old crash. Of course they should revamp his model to make it modern and high resolution, but to change it in such an unasked way is confusing to me. Many people defend the design, but I feel it's just because the design is modern, not because the design is good. I think a good way to illustrate this point is the mod that you showcased in your other video, showing a fan mod for crash that replaces the current one. It's clean, sleek, and improved for a modern era. At the same time, it follows his original design, and honestly just looks better to me.
Even though I don't like it as much now, I won't go as far as to say that I hate it. If anything, I'm ok with it. (Still more faithful than what we got in Crash of The titans & mind over Mutant but still.)

You should change the title to, "why you a singular person hates the *new* modern crash banidcoot". There's a lot of other characters that have more radical changes to their design but the difference are really minute when concerning crash. besides his outfit there's virtually no difference to the character's design from your screen shots it looks more like differences in the characters "expression" and how the animator exaggerate the characters features. Coco hasn't had a consistent design and besides coomers people arent really happy with the Tawna character in C4. If there's anything to really complain about I would say it would be the censoring of violence regarding the series. It's a game where a furry mascot runs through a perilous obstacle courses and gets blown up or squashed by bolders or torn apart by deranged mutated creatures. besides the softness of the remakes of both spyro and crash I can't really say I hate the games, they been aesthetically pleasing chill games with nice updated graphics and updated music. The softness just comes with the brand ToysforBob, wanna have a better crash, there's tons of free 3D modeling software and the premiere AAA software is only 40 bucks a month and there's plenty of videos to help you learn how to make your own characters.
The difference is that the other games didnt tried to be so grand and important (you know, after 20 years the sequel of the Og trilogy). My issue is that there wasn't a reasonably good purpose for changing the designs, it ultimately came down to: "well the n-sane designs don't look good in unreal engine and so we decided to put our own spin on the character!"
Crash4’s art style and character design feel like it’s more targeted to kids below 13. And I believe the majority of Crash’s current players are kids/teenagers, that’s why you find a lot of people online preferring this design over the OG/Nsane’s design.
Many 90s ppl have moved on from gaming or they simply don’t care that much ‘bout the details like some of us (I’m one of those who care).
I believe TFB is not going to change their designs in the future. But maybe if another dev team worked on the next title we get a better design that is faithful to Naughty Dog’s 🤷🏻♂️.

Hey! Just watched the video, and I'd like to remain as unbiased as possible while writing this and I will not be giving my opinion on the design. "Nostalgia" is never a good argument, it feels desperate. "It's bad because I used to like the old design", people can have opinions yes, and you're perfectly allowed to dislike it. I do want to ask, why do you think there was "no effort put in"? If they changed the design (which is why you hate it) then how would little to no effort get put into it? It doesn't matter if the design for anything is bad, if it got changed then effort must have been put into it, in fact, I think what would be classified as "no effort" is if they just ported the old model, good or bad. As far as Spyro's design goes in comparison to Crash's, the thing with the modern Spyro design is, that design was introduced for the remakes. I guarantee if the Crash 4 design was used for the remakes you wouldn't mind it. Same way as if Spyro had a realistic artstyle for the remakes and then a new game came out which then had a cartoony art style. I think saying "Everyone hates the design" in the title is just clickbait and desperate. One last thing, If (As you've said in other comments) that the only thing that needs changing is the color palette, mouth, (I think there's more but I think either the comments aren't showing up or people deleted their comments) then why is this Crash design so "Atrocious" that you needed to get a mod for it? I can agree I was biased when talking about it. I’m just a bit upset with how they made it too much like a cartoon. I dislike the mouth, the wide shoulders, the pink ears, and the brown nose. They made a semi realistic cartoonish character for Crash. It’s when I look at it compared to what I remember it just makes me upset, thus the angry little rant I gave with this video. Especially with the new game coming out. Yeah I sort of click sites the video slightly, but I wanted my opinion out there and wanted to show that there’s an entire petition for it. Thanks for the criticism. I always like feedback on my videos. I’ll keep everything you said in mind for future crash rant videos if I do any more after this.

Honestly I loved and still love everything about Crash 4 artstyle. I think every single character looks better than ever maaaybe except for N.Brio. Cartoonish style is what original trilogy always wanted to imitate but couldn't because it was PS1. Remake made it look realistic just to show as much "graphic update" as possible. I think the biggest issue that Toys For Bob kinda set themselves up for was making their take THE DIRECT SEQUEL TO THE NAUGHTY DOG GAMES. I can accept the good points of Titans Crash for all its liberties because that is clearly treated as Radical Entertainment's own version of the character, not the ideal evolution of what he's SUPPOSED to be. Same deal with all the Spyro redesigns, would have been fine for their own spin off, but not for REMAKES OF THE ORIGINAL GAMES. i just get a whole unpleasant "We made these guys BETTER" vibe with Toys For Bob that I didn't with the other developers.
Otherwise, for me, Crash 4 Crash is....okay I guess. It works as Toys For Bob's version of the character, but I don't really like how they made him more humanoid and stiff. The big shoulders, the chisled mussle, the pushed up nose and the smaller feet. He works better as this floppy cartoon animal to me. I think characterisation doesn't really help either, Crash 4 Crash is pretty much a bumbling loser among loads of no nonsense competent characters. There's definitely loads of 'dumb Crash' takes, but there always felt like this lingering slyness to him that gave him a bit of an edge Crash 4 lacks, like you couldn't turn your back on him. He was never just 'Coco's dumbass sidekick' anyway, the two always felt like chaotic equals.

Dude, nostalgia isn’t an argument. For example, I grew up with Atari and Namco plug-n-play games and I have a huge amount of nostalgia for them. But I can set my nostalgia aside and agree those games aren’t the peak of gaming gameplay and graphics-wise. This whole “it isn’t what I grew up with so it’s bad” argument is ridiculous.

I get that ya don’t like the design but one of the reasons they changed it is because after the original trilogy there were many different and toys for Bob wanted to continue that trend, but also combine some of the best aspects of those designs like him, keeping his gloves and shoes, but also adding new features like like fur textures and more animal like teeth. It still looks like Crash but like I said a different interpretation. Also, this is a bit of a nitpick but your point of Spyro having a perfect design kinda falls a little flat, cuz that was for a remake, it was for the sake of nostalgia, I’m sure when they make Spyro 4, whenever that may be they will redesign him. Also it’s been over two years at this point even if the do change Crash’s design to look closer the old design he would look out of place next to everyone else in the game.
It’s not just crash that needs a redesign but the whole crew of characters. They nailed the N. Gin design, but characters like brio, cortex, Crash, coco, tawna, and even N. Tropy, have the less “grotesque”design that made Crash and his friends stand out among characters like Mario and Sonic. Sure they grabbed all these designs from all the different games but making it a direct sequel to warped makes it fall flat imo. I’m unsure if they will change the Spyro design or not but if they don’t and keep it, all the more reason to be upset about Crash and his friends design change.

The closest we have is a mod on PC which changes Crash, Coco, Tawna and the boxes model to the PS1 originals. But to be honest i would rather wait and play an hypotetical PS1 Crash 4 demake than this...

I don’t like the N. Sane model either, a mix between N. Sane and crash 4 could be nice if they kept some key aspects of what makes Crash look like Crash. For example the peachy mouth, the black nose. I liked those better than the version we have right now same thing for the ears. I grew up with 90’s Crash Bandicoot. The second game I played for hundreds of hours. That’s why I can’t look at this modern Crash the same way I am able to look at “old” Crash. I love Crash Bandicoot since it was the first game I ever played. Idk man the new design just bothers me more than N. Sane. And honestly I would prefer Treyarch creating Crash since they have first hand experience with it.

I will never understand the people who judge every new Crash game based on the art style/character designs alone. You guys know that how a video game character looks isn't as important as how they control, right?

I'm not very big into Crash's old character design (or the series's general art style & character designs at that point) from CB1 to TWoC. It was only from CNK (and to a extent Twinsanity) that he became good to look at artistically.
And yes, i'm saying this as someone who grew with the PS1 games.
The thing is, even with Titans, the changes at least FIT what they were going for, Titans was SUPPOSED to be a big overhaul with loads of creative liberties, the developers' own self contained version of Crash. Most of the redesigns also fit what they wanted to do with the characters as well (Crash looks more like an animal because he ACTS like an animal, Coco is goofier because she has a goofier personality, Aku Aku being redesigned into a wakeboard/shield type sillouette is because he IS those things throughout gameplay). It was a weird direction but at least one that fit their intent.
Crash 4 on the other hand not only wants to be this direct sequel and successor to the Naughty Dog games in spite of all its liberties, but most of the redesigns feel....superfluous or even unfitting. Coco is even goofier looking than Titans Coco for example, but is pretty much no nonsense the whole game. Crash looks more rigid and humanoid, not a character that can do squash and stretch as well which is what they wanted him to do, characters like Tawna and N Gin look more realistic. A lot of this leans into overhauls....just because, and a super inconsistent direction. Toys For Bob wanted to have their cake and eat it too, having a super distinctive version of Crash but still wanting to play their's off as more 'loyal' than previous takes.

It’s just not crash imo, and it’s not just him it’s all the characters. Their designs have been too “Cartoonized”. There was literally an animation made for crash bandicoot back in the day where they used the same colors as the original Crash. It was meant to be that way after his design was already made and published, otherwise why would naughty dog change it? It’s an icon for Pete’s sake. It’s like trying to change the design of sonic into a more realistic hedgehog. See what I’m getting at?

I think the new design just tries too hard to be different. But neither modern design really appeals to me.
NST Crash is technically faithful in its redesign, but the attitude and style of Crash got nerfed in translation. He just looks a lot more bland and stiff in motion in the remakes to me. So it looks like Crash, but it doesn't feel like Crash.
TFB Crash has a much more clear attitude and style along with better animation. But not in a particularly faithful way. So it also only feels like Crash superficially. Even if it's more interesting to look at.
Both designs are ultimately lacking attention to detail for different reasons. So I honestly can't say I have a preference between them.
I can say that I'm definitely over creators trying too hard to modernize classic series and missing the point. But unfortunately, I think Crash is one of those series stuck in an endless cycle of overconfident devs trying to reinvent the wheel.

Hey, I agree with alot of the points in this video. No one asked for the redesign, and it just makes him look uncanny.
While many people would diss nostalgia as a bad argument, the fact is that many crash fans are the same people that crew up with old crash, and are obviously used to and expecting the old crash. Of course they should revamp his model to make it modern and high resolution, but to change it in such an unasked way is confusing to me.
Many people defend the design, but I feel it's just because the design is modern, not because the design is good. I think a good way to illustrate this point is the mod that you showcased in your other video, showing a fan mod for crash that replaces the current one. It's clean, sleek, and improved for a modern era. At the same time, it follows his original design, and honestly just looks better to me.

Anyways, the fact that people are still talking about this sinking franchise baffles me. I uses to be one of the biggest Crash fans, but ever since Activision took over we've gotten nothing but garbage. N sane trilogy, trash. Nitro Fueled, nostalgia bait that has no care put into it. Crash 4, decent enough game but it took nothing from the past games that could have been re used. They litteraly just mixed the most random themes together and were like HERE IS THE GAME
You should change the title to, "why you a singular person hates the *new* modern crash banidcoot". There's a lot of other characters that have more radical changes to their design but the difference are really minute when concerning crash. besides his outfit there's virtually no difference to the character's design from your screen shots it looks more like differences in the characters "expression" and how the animator exaggerate the characters features. Coco hasn't had a consistent design and besides coomers people arent really happy with the Tawna character in C4.
If there's anything to really complain about I would say it would be the censoring of violence regarding the series. It's a game where a furry mascot runs through a perilous obstacle courses and gets blown up or squashed by bolders or torn apart by deranged mutated creatures. besides the softness of the remakes of both spyro and crash I can't really say I hate the games, they been aesthetically pleasing chill games with nice updated graphics and updated music. The softness just comes with the brand ToysforBob, wanna have a better crash, there's tons of free 3D modeling software and the premiere AAA software is only 40 bucks a month and there's plenty of videos to help you learn how to make your own characters.
The difference is that the other games didnt tried to be so grand and important (you know, after 20 years the sequel of the Og trilogy). Even though i dont like some of the redesigns of the PS2 era i dont mind most of them due to its context, contrary to Crash 4 (i would also argue that some of this designs are better for resembling more to the OG, especially CNK, but thats just me)
